Mobile Home Floors Repaired. Mobile Home Sub Floor Repair. 

Thanks for all your great videos regarding repairs to manufactured homes. Last week I closed on my first home... a double wide. It needs alot of work, most of which I will be attempting to do myself to keep cost down. I will be replacing a lot of bad floors, this vid is really going to help guide me through the process.

Thanks so much for taking the time to film this! I am a somewhat new owner of a handyman special mobile home. It has good bones, just needs some big and small fixes kinda thing. I'm kinda unenlightened as to how to do a lot of DIY repairs and this showed so much. It is not that I don't know how to do this stuff, but in fact, it is just how to do it right once and for all. Will be watching all I can find to educate myself in proper repairs, as I wish this to be a long term home for our oddball family.

I recently was gifted a 1970's single wide mobile home that has several areas where the floor is too soft to step on. The two main areas are around the toilet in the bathroom which caused the toilet and flooring about a foot around it to be sunken down, and there is a 4 ft long soft spot in the kitchen where the previous owner literally stepped on a weak spot and her foot went through the subfloor up to her knee and I believe tore the black fabric material underneath. Would the material need to be repaired or replaced before I fix the subfloor? This is my first experience with a mobile home, so I have zero knowledge about how they're built or what materials are used. After watching over a dozen videos on mobile home repairs, your videos are HANDS DOWN the most helpful and informative. All the other videos left me with more questions than answers and made me feel like I'm in way over my head. But after watching your videos I honestly feel confident I will be able to fix the repairs the mobile home needs. Oh, one thing... The mobile home is in Arizona, and I took look underneath the mobile home it appears no one has been under there in decades. The entire area underneath is covered with poisonous spiders and bark scorpions. In the 20 seconds I looked I saw half a dozen brown recluse, more black widows than I cared to stay and count, scorpions crawling all over the ground, and as I scooting on my back out from underneath, a bark scorpion FELL ON MY FACE from the underbelly 🦂😳 which landed me in the ER after being stung 6 times.... So now I am deathly afraid of ever having to go back under there. Is it possible to redo the subfloor all from inside the house? And do you have any tips on how to kill a BUNCH of spiders underneath a mobile home? Lol. I've managed to eradicate most of the scorpions from the property, but I can't find anything that is effective on spiders. I imagine you must have come across a fair amount of creepy crawlys in all your years working on mobile homes, so I figured if anyone would know it would be you. 😁 Thank you for any advice you might have, and I am learning SO much from your videos! 💜👍🏻

That old gray water pipe is just an accident waiting to happen. It's not a matter of if it will burst it's a matter of when it will burst. I know mine came with that stuff first the fittings start breaking and soon after the pipe starts splitting. Best to replace it with PEX that stuff is awesome especially in cold weather it will stretch when it freezes and return to its original shape after it thaws. I really like the white flair-it fittings but now they're hard to get. Flair-It has others all of which are better than Sharkbite on Pex Sharkbite O rings tend to leak over time.

The camera work with go-pro attached to his head made it EXTREMELY difficult to watch. That said, it was worth watching for the good techniques demonstrated. Just DON'T watch it if you have been drinking or have vertigo! Skip to Part 2 of this renovation. MUCH better camera work and narrative by a different guy in the same organization.

Would like to see your recommendations for sub floors that are glued and stapled to the joists.

The vents are very easy to replace, they're just aluminum bent into a rectangle. Brakes are ( or at least should be) very common. I usually just replace them cause they are so poorly made and installed from the factory. And for Pete's sake, get a toe kick saw, the 1 1/2" cut from the walls just looks bad. Any pro who does this has the right tools for it.

I see that you left the rotted floor under the wall. You cut it flush with the jig saw and added 2x4 so the new floor can be screwed down. I get all that. My question is.... you dont have to remove the rotted floor under the wall? We are safe to leave it there, just make it flush? So we dont need to scrape out the rotted wood under the wall and tuck the new floor under the wall? Correct?

Question, what if the floor under the walls have been wet and are now crumbling when touched

This video surprised me. I need to redo a front room and the front bathroom in my mobile home. I just bought it a few months ago and the previous owners never cleaned or maintained the home, never adjusted it or anything... the bathroom has a bad soft spot that you can literally feel the studs on either side of it, the room has a bad spot right by the vent which is right in front of the door, that one is so bad that when I took 1 step on it I about fell through. I have zero knowledge of mobile homes, this is my first house and I figured it would make a nice learning experience. I can't help but notice the floor in this home featured in the video has another floor under the insulation, mine doesn't have that... is it supposed to? Like if I did fall through that soft spot I would be under the house and I don't know if that's right. I put plywood over it for safety as it's sagging and obviously super weak right now, but since I don't have a floor under my insulation do I need to install one first? It seems purposely built that way, without one, but it's scary to think it's only subfloor and some insulation between me and the ground under the home.

One of the things I don't miss about living in the south. 6:28 seconds into the video, I saw a giant palmetto bug crawl across the insulation of where the floor was ripped out. I don't miss those damned palmetto bugs for a minute. (Although, I'm up north now... and we have stink bugs that are equally as bad). Guess it's a trade-off.

Never saw a mobile home with plywood under, o ly vapor barrier, i do have a question if its ok to use osb board since its cheaper than plywood and what thickness should i use for the floor?

We have a six year old mobile home. Bought brand new. Apparently our back door leaks and we had no clue and now we have to replace the floor by the back door.

I attempted this on a mobile home and failed completely. All the old wood flooring was glued to the joists and it would have taken days to remove because the glue was stronger than the wood itself. So instead I cross lapped and glued a double layer of 1/2" plywood over the existing floor. Seems to work well and much less work.

What is your input on installing wood-like plank porcelain tile floor in a mobile home? I can’t find any reputable information if it would be a long term successful installation or if I should steer clear from doing so.

If I am going to replace the bathroom floor ( has bathtub, toilet, sink in vanity) and washer/dryer flooring (doubled), is it a good idea to pull all of the plumbing out or is it easier just to work around it? Doesn't look like it would be too big a deal to yank it out while the floor is being repaired. Thanks.

What does it cost these days to repair a subfloor? I need to do this, and I am worried I'm going to be taken for a ride. I don't dare do it myself, because my support system, my dad, has cancer and I don't want/ can't ask him to help.

Hi Drew. Is there a part 2? I'm having trouble getting my plywood sheets to level perfectly as we had to do a lot of blocking. We used levels but it is still a little uneven and wont be good when we lay tile.

Hey. Dude need expert advice asap if you dont mind. Im redoing a small room that has the heater that intrudes into the room with a corner about 33inches by 25inches. My problem is im working on floor but the corner portion is needing the joinst support but i cant physicaly reach the existing joist to add xtra support/joist to lay more flooring. Any tips or advice to avoid having to crawl underneath and avoid the headache of rolling in fiber glass and further unneccessary damage just to reach area of repair?

I don't know how much of a chore it would be,but if I were you i would get rid of the particle board all together, that is the cheapest stuff around. If your putting in hardwood floors, your going to be using a floor nailer which means you want to nail into something solid.To me particle is board is like nailing into a piece of paper.

This is the second video I've seen with these crappy particle board floors. I have never seen such material used in subfloors. Who on earth would think such material is a good idea for a subfloor? The stuff is basically glued together sawdust.

Those holes are not holes. They have been placed strategically in certain area for flow thru ventilation. They are merely ventilation assisted openings. ***************************************************************************** How to avoid these holes?? Do NOT buy a mobile home.

Yankees are funny when they see a roach. The very elite living in the South know roaches are somewhere hiding in their homes. That was small. Good Lord. Roaches are synonymous with the South. Just like Fire Ants in your yards and black viper snakes. I know. I lived in Bayou country and miss the beauty that came with this price tag.
