Fun fact: The person who made Brutal DOOM was being helped by the person who made hDOOM, and that person who made Brutal DOOM kicked the other guy out of the team, and claimed all the ideas as his. Something to do with the Revenant happened in the middle of that. And that is why when you play Brutal DOOM + hDOOM, you get massacred by a Revenant train.
@@jon2766 Yeah he made a good mod but in real life? he's an absolute dick...For instance, the instant he was given the Caco award for Brutal doom, anyone that said it needed more work or even critiqued it and pointed out flaws that could easily be fixed was attacked by HIM on forums personally. He's also put racial slurs in his own code, was thinking of using REAL GORE over sprites (like using a mans picture that had his skull split in half, showing all the grey matter and blood), has managed to be banned from nearly ALL major Doom site forums for breaking too many rules and finally to top it all off got REALLY pissed off and blamed ID software AND Bethesda for "stealing his work" when he found out that Doom 2016 had glory kills in it instead of being rational about it.
@@SirisInidite Surprisingly? Hdoomguy is a genuinely cool dude. Most of what he does still seems to be all smut, but it's some genuinely good spritework.
AWWWW, FUCK! You beat me to it! Can you imagine? "You better fuck like your little lives depend on it because it does." As they look at you with those puppy dog eyes, filled with fear, both male and female dogs in doggie style position. Then you put your foot on the dogs ass and in a serious tone saying, "What the fuck do you think your here to do?" and you start to step down frantically on his ass so he can ass fuck the female bitch with no regard for blood you see seeping out signifying a pierced membrane somewhere in the bitch. The female dog screams and whimpers in loud shrieks that resemble those of an animal caught and maimed in a trap, and the male dog goes from confused and scared to rough and forceful as he looses himself to his animal instincts, meanwhile you look on with wide open eyes, unblinking, and start to laugh maniacally as you destroy any sign of their heartwarming characteristics only to turn them in to soulless creatures operating in their basest instincts, and you laugh, and you laugh, and you laugh... ...ah shit, did I go to far?
Duke 3D have had mods like this for a decade and a half. As I'm sure Doom has. Effect/gore/weapon mods are hardly something new - people just didn't call them "brutal".
Mods I'd like to see because "why the fuck not?": Brutal Minecraft Brutal Skyrim Brutal Battlefront 2 Brutal Halo CE And last but not least Brutal Hello Kitty Island Adventure
+MartianManFromMars Well, for Skyrim there's "Enhanced Blood Textures," which not only makes the blood look cooler and more gory, but lets you determine how much there is. Plus, sometimes corpses twitch after death, and even you can ramp that up to the max to make it look like they're lowriders with hydraulics. Then you can combine that mod with a dismemberment mod (Deadly Mutilation) that... well, that's pretty self explanatory. But then again it'd just be cool to have a completely from scratch Brutal Skyrim with custom textures, animations and SFX.
MrYayayify I wanna see a Brutal Battlefront II or Force Unleashed. Imagine slicing a stormtrooper into cubes from halfway across the map with your lightsaber.
I just wanted to say thanks for all the videos, i've discovered your channel a few weeks ago and i'm now your biggest fan. Videos have perfect duration and most of the time i have the same tastes as you. So you're now my official go-to FPS reviewer. Keep up the great work!
+PR RADIOSTARS Serious Sam is brutal enough as it is - crack that madness up to 12 and there will be nothing but death. Hell the first level would be filled to the brim with Gnaars and Kleers.
Vanilla game may not take best advantage of this mod, but way I see it- it doesn't make things any worse, and makes parts better so why not? I hope they add ironsights and leaning, at least optionally.
I love this Mod Corner format, I hope to see you review the WW2 based total conversion mod Forgotten Hope 2 for Battlefield 2 someday, it is the most professionally done and extensive mod I've ever played plus it's still a lot of fun, has an awesome community around it and really deserves more attention IMO.
Definitely. It would be so fun to actually be able to kick someone back or down on their backs and finishing them off with a couple of shots, or curb stomping them to death. I’ve always wanted to have the ability to do what the HECU Marines can do (I’m sure everyone else does too, besides me), and it is to kick, I’m just so glad that it got implemented in the mod.
Just installed brutal half life, its pretty gud, but i love that they added the SAW from opposing force and tweaked the AI slightly, and those sound effects are amazing i havn't played half life in years , and the game is still as good as ever, great review as always gggman
+Gggmanlives WE DEMAND MOAR! Did you ever think about starting a community for hardcore FPS fans ? Like, host a server of SOF or something and all play together with the mighty ggmanlives
Ive already joined it. But most of oldschool fast FPS are not on steam :( Would be awesome to play a session of Soldiers of Fortune with other people here. Speeds in Australia are really that bad ?
A lot of the charm of Brutal Doom is in all the new pixel art. The ridiculous violence is fun in those types of games versus in a game like SoFII where it was just unpleasant.
I do hope that versions of this mod will be released for/work with opposing force and blue shift (especially opposing force). It looks like it will make the frustrating at times combat into something really fun.
Quake 1.5, it's basically brutal quake. You should check it out, it completely overhauls the weapons and adds plenty of new enemies. And even a couple of new weapons. But best of all... It's fucking brutal.
Blows my mind watching someone play half life as if it's Doom in terms of playing it fast paced. I typically play it like a survival horror. Slow and taking advantage of any situation. Like luring marines into Aliens and watching them Duke it out. Or get a couple guards and set up choke points or ambushes.
There is also the german version, which is pretty much the opposite. For example, human enemies do not die, but sit on the ground and shake their heads when shot.
I get your concerns and criticisms G.....but all of the footage you've shown looks fucking awesome. Loving this trend of "Brutal" mods, and I hope it continues.
Reloading is needed in Brutal Doom to make the game difficult enough. Brtual Doom enables headshots, which makes your damage go through the roof and as a result makes the game much easier too.
A gore mod seems like a very poor fit for Half Life in general, since the game thrives on storytelling over the actual gunplay (though the gunplay is quite sound.) There are games that I could see this kind of mod being great for though. Painkiller. Serious Sam. Blood (though it's debatable how much effect it would have in THAT game.) Heck, a dismemberment mechanic being introduced to any of the Elder Scrolls or Fallout games as a truly relevant non-death element of the game could be cool (I was an adventurer once, 'til I took an arrow to the knee and LOST MY FRIGGIN' LEG.) Or, for maximum humor value, Chex Quest.
>2015 >"Its kinda surprising that there haven't been many more mods applying this concept to older shooting games" >2018 >"There's too many brutal mods"
GG, have you by chance heard of SMOD? It's a HL2 mod that's similar in some regards to Brutal Half Life with some silliness added to it (mainly exemplified through the weapons). You should check it out if you haven't done so yet
There is such mods in certain other games, in duke 3d you have duke plus, but it's quite low in terms of gore level (think of something like quake 2) Nali weapons 3 for UT99 a weapon pack that also adds gore. in UT2004 you have ballistic weapons with bloody hell using the bloody hell mutator allows you to play with great gore with almost any other mod and weapons. the only thing about UT2004 is you can't gib dead corpses aside from a few mods that allow it. In Deus Ex you have GMDX. With postal 2 you have a week in paradise mod or if you have the fudge pack or the latest full edition of postal 2 you have the maximum gore in there. Personally the only game that would be an absolute blast to play with a proper gore mod would be red faction 1 as it had 0 dismemberment at all.
I thought I saw this out there, once, and I thought to myself, "Is Half-Life really able to be... 'brutal'?" It's kind of true, and you hit the point: it's a totally different game than Doom was; Doom was a fast-paced, balls-to-the-wall action game, and Half-Life was a game that was better at story-telling in the environment, player interaction, and an overall feel of sci-fi horror. Putting insane violence in Half-Life isn't bad, it's just not really like ice-cream and chocolate - it's more like rice and salt: it tastes good, but it's not special and doesn't mean a whole lot. Somewhere out there, I think there is also a Brutal Hexen, and I think that would be more fun, because Hexen is a bit... monotonous, even on the highest difficulty settings. Maybe even Heretic, would work, too. Either way, great to come home and see this, and awesome review, as always. :)
You should check out the Warriors it's a very underrated beat em up that came out on the ps2 with allot of replay value, a great sense of style, brutal fun gameplay and a cool story you won't regret it GGM give it a try if you see this
Well you said it yourself, don't bash on a mod that's not even finished. You should tell the guys working on this though, say about the empty areas without enemies and I'm pretty sure they'd add some more in there.
Thank you so much for reviewing this, I loved it but I did feel it was more of a enhancement mod and nothing that major, unlike Brutal Doom where they have added so many new and original things to the blood cake. But I should keep my mouth shut as it's only in beta. But anyway, I'd really like to see your opinion on Crack-Life : Campaign Mode.
Brutal Quake, Brutal Hexen, Brutal Sin, Brutal Blood, Brutal Duke Nukem 3D, Brutal Strife, etc. There is so many brutal mods you can make for so many old school games - I bet there are plenty of people already on the majority of the games I mentioned.
Every time I hear "Look, Sonny Jim", I imagine some guy named Jim interrupts the review by walking into the room. What does Jim look like? The world may never know...
I honestly don;t think there is much of a difference. HL was always brutal. From the fell of the weapons fire to the death animations it always had an impact. Not to mention the way bodies were torn to bits during explotions and you would find that bloody skull with the one eye in it. You know the one. Do we really need a mod that adds to that? I mean, yeah the custom animations are nice and the weapons fire seems a bit more faster. I guess that is a good thing. As the author has stated, HL is not really about the combat, it's more about discovering a sci-fi universe in which a damn alien invasion is slowly happening. Games like Turok or Serious Sam would benefit more from these "brutal" mods, i think.
So, GGGman says he finds Brutal Doom to be harder than vanilla. I've always felt the opposite way. I have no idea what the general consensus is. I guess if I had to categorize the things that make it harder or easier: Harder because- more enemy attacks, many of which are tricky to deal with specters slightly harder to see slightly weaker plasma and BFG slightly weaker rockets reloading sometimes enemies survive mortal wounding Easier because- more powerful shotguns carbine replaces pistol minigun with more ammo capacity and extremely high fire rate that can decimate most groups of enemies extra hp from berserker pack kills and cruelty bonus extra hp from breaking props dual-wield plasma rifles frag grenades (somewhat balanced out since they destroy ammo pickups) mancubus flamethrower (makes archviles completely impotent) no hitscans apart from archviles Just my thoughts.
Yeah, I also thought Brutal made Doom so much easier. It kinda broke the difficulty balancing. I never understood what people were getting at when they said it was more difficult, maybe they didn't even know.
Well you said it yourself, the mod isn't finished. Seems a bit unfair to criticise it in a video. What you should do though tell the guys working on this, say about the empty areas without enemies and big segments of the game feeling like regular old vanilla half life, and well they wouldn't have a reason to leave it as is.
Chris He did exactly that in this video, saying he can't criticize it is fucking retarded. If you don't criticize something how will it ever get better?
GGG, I think you might want to check out another mod, that is just about to release in a few hours, called GMDX (Give Me Deus Ex) for the original Deus Ex.
Can you do a review of 'Valiant' mod for Doom? There's also now a 'Vaccinated Edition' available if you do not personally like the enemies and weapons included in the original version. (Changes all enemies/weapons back to original Doom II, but another gameplay mod also can now be used alongside it)
I think what would make this mod click better much like Brutal Doom did (and yeah, I know it's a little late to say this :/ ) is to have more ammo and enemies in each of the chapters (within reason of course). Not an extreme amount, but just enough so that there is enough shooting to appreciate the brutal aspects of the mod without there being too much of a change into Half-Life's formula.
Johnathon Beaumont #TeamHeavy Yeah but I'd imagine that's something that kinda has to stay in the game. It'd be up to the player to adapt to the hitscan enemies and puzzles.
i could always count on you for a non bias review i mean i installed this a gave it a play a little while ago and i didn't really like it that much on its own it's a damn good mod,but its always gonna be in the potion where its compared to brutal doom which is unfortunate however you're like 100 percent right when i played this the first time i always felt like something was wrong but i couldn't quite put my finger on it but try doom v20 and the classic mode thats my favorite version of doom but this was a really good review and i commend you for that.
Have you reviewed Prospekt? I seem to remember a thumbnail for it, but I can't find it in your video list. If I'm misremembering, are you planning on reviewing it? Thanks for the awesome free entertainment btw.
