My airbrush struggles with this stuff... IWATA NEO 0.3mm - splatters everywhere. I have changed my technique, deep cleaned the airbrush several times. I use Vallejo black prime no issues for years - White primer is a problem.
I picked some of this up yesterday. Can't get it to work right. Thinned, not thinned, different psi, 0.2 or 0.4 needle, different spray distances, it's always either too splotchy or just runs all over the model. Pretty new to airbrushing and I'll keep experimenting; this has just been a nightmare.
Just worked with the Tamiya surface primer, but I am not so happy about the result. I find it difficult to dispense with the aerosol. I see that you use that primer from Vallejo in your airbruch, I think this is better to dose and you use less primer and you have more control over your work, I will try it too, Thanks for your video tutorial.
What Air Pressure do you run when you are spraying the primers? I am having big clogging issues with my Infinity and evolution with the black primer from vallejo
Nice tutorial! Wow, straight from the bottle!? I've heard a lot of good things about Vallejo but seeing this here is a first for me. I usually have to thin all the other primers. Can you do this with any airbrush? I have a Paashe VL dual action and an Iwata Madea Eclipse.
At first glance on your intro... I literally thought that was a huge jug of marijuana. Then I realised it's actually trees and shrubs for scenery modeling. Goes to show how much paraphernalia there is on RU-vid. I literally think everything is weed. Lol!
Hey Models Workshop, I have a question. Does Vallejo primer have to be combined with Vallejo airbrush thinner to run smoothly without getting clogged? I'm using an Iwata Revolution airbrush, and the primer by itself seems to be a bit too thick. It keeps getting clogged. Any tips? Thanks!!
Great. I did notice that water loosens it up, but I'm having problems figuring out the ratio so the primer doesn't splatter. Do you know the ratio of water to primer? Thanks.
jammerman28 that's all about experimentation. If you're getting splatter either turn down your air pressure, don't pull back on the trigger as much, or don't be so close on the piece. I run high pressure but don't open the trigger all the way and spraying about 8 inches away.
hello, great video. will this primer work on brass? I'm a model railroader and want to a brass locomotive and I bought some of this primer hoping it would work.
I have had this problem once and it was a particular kit, that Vallejo Primer just was not getting on with. I use Vallejo primer a lot, so I am very comfortable with applying it. Switched to another brand to prime that model. So if we look past it just might be a problem like I had, the main issue comes from thinning it. That definitely weakens it and the bond is not as good to the model. The other issue for sanding, is not allowing enough time to cure before trying to sand it and using a course grit. I spray the primer without thinning and I won't sand it until the primer has had at least 24 hours to cure. I use fairly mild grits which don't seem to tear the primer. Hope that helps Dan.
Have you tried MinWax acrylic polyurethane as a primer. You can add any color you want. Plus, you can use it as a clearcoat. It comes in gloss, semi gloss, and matt. It shoots and lays down great. For the price per volume it's much cheaper than any brand name acrylic primer.
Hello! Other than its dedicated brand cleaner, what easy-to-find-at-home-cheap-product can I use to clean the airbrush? I mean something that doesn´t produce any goo.
That is very high. It is possible the primer was drying on the tip of the airbrush. I use the same primer and spray through a .35 needle, the same size as your at around 22-25 PSI. Dan
