I TOTALLY agree with every single negative point about Mario Maker. BUT the people who do play Mario Maker regularly (like me) use the subreddit and other social media to get codes for good levels and to find good creators. You really shouldn't have to go outside of the game to make it fun, but when you do this Mario Maker is fantastic, literally unlimited good mario levels!

Great video, I think that you put more thought into this video than the developers did.

Another excellent video, yay :D crawling through the mines of Mario Maker levels reminds me of trying to find good Skyrim mods. So much stuff out there you don't have any interest in that just gets in the way of decent stuff that it ends up not being worth the effort. It's a bit of a shame.

I think "New Super Mario Bros DS"'s enemies have a certain charm to them. They're very weird, reminicent of those in games like Mario 64. Some are ugly, but given the plain and consistent aesthetic Mario adopted recently, ugly is a breath of fresh air.

I’d like to give my thoughts on each of these games: -New super Mario bros This game is what I honestly feel to be the best of the “new” series, it definitely feels like it subverted (at least my) expectations for 2D Mario, after going back to it a few years ago it just kept surprising me with how much it innovated and even improved upon aspects of the series, if any game was deserving of the title “super Mario bros 5”, it was definitely this one. (Also, did you know that the Japanese box art of super Mario world actually says “super Mario bros 4” on it?) -New super Mario bros Wii This is certainly an odd case, although this is the one I have the most nostalgia for, I still see it as the worst of the 4. It does feel like the whole “1 step forward 5 steps back” thing, the game itself plays kinda poorly, it feels a lot clunkier than the previous game (why doesn’t anyone ever acknowledge that?), I feel it’s visuals are pretty bad looking, like even for a wii game, everything looks like the absolute cheapest plastic. Plus there’s the whole thing with the characters being unusually small on the screen, why do modern 2D platformers on home consoles always do this? Sonic colors did this too (and even worse) and I just don’t understand it, this isn’t a problem on handhelds. Overall the game is... decent? I dunno, it’s definitely the most underwhelming one, I’ve owned it since it came out and only just bothered to beat it this year. -New super Mario bros 2 I don’t know why this is an unpopular opinion, but I feel this is the next best in the series after the first one. It’s gameplay feels great, none of the problems that the wii game has, and same goes for the visuals, this game just looks way better than wii. and the level design is... actually, it’s great too, it feels exactly like the first “new” game and the classics, everything is placed with actual purpose. In terms of theming, I actually feel it’s visual style is different enough to not feel like a retread of Mario 3 or 3D land. I know it seems weird that it’s called 2, I used to feel the same way that “why is the third game in the series called 2?”, but this game actually takes after the first game way more than wii does, it does feel like a true sequel to it whereas wii just feels like a successor, it kinda makes me wish they never made wii. I feel like the only reason people don’t care for this one is entirely because of when it came out, I didn’t get around to fully playing it until 2015 (around the lackluster release of Mario maker), and it was great isolated like this. -New super Mario bros U Also don’t know why this opinion is so unpopular... this game... not that much better than wii. First off, just like how 2 is undoubtedly a sequel to DS, this game is the direct sequel to wii, and has all the problems that come with it. The visuals look exactly the same (actually maybe a little worse seeing them at a higher resolution), characters are too small, it feels clunky, and the level design, while better, is still nowhere near the quality of 3, world, or new 1 and 2. I can definitely compliment the world map, but that’s not much of a compliment, the series already did this 2 decades prior. I did however still get a better experience than I would have had I played it when it came out, much like how I waited to play 2, I didn’t get U until it came out on the switch. I already left another comment about this, but also there’s that thing with the painted looking level that everyone says the whole game should’ve looked like, but that doesn’t make any sense because that’s literally exactly what yoshi’s new island looks like and everyone inexplicably hates it. -Super Mario maker You honestly said exactly how I feel, not much I can add, cool concept, but the problem is that apparently nobody actually wanted to make 2D Mario levels. (Also, I don’t know about anyone else, but for some reason I found the Mario 3 style to be the only one that’s actually fun to play) -3DS Mario maker I got this one on release for some reason (Nintendo’s 2015-16 schedule was unusually barren of nothing but scraps.) and after playing it for about an hour or so I realized “wait, why did I get this?” and I’ve been thinking of it as a regretful purchase ever since. I didn’t know about the built in levels though, I’m totally gonna play that sometime, glad I still have the game. -super Mario maker 2 Can’t really say much about this, I feel pretty much the same, it’s cool that the game has a story mode, but I just couldn’t get into when it released, similar to the first game, I played it for a few days and just got sick of it. Now here’s my final rank list, from worst to best: 7- Super Mario maker 6- 3DS Mario maker 5- Super Mario maker 2 4- New super Mario bros wii 3- New super mario bros U 2- New super Mario bros 2 1- New super Mario bros I definitely love 1 and 2, and I still like U and Wii, but I just don’t care for the maker games.

Super mario maker 2 endless mode is actually a lot better than the 100 mario challenge, since for a level to appear in the mode it requiers at leat 1 like. Endless mode is the mode that i play the most on smm2, and unlike smm1 i always find very fun levels.

I’m glad someone else was as cynical as me about Super Mario Maker.

Great video! I really enjoyed watching the whole thing, however I must complain that you mentioned the Ice Flower's first Appearance was in New Super Mario Bros Wii, when it actually appeared in Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time and Super Mario Galaxy before then.

In terms of the new SM series I like Wii and Wii u. I did not care for nsmb or nsmb2.

The first 'New' Super Mario Bros. is the worst by a large margin, and I'm not just saying that because I wasn't in it. It came out right after Super Mario Advanced 4, it even started out as SMA5 before they decided to make it into its own thing, for too many reasons to list. So where do they go after all those innovative eReader levels? The ones almost no one played, because nobody bought an eReader, and even fewer people would have been able to get ahold of the cards, if they were even all available in America. After not making a true sequel to World, do they do that? Do they make a game featuring all the stuff they've learned revisiting all those old games? No! They revert all the way back to SMB1 for some reason, no leaf, no feather, no acorn (or whatever new flight power they would have come up with), and no Yoshi. Absolute bare bones. In fact it was so bare that they went in and added crap like the Mega Mushroom, which like or hate, is not flight power. So that's it then? I judge Mario games based on the flight powerup? Well... to a certain extent, yes. That's going to be the power I spend 98.6% of the game playing as... if I have any say. Which is one of a billion reasons SMB3 is better than SMW. Sure you can fly longer with the cape, but that actually cheapens everything; old four eared somewhat furry Mario is the much better choice. Also, NSMB2 is objectively the best, because it's the one without Dad's new golden child. Don't you mean _subjectively?_ That's an opinion-- seven characters with seven different designs and seven different personalities are better than one poorly thought out mini-me character by every metric there is. *_Fight me._* To add to that, it's the only 2D Mario game with an actual challenge to it. Anyhow, it'll remain the best until they put Odyssey-tier work into designing a fifth one; and seeing as how it's been ten years since the last installment, maybe they have really given up?
