I actually have both. My basher is mmx8s/800kv and xlx2/1100kv speed runner. The xlx2 isnt necessary ubless youre really trying to push that too speed to its linits. The mmx8s is plenty powerful enough
Sounds like you already made up your mind lol I'm guessing the real issue is finding a XLX2 1100kv combo that's available for sale. That was my issue. Ended up buying the XLX2 800kv combo and slapped on a TP motor for now (Y wound). Saving the 800kv as a spare motor. Wish I could get my hands on a 1100kv Castle motor with the 8 gauge wire and 8mm connectors.
Castle will claim one thing but tell you something different when it comes to their products and their claims. On the xlx2, they claim they tested and the xlx2 amps were 400 to over 500 amps. They sell the xlx2/1100kv combo but will tell you that anything over 1000kv and the xlx2 amps are starting to get too high. Case in point, I have the xlx2 connected to a leopard 58113 870kv motor. According to the logs, the highest amp reading was 394 (1st run) and the 2nd run was 346 amps and that's when the negative post came off the esc ( They say it melted, it looked to me like it just broke. I saw no melted brass) I only had the xlx2 two days before this happened. They are going to warranty it, but said it was drawing too many amps and don't go over a 1000kv motor. When I get the xlx2 back, it'll be put away and saved as a spare, I'll be using the r-snake flier 400a 3-16s esc which will be in my hands on Dec 6th. Chances of me ever buying anything castle again is none to less than none. They claim one thing but tell you something different. Edit: Turns out the flier isn't all that either. Never did get it to work correctly. So I put the 2nd xlx2 in and about 3 weeks ago ( on or about 4/9/22) the same thing happened again to the xlx2 so it's at castle now for warranty work again. I don't jump my dbxl-e 2.0, speed runs only and I keep a close eye on temps and look at the logs after I get done running for the day. Nothing in the logs indicate any over heating or over amperage.
Watching it after a year, what did you finally end up doing man??!! I’m looking to do the same 1100kv setup in Outcast 8s exb with xlx2 but and I see 800kv mmx8s for a $350 looks like a deal for me!! What do you think of hobbywing 1100kv with max5/max6 setup as well! Thanks in advance!!
I bought the mmx8s & 800kv combo for mine to hold me over until the xlx2 & 1100kv combo gets some of the bugs worked out. But only ran truck 1 time & had to send esc back to castle. Great system when it worked. Do plan to get xlx2 & 1100kv combo & have both.
Just wondering...what state do you live in? Btw your xmaxx sounds great! I'm building mine. Just waiting for the esc. Already got my 800kv in the truck.
I was somewhat worried about interference with the 1100kv motor in the arrma 8s vehicles, since the motor doesn't need to be geared nearly as high, it'll be closer to the steering rack. I'm not sure if the ass end of the can would interfere with it. I thought I've watched a video of someone having that issue, I can't find it now though.
Castle 2028 motor with Hobbywing Max 5 ESC. Reliabiliy of Hobbwing esc with better power longer lasting Castle motor. Pulls Xmaxx easily even with heavy Badlands tires and heavy Integy suspension
I put the Hobbywing Max 5 with their 1100 kv and put the wfo 1.5 mod gears in mine. Bro!! It’s so freaking fast! I did 35/25 gears and it’s a blast to drive. I will say I have broken it more at the skate park w the extra weight. I broke the hub carrier once and the actual chasis when I landed bad on the concrete. I started spraying the plastic w/MOX 904 Nano after that so it would soften the plastic parts enough it wouldn’t snap so easily. I also dropped down to the Venom 7000 50c battery when I do the skate park again to drop weight. I use the Venom 9000 50c otherwise as it lasts forever!! I also added a G-Force fan from JR and it keeps the motor cold as a cucumber!!
Sounds freakin amazing dude! I have much stiffer springs in mine and thicker shock oil because I was jumping mine a ton and it seems to really help out with this bigger motor.
I would leave that set up in the max sir 💪🏽🇬🇧👍🏽 Just a quick one I shortened my tp motor wires and had to send it way to be soldered professionally I think they solder dip the ends to help solder The max runs great 👍🏽 I’m going to only run castle motors with xlx2 just to be safe
Old video and you probably have done what you want at this point. Personally i would drop a tooth on the pinion or turn down the timing on the esc. The other option would be an upgraded fan.
Buy a better soldering iron. Lol. I taped 2 60watt irons together and bent the tips so they almost touch to get enough heat to solder 8mm bullets onto 8 gage wire
This issue has been resolved. New batch out now in fact - date on throttle wire is 3/21. I would feel the setup - get the XLX2 / 800kv combo - I run that in my DBXLE and am stunned at the power ... my logs showing 580A. The combo is 100% 8AWG wires. Watching your Xmxx in action though - you can leave it be and be okay - looks like it runs great! XLX2 is a beast and it simply REFUSES to get hot. Why not just sell the 8sMamba for 150$ and spend the 100$ and just plug in the 8awg wires you have already???
I’d have to solder back on the 8 gauge wire, but anyways this is what I did. Reused the mmx8s in a limitless. Am selling the motor, and bought an XLX2 with the 800kv - it’s awesome!
Other than the fire issue, I heard that the xlx 2 has a problem running 8s. I have the dbxl-e 2.0 and in it current state, it weighs 37lbs. I have the max 5 esc and leopard 58113 870kv v2 motor. The problem I'm having now is it seems to be cutting power before anything gets hot. I actually put a center locker in and all hesitation went away and no loss of power but, bent both rear axle shafts on the 1st run, replaced and on the 2nd run, took out both the front and rear diffs. I put the original center diff back in and now I have the same problem as before, losing power and it cutting out. I'd like to try the xlx2 but with the issues it has and my brothers experience with castle, I just don't trust castle enough for me to spend $230+ and it not be usable.
I would watch some more videos on the xlx2, many guys are running them in larger vehicles like that. Just make sure you’re soldering everything correctly and using the appropriate gearing. If you’re stripping diffs and bending shafts, you definitely have enough power.
@@GoKaioken Yea the bent axles and broke diffs happened with the locker installed. It is no longer installed. If I get the xlx2, I'll have a hobby shop solder for me and actually resolder the battery connections.
I'd keep it. I mean you don't need the upgrade, you want it. I'm not trying to be a dick, hell I've been there plenty. In the end do whatever makes you happy its your cash
@@GoKaioken I started with 33/ 50 to be conservative as I feared that my esc was gonna explode. Which it did but castle replaced it. So far temps have been pretty low. Have yet to break 130 but have been slightly hesitant to kill a pack at full throttle ya know. It's crazy powerful. Went to do a backflip off the tree out front of my house and it did three 🤣. Turns my stock tires into pizza cutters whenever I give it full throttle.
@@dubstepismtlife Hi! Dang I am confused I get my in 2weeks in. On the 1100kv can you still used the 6700 batteries Traxxas for your xmaxx or should I go with the 800 kv. Castle motor. I really dent want have to get a new batterys and a new charger right away.
@@michaelmclemore488 the xlx2 pulls way more amps then your battery conectors can handle. So I would be very cautious using the xlx2 with traxxas plugs. They could melt together and cause a problem
Assume not a speed run car and you can gear the motor to accommodate to the slightly lower rpm at 800kv vs 1100kv at same volts. Save your money on the motor. The ESC again not a speed run car and they are both 8s, you don't need the higher amps, save your $ again. You are not going to see any performance increase on the switch and OH by the way!
@@GoKaioken Your welcome and spend that money on an Infraction for your rack or a Summit which for a crawler you will like being a hybrid.
