Very impressive sculpture lesson. I’m not sure if it is your original creation, or a borrowed idea, but your directions are very clear, thorough, and your students are lucky to have you.

Thank you! It is an idea that has been around for while, seen with different forms of clay ranging from polymer to self hardening to ceramic, but I was hoping to create simple, informative instructions for students at home or in the classroom so everyone could feel successful. I’m glad you enjoyed it!

I'm just about to do this project with my 5th grade students. Wonderful video, thank you! I just completed my example, and the issue I'm having (not sure anyone else mentioned) is the marker fading. A LOT. I used regular crayola markers and drew on top of the model magic to add more contrast with vibrant colors. it looked great! But then I left it out to dry overnight, and they all went back to blended pastel colors. I went over it all again before bed...woke up, no longer vibrant again! Is there a way to make sure the colors stay bright and crisp?
@BethanyThiele
@BethanyThiele Год назад
Mixing the marker with the model magic seems to work best. When I draw on top, it looks more vibrant at first and then soaks in as it sits longer. You could try adding “drawn on” details after the model magic dries and see if that helps though!

If they don't finish it in one class, can you put it in a Ziploc bag and push all the air out? Will it still be soft the following week?
@BethanyThiele
@BethanyThiele 9 месяцев назад
Yes! It will still be soft BUT be aware the washable marker will bleed/spread especially if details were drawn on.

Hello! How many ounces are the model magic packets you use and give each student?
@BethanyThiele
@BethanyThiele Год назад
Plan on 1 ounce minimum of white per student! I like to also offer additional small amounts of black and primary colors when possible (for details and additional color mixing options).

How long do you generally give your students to make this project? Amazing resource, thank you!
@BethanyThiele
@BethanyThiele 4 месяца назад
It really depends on length of class and how detailed you want kids to make them. I give older kids longer (3 classes)
