For the first time in 47 years I built and launched a model rocket. I'm a Born Again Rocketeer! "BAR" Model rockets are a fun way to learn about physics and science.
Took me back 20 years! I’m a Chicago proper resident but I had a close friend that had a few hundred acres of farm land about 30 miles west that I spent just about every weekend of my young life at. My wife and I used to take the kids and break out the homemade rockets and Estes Flight-Pak out and spend the day chasing drifting rockets (sometimes through the corn fields).Thank you so much for this video and all your others. We will be revisiting this activity with our granddaughter this summer. The farm is gone unfortunately, but we are fortunate to have an approved field several miles away.
I had a box of 7 rockets I had never launched in my shed for 20 years. One day about a year ago I looked at them and said, "I gotta launch some rockets!" I have not looked back. The hardest part for me was finding a suitable launch site.
I'm also getting back into the hobby as well. For me, it's also been about 40 years since I last flew. That rocket was the blue bird zero, it was a sounding/sport rocket. I wish well on your next launch!
Very cool! I had a small one like that maybe 10 years ago, at some point the parachute was gone so I made a new one out of a plastic shopping bag! Worked great ;)
Did the BAR thing in the 90s. Built the 'Patriot' model lost it on the first lunch. Never got back into it. Later blew a ton of $$ building and crashing quad copters.
I'm pretty excited about this! There's so much that one can do within the rocketry hobby! Look forward to seeing what you do with it! Could definitely see your excitement!
Hell yeah those are so cool maybe a wireless ignition system with an arduino would be great too, to increase the safety and just add a bit more fun to the hobby as well
Nice video. I'm a BAR also, NAR L1, going for L2. Live in Aberdeen and launch at a farm in Midland, flying with the ROCC, Rocketry Of Central Carolina club.
My shop is in Aberdeen! Euro Auto Service next to Burney's Hardware. This weekend I plan on launching from the freshly cleared land behind Burnout Alley. It's going to be a park and it's currently a huge 40+ acre sand lot!
How far are you all from Charleston SC. I’m getting back into it and need to stop buying kits as I haven’t built but 3 so far and have way too many (says the wife). Found a club in central SC but long drive and not a member yet. Even driving up to meet and greet some launch day would be worth it. 43 plus years and I’m starting back up. Just need to slow down 🤣. Wife’s gonna kill me if I buy more 🚀 then she has 👠. 🫣
Well, we are about same age and I’m just getting back in the hobby here since 79. Just south of ya in SC. Bought an Alpha an the Mosquito to start (First Alpha kit, n love ‘em). Launched both for a STEM event and Mosquito will be ordered again. Just can’t track that little sucker 😂 I’m on rocketry forum as well. Not sure if my handle is Centuri79 or SEABEEADP. Need to get back on the site. Doing better than I with the kits. I’m up yo like 25 or so now and NO idea why. Still trying to find place to launch in the low country Thanks for vids. Never to young to start back up again
last rocket I made was made out of a carpet roll, 5ft height, with 15 E engines, that only 7 of them lit. After waiting 3min or so, thought we lost it, and it came crashing back down and sink 2ft into the ground. Really shouldn't have launched that in city limits.
awesome hobby. I noticed that you also made lots of video about machine repair. I'm wondering are you up for a collaboration? Hipa supplies small engine parts and I'm looking for youtubers to work with to share more tips on small engine repairing.
