Hey! Thanks for this comparison. Very useful! I did a comparioson between the China-produced long range and german performance-version. My conclution is that even the performance (with 21`wheels) from Germany is more comfortable than the chinese LR. However at the time I compared the -21 LR with the -22 performance. Now I have a -22 LR from China, and I think the suspension of this actually is slightly improved compared with the -21 model. So good to hear Tesla is continuing improvements to its suspension. :)

Shanghai has now got updated suspension and seats apparently ... please compare 2023 models at some stage

Have had my standard MIC Model Y for one week. Adore it like my first push bike when I was 7 years old! Put a few sacks of potatoes in the back (car not bike) and the ride is softened up perfectly. Also you'll have potatoes as a added bonus. German luxury but with additional potatoes!

PS. regarding double glass: if you have double glass with different thickness, they in theory should isolate different frequencies of noise. So if you look at double glass window for houses, there is usually one glass that is very thick and one that is thinner. Its due to the frequency responses.

The Tesla Factory was closed for upgrades in August 2022, I wonder if you could do a comparison for the old vs new model from Shangai.

Mine rattled in the back as well, took several hours for the Tesla technician to find out the source of it: the electrical wiring for the factory installed hitch mount was loose and touched body parts when driving over tiniest bumps. He tied them down and the rattle is gone and has not come back.

Thanks for the great video! I heard that one of the issues with the model Y was the maximum load capacity. There’s a lot of space but only about 400 kg is allowed as added weight. In another video I heard that “Giga Berlin” was going to solve this. Do you know if there is a difference between the Shanghai and Berlin version at this point?

Thank you for doing this comparison. Wondering if the Texas built 2023 cars will be even better. Have you heard of any of the LR model Y’s being built with 4680 batteries in Europe? Some model Y LR built in Giga Texas have 4680’s.

Interesting comparison but suspect this is more a comparison of build timing rather than location. I have a September built china Model Y and similar to what is being shown as the Berlin build. Suspension is definitely softer than the earlier built model I test drove pre order.

I think the differences in the seats is interesting. I live next to the old tesla hq in California and I would bet all the cars I see are from the Freemont factory. The seats are soft like the Chinese ones and much softer compared to the German cars sold in the usa as well. I personally prefer the stiffer seats.

Are you sure that the long range from Germany has the 19" wheels? It usually comes with induction wheels on 20" or Gemini on 19". The car seems to have the black ones so it should be the Induction 20".

So what's the situation with the parking assistance nowadays with Tesla's? Like can you still ride straight into concrete or another car without giving any warning?

it is just different versions and made that way where the specific market and regulation requires. Also some parts are locally sourced which makes some difference. all the designs are done by Tesla anyways.

How is Performance ride compared to LR Berlin? Is it a big difference? I ordered Performance but thinking to switch to LR because of the ride quality, is it worth it?

Thanks for the great update. I wonder if you have tried to change the tires on the Performance to 275/35/21 in the front and 295/35/21 in the rear to better protect the rims and for a softer ride. I just wonder if the ride is improved in the performance from Berlin with less stretched tires and new suspension. Thanks

I test drove a RHD UK Model Y LR from Shanghai and the ride quality was a deal breaker. It was very harsh over broken British roads. I felt beaten up after the 30 min test drive, it was way harsher than my friend’s Porsche 911. Good to know different suspensions versions exist, though. Ryan Shaw got a new Model Y and is saying it has a much better ride than his old one. Looks like I need to wait for them to update UK Model Y’s with the newer suspension.

Hi there, what do you think - can we be sure that a model Y Quicksilver LR AWD ordered now will be from Berlin? Price cut has really put the model Y back in the forefront for me... I've literally configured mine exact model in the first days of 2023 and now the same configuration is 9000 euros cheaper :)

Thanks for the video. Tip: plan the video a bit more, it was kind of all over the place in the driving section. You could ex, watermark with what car you were driving at what point instead of saying it randomly in the video. The mic was also not optimally placed, rub rub :) keep it up, take this as advice.

So Tesla has matrix headlights... Good! Are they adaptive?

These cars may have the matrix LED headlights (in terms of the hardware fitted) but the ‘matrix’ aspect is currently non operational as it’s not supported by the software - anywhere. To be clear I am talking about the ability of the lights to maintain full beam whilst blocking out areas that would dazzle oncoming road users. Current Model Y’s do not do that.

I don't have a telegram, but I can only complete that the whole automotive industry made the only change it made was that the first vehicles were built of wood and synthetic materials, and now, the same industry builds from different metals and different synthetic materials. But the mechanical principles remained the same from that period, only with small innovations in places. If I were to buy a new car, first of all I look if it is totally technical-mechanically different from the other existing vehicles. The interior/exterior design forms and others are on a second plane.

Whenever you say what the difference is, you need to say if you think it is BETTER or not. For instance, when you say "the seat is softer," do you think it feels better or worse? Is that a good thing or bad thing? Also, if there is "more suspension," is that a good thing or not?

We also tried the German Long Range before we made a decision and then decided to order it. Very comfortable and with some better tires it gets even quieter. Would‘ve been nice to get some sort of ultrasonic sensors, but since we need the car soon and got the lowered prices applied to our order we decided to take the delivery early next month. Can‘t wait to play around with it and take it for some longer rides that were quite a pain in my old Golf 3 😅

I ordered MYP at the end of March this year and there is no sign of delivery so far, it has even been postponed to the Q2 of next year, this is ridiculous, I thought I ordered model X

This is very interesting. I'm in the UK, and some people here have been saying since the middle of this year that the suspension on their newly delivered cars feels better than the test drive ones we had early this year (so that would mean it was changed probably around the same time the parcel shelf was added). All UK cars are currently built in Shanghai. We've now got one, collected in September, so it has the parcel shelf and most of the other changes shown here (not the new seats), but to me it feels just as harsh and bumpy as the earlier test drive ones (the way you describe the older Shanghai one here). So I don't know if the suspension hadn't actually been changed on the cars built in Shanghai, or they just decided to put the old version in ours for some reason, but either way I'd really like to find out if there's a way I can get the newer suspension parts fitted. Also, did you notice any difference in the sound it makes when the boot unlatches between the three cars? When you opened the boot on one of them at 5:52, that sounded really nice, almost silent, but ours always makes a loud "bang" sort of noise as it unlatches!

All Model Y/3 (except performance) build on September 2022 and beyond have the upgraded suspensions. ON ANY FACTORY not just gigaberlin!

Hmm well, let's hope Tesla does some continuous improvement in Shanghai as well. Seems to me the suspension should be easy to improve with updated parts (ie no downtime needed).

Thank you for your comparison. Assuming these Teslas were meant to be sold internationally, shouldn't they be the same quality regardless of country of manufacture? Should there be differences, its Tesla that should be questioned. From a consumer perspective, the purchasing decision is base on the brand and not where its products are made.

How the hell did you get your hands on a German built Long Range? 😂 Haven’t heard of the new seats in Shanghai-built cars but the newer Shanghai builds which have the parcel shelf also have upgraded suspension.

So… Shanghai Long Range February 2022 vs Berlin Long Range from September 2022. Not even going to bother with the Performance because it’s not the same. That’s not a fair competition. Same year means nothing because Tesla changes and revamps month to month. At least get one from a similar month.
