I was watching GiraffeNeckMarc's stream, most of the chat spotted it. The Astros hitters looked to me like they did in the Yu Darvish games, so I thought it was plausible
Exactly, he's got nasty stuff but it's hard to be a starter in this league with only 2 pitches. That's why guys like Greinke have been good for so long, five pitches that he'll throw at anytime.
How can the rays pitching coach not pick up on Astros not even moving an inch on some of the pitches? I would of thought that there is definitely something going on.
The Rays were likely not aware what Glasnow was doing to tip the pitches. The Rays did change to multiple signs from the catcher even with no guys on base which indicates they were suspicious. Otherwise they may not have known what to tell Glasnow to stop doing.
It was also suspicious that Springer very late check-swing fouled the first pitch of the game. A hitter is not going to be that late even on 98 if he is trying to ambush the first pitch. Like swinging on 3-0, you are not going to be that late in that situation. In retrospect, Springer likely misread the key and was crossed up. Springer roped that FB two pitches later, which looked like an unbelievably quick adjustment at the time.
Why pitchers sometimes hold their glove in a different position on different pitches has a lot to do with the way you grip a breaking ball as opposed to a fast ball. Its best to hold your glove according to you gripping a breaking ball over a fastball. Most of the time it takes a bit more effort to grip the ball for a breaking ball than it is for a fastball.
Imagine if you had a plan to tip your pitches at the start of the game, and then when the hitters clue in on it, you start to reverse how you tip them so they would get confused. Could be a valid game plan.
@@Kaibat1205 Yeah it's a good idea, but trying to repeat the same mechanics every time is important. Scherzer is really good at this, you watch an overlay of his fastball and changeup and they look exactly the same.
Guys, this is no secret. In Ben Reiter's Astroball both Beltrán and Altuve watch videos looking for pitching idiosyncrasies - tipping in other words. This is probably how they got to Yu Darwish in the 2017 WS.
Correa had a swing and miss, only because he wanted the curve and didn't get it after two fastball strikes. Only pointing out that you said none, but there was at least the one.
The astros are the best in the league with studying film and they're saying the astros didn't do anything? Lmao do you watch baseball? They did the exact same thing to darvish in 2017 because it was obvious and it was also obvious here. Can you imagine how many times they've done it to other teams that aren't that obvious

It's the pitchers job to keep the hitters guessing what he's gonna throw. This is a clear cut example of a pitcher not doing his job. All teams are allowed to watch video from the opposing team, it's part of the scouting report. So it's not fishy if all teams are allowed to do it.
Glasnow made the mistake by not changing his pitching style between games 1 and 5. He kept it the same. Thus the astros knew what was coming afyer watching video of him. it's glasnows fault
Analysis is correct but you guys are exaggerating how much he was tipping. neck level for a fastball and below the logo for a curve? The view from home plate versus outfield is not going to be that far off. Take a look at the footage from game 5. The head coach of the Ray said it best in the post-game "tipping or no tipping the Astros still had to connect and hit the ball into play". I see this as another way networks are trying to steal the win from the Astros. If the Dodgers or Yankee's would have been smart enough to pick up on thisno analysis would have ever been spoke of, they would just be saying how great the Yankees or Dodgers or fill in the blank batting is.
Have you looked at the box score? Without him tipping his pitches in the 1st inning, it'd be a 2-1 game, and the momentum wouldn't have been in the Astros' favor. Plus Tampa Bay could've kept Glasnow in for more than 8 batters and loaded up only their best bullpen arms instead of having to use some of their less effective pitchers, which would likely make it a 1-1 game. Nobody's saying the Astros didn't win, but unless Gerrit Cole was pitching they certainly didn't dominate the Rays. Verlander and Greinke both got lit up. Game 5 really could've gone either way. The Astros are not an invincible juggernaut and the Rays had a great team this year.
Funny how MLB and national media only seem to run with these narratives when the Astros are about to play NY or Boston. Hey MLB Network and Fox...the Cardinals SCORED 10 RUNS IN THE FIRST INNING in Game 5. What, no breakdown about how Foltynewicz was tipping his pitches or Cards were stealing signs? Hmm. Wonder why...
... which is a lot easier to do when you know what’s coming. hitting in the big leagues is just as much about “guessing” as it is about making contact.
Scandal?? Please! Seems scouts for ALL teams look for the same things: tendencies. Altuve not a good high fastball hitter?? Did the Rays still only score 1 run??
Altuve isn't that good of a high ball hitter? He already hit a high fastball HR off Glasnow in Game 1!! What a bunch of bullshit MLB. Jesus you couldnt make your preference for the Jankees more obvious, could you?
嗯哼大王 except that it’s not. It’s the analytics/information era in baseball and all teams have access to tapes to prepare for each and every game whether it be regular season or post season. If a pitcher gives away his pitches himself with a visible change in his stance/body then it’s fair game. A good team will take notice. So go take your cheat talk somewhere else!
@@garishqualm344 it's true though. A pitchers job is to keep your pitch selection a secret and to get outs anyway you can. If a pitcher has a bad day on the mound it's because they failed to do their job that day. Same goes for a hitter.
The RightStuff - how can you say the game was decided on this when the rays only scored 1 run? Cole was almost un-hittable. They wouldn’t have won either way.
@@alexoh4699 all three of y'all are fucking stupid he said not that good of a high ball hitter at 98 mph the same altuve who went yard on him the exact same pitch in the first game maybe even faster man people don't do any research they just talk to fucking talk just like your stupid ass and the other two
