The worst myth that most people believe is thinking they don't fall under severe driving conditions. Changing their oil after to many miles. What is the most common myth you know of?
Great video. I have a 98' mustang gt I drive weekends mostly or short drives to grocery store. It is a 25 year old car. Recently had smoke cause by too much blow by in 1 cylinder. I fixed the problem using stp oil additive along with mobile 1 synthetic 5w20. I changed the pcv valve as it was stuck, causing a little sludge. What oil do you recommend I do my next oil change. Thank you
Change your oil according to your owners manual & the brand of oil becomes a moot point! I’ve used Walmart’s Super Tech oil on several of my vehicles over the years & changed my oil & filter regularly & I’ve never had an oil related issue with any of my vehicles! If you have a certain brand that gives you peace of mind & let’s you sleep at night then I say the extra buck or 2 per quart is worth it!
Walmarts “super tech” brand is a blend of MOBIL 1 and pennzoil . It’s actually super good. Found this out from a tech head @ corporate so rest assured.
Personally I think mobil 1 is way overrated and as a pennzoil user, I have to say I think Castrol edge is going to capture the market based on my testing the improvements are dramatic...it's outstanding oil and I'm switching all my vehicles to it.
I've taken a liking to Castrol Edge. Currently using Castrol Edge EP. I have a Ford EcoBoost engine and Ford seems to really back Castrol. Some of the European spec Ecoboost engines were developed with Castrol to develope a specific oil that met Ford and European conservation specs. One in particular was the 1.0L EcoBoost. In other countries where Ford does not market Motorcraft products the premium motor oil from the dealership is Castrol Magnatec with Ford logo right on the container. Also the exotic Ford GT comes factory fill with Castol Edge supercar formulation oil. I believe the Shelby Mustang does also. I used to Mobil1 and switched Castrol Edge after learning this. Also the Castol Edge seems to be a bit lower in price. I recently changed oilin past couple of weeks. I went with OW-20 over the preferred 5W-20 by Ford. I'm good for the worst winter weather I can possibly encounter in Pennsylvania.
After 35 years I ditched castrol in the cars, after the 3rd name change for the full synthetic, the "magnetec" they tried for a bit, im done. Too much flashy marketing going on, just too schetchy and desperate. Parts master brand i switched to from the autoparts store is made by valvoline and better priced and just says what it is on the jug, bullshit free.
i've tried many brands on my '13 accord lx that burns oil and i've noticed that the 0w20 high mileage castrol edge burns less then the rest of oils been using it ever since
Same on a old 2011 honda crv exl with the k24 vtec engine known to burn oil. Once i switched to castrol edge high mileage, it started burning considerably less oil
If you really want to know how an oil is performing , run your oil in an air cooled engine like a harley,, HD swore up and down their oil was mobil1, i had HD oil go to 200+ degrees in 105° temps and damn near 0psi pressure, i swapped to Mobil1 and never ran above165° temp and never below 10psi, the reason this happens is because of friction reduction, less friction equals less heat, you can do this same test with castrol, on a foot note recently i did this test again between amsoil and mobil1 both on a built stage5 tc88, results, mobil1 beat amsoil...just my two cents , but that how you realy tell the difference
But isnt there pennzoil ultra? I heard that holds up better than platinum from a friend back in 2016 in his 300 c. I don't like pennzoil from using the 10w-30 from a oil testing friend of a friend to my friend. He also said "doesn't matter whether you choose synthetic or regular pennzoil. Your just paying more for synthetic"
I think it depends on your vehicle I have noticed my vehicle if it runs the highest end extended performance Mobil 1 it still burns a little but if I run Castrol Edge Extended Performance the oil will last until the next oil change
Are you related to Scotty Kilmer? I have a 2014 VW Jetta GLI with 204K miles. I bought it used at 53K miles and have ALWAYS used either original Liqui Moly 5W-40 (blue bottle) and then converted to Liqui Moly Molygen 5W-40 (green bottle). My car burns less oil than the Castrol brand. And I change it religiously every 5K miles.
Hey nates now I got my answer that I asked can I use 0w/40 insteaad of 5w/30 now I will try and and I will constantly keep an eye on oil level and if any oil leakage occures or not
Used 5W-30 High mileage full synthetic in my 1999 4 Runner. Got up to 300k before I sold it. Dad and I only ran Castrol with Fram oil filters. No issues. Now, I use Toyota filters or K and N.
Hey nate I've been using mobile 1 full synthetic 5w-30, also the high mileage formula and the extended performance formula and the high mileage extended performance formula all 5w-30 4 different formulas and I've noticed that some formulas leave more oil in my 3 ounce jtl catchcan so my next oil change i will try the extended performance 5w-30 and see what happens after 1500 miles
A pre existing leak is partially true. When a car runs on conventional oil all its life, sludge will accumulate and protect a dry gasket from leaking. Once you use synthetic oil, it washes all the sludge and gaskets starts leaking, not because there was a leak, but because the leak was prevented by sludge. Synthetic oil just came and exposed an existing problem, but it’s possible there was never a leak.
Big Question : I have a 2018 Santa Fe Sport , 34,000 kilometres and when the car is at operating temperature , I can smell coolant from outside the car ? I have been to 3 dealerships they said there are No Leaks .
The car is possibly burning coolant. I would be very worried because my cousin has a 2014 Sante fe and the engine ceased because Hyundai decided to cheap out on they’re critical internal engine parts which causes a build up of dirt/debris on the top of the engine. It ceased the motor. In the end after some arguments with the dealer, he said there was a recall on cars under warranty and luckily my cousin had 2 months left in his warranty and got a brand new engine put in his Hyundai. Hyundai also burn oil in many cases because of the poor design and cheap engine parts. If I were you I would think of a genius story and get your engine replaced asap. Talk to your mechanic before hand so you have a good story to make up and get that engine changed along with any recalls it may have. Good luck and stay away from Hyundai.
Nate, What's your thoughts on Ravenol oil, made in Germany? I haven't seen much testing from other people on RU-vid . I'm interested in maybe getting front, rear diff and transfer fluids from this company since the dealership is way overpriced for the fluids on our 4runner. What do you think about the company Ravenol and there products? Thanks Nate for your videos!!
Using Castrol Edge since the beginning of TDIs in Europe for more than 25 years. I wouldn't know how other oils perform because I've never used anything else. Mann or Mahle filters. Never a problem, no burning, no smoke. I still drive my 1.9 Passat b5.5 130hp.
I understand advances in engine construction and chemistry...but are we sure that a 0W20 will give me maximum protection ? ...especially in hot Summer months or in sports engines ?
These very thin new oils are for recent model Cars..cause those Cars have oil pumps with variable displacement volume....putting a 0w20 in a car that calls for 10w30 won't work
Modern engines have tighter tolerances which calls for a thinner oil. The modern synthetic oils have better properties/modifiers to ensure their viscosity doesn't change drastically. The only time I see people going against factory spec is when they track their cars at high loads and rpm's.
Thanks, i have elantra 2013 MD with 180k klm, which oil i should use, for your information i live in south algeria when temperature in winter 0°C and in the summer is + 50°C, and thanks for replying
HELP, i have an A45 AMG, last year it was serviced with Mobil1 as recommended by Mercedes, today my indie specialist has used CASTROL oil, it is 0W-40 as mobil, but is castrol SAFE? no idea what im doing when it comes to oil qualities and is it safe if the dipstick reads MAX when i checked it after driving out the garage??
I use Castrol Edge 5w30 LL oil for my sonata, an American import 24 engine, but I noticed a rough sound at the beginning of the operation, is it suitable for it or not?
I tried all the brands at this weight of motor oil they're all the same full synthetic is full synthetic they all basically have the same ingredients Diet Coke Diet Pepsi comparison
Roky nije da ga seres ali ulje 10W40 bolje ocisti i podmazuje motor nego 0W20 zasto zator je su ceatice vecee bolje pjeskare necistoce unutar motora bitmo je da se mjenjaju unutar 10 000Km
I doubt these so called test useful, meaningful. The engine oil is pumped when the car started, the engine last the same no matter what brand if you do 5000km oil change, the same viscosity on oil cap. So, cheap oil is good, you can change faster.
I tought we were talking about castrol tatNium? And you ended with suoer tech Mr. Nate..you always do some stunt lije that to draw people inn ... that dissapoint! Dont exagerate!
@@NATESINTERACTIVEAUTO I use I try my trailblazer has 432909 miles my buick encore 1.4 has 250000 use a pulsator boss filter change everything 10,000 miles no leaks runs strong all mobil1 fully syncretic I'll is good for 1000 hours at temps under 500 °f so yes I recommend it and so does GM thanks for the video
I’m currently running Ultralub 5w30 full synthetic. After 7K miles the oil is still has tons of life left in it based on visual inspection. In the past Mobil 1, Cam2 & Supertech synthetics were done at this point as my truck falls under the severe use catagory. Costs a bit more but if it lasts longer that’s fine with me. I guess the myth here is that many think that Mobil 1 is the best. I don’t think it is. Just popular. It doesn’t even meet the Chrysler ms-6395 specification!
NAH. There are several oils that test better. Mobil 1 is the most POPULAR, but it tests poorly. Amsoil tests best, but it is super-expensive and NOT readily available. Pennzoil Ultra Platinum performed very well (2nd place to Amsoil), and that's what the famous 95 MERC gets now -- Pennzoil Ultra Platinum, 5W-20; Bosch Premium Oil Filter # 3410; and a FILTERMAG # SS365PR Magnet Kit.
