In this video I am testing a modified barrel tensioner system on the FX Impact M3 by adding another carbon sleeve to make the barrel stiffer and completely solid. Enjoy Peter P/Viking Airgunner
I have a FX Maverick in .25 and I don’t have a .177 but I do like watching this channel. I am impressed with what performance has been achieved with the .177 .
Great video mate! Really interesting to see how a bit of experimenting with your tensioning kit and different velocitys can get the best accuracy out of your impact. I have the tensioning kit fitted to my M3 and i also fitted the factory shroud over the tension kit ( little bit of modification needed) and as for accuracy, well it didnt make things better but neither did it make things worse but fitting a donny fl fatboy with extender and muzzle break really did help though.
Thanks buddy 🙂 The right silencer really helps alot on the barrel tensioner ☝️ I can easily imagine the Fatboy doing a great job. What did you use as the rear insert in the back of the shroud?
@@VikingAirgunner i just used some self almalgamating tape , others have used painters tape but whatever you use ,just make sure the diameter of it is correct so you have a nice tight fit.some people on airgun nation have managed to use brass plumbers parts with the correct thread size.
Thanks Antony 🙂 I have only tried the 177 but was tempted to go to 22 at one point. But with the results and the other benefits of the 177 in mind I decided to stick to this 🙂
Hi Peter , I have so much invested in my Impact I am forced to deal with a problem FX has put a band aide to fix a good twist liner . The tensioner is hit and miss with each kit . Some seem to be happy with it , I guess ? I am doing the same thing you are in trying to deal with accuracy and a massive shift of the barrel when tensioning the carbon sleeve . I took photos of the ends of the carbon sleeve I received . One was square , the other was visibly not . I contacted my supplier and they in turn contacted FX . There response ?… like crickets . There is a new kid on the block , Skout Epoch ! It’s arguably expensive but not really . By the time I think of all the upgrade expenses and thousands of pellets wasted trying to fix my Impact without support , I’m done . Love my Skout Epoch ! You will spend more time enjoying shooting instead of wasting time !
Im sorry to hear that you have had an experience like that with fx. I have had contact a couple of times and they always helped 🤔 Reguarding the ends of the tensioning carbon sleeve - I went to a factory close to where I live and they cut it with industrial accuracy and it took 5 minuts 🤗 I have seen the Epoch and talked to the guy at IWA in Germany. Very nice gun but as I understand they do not have a designated slug barrel in 177 yet? 🤔 Im excited to see when people start to test it under normal circumstances. And show it on video. I have heard so many talking about their guns alwsys being hole in hole on 100 m and without warm up. Especially one particular brand (guess wich) But any time someone shows up shooting next to me they NEVER out perform the Impact. But it would be nice to see the Epoch performing well since the guy from the company seems very nice, smart and dedicated 🤗
Peter , I attest to these things with the 30 cal 35 “ barrel Skout Epoch . Stable FPS from first shot to last . I think the shut-off valve to the main bottle and releasing pressure to the valves contributes to this stability . Something FX could learn from . Better shot count with the same velocities and grain on slug or pellet . The electronic trigger is by far better than any PCP for that matter . Much easier to adjust regulator pressures . The top rail that holds the scope is so much better than the FX Impact and is much more secure . Barrel swap is effortless and much more solid than FX . Big plus , if you want to shot some other manufacturers barrel . You can send your barrel for conversion . The overall frame is much more robust which will contribute to less air leaks . Because there is no hammer to engage the valve , it is easier to cycle pellets or slugs in the breach and is smoother when firing because it is activated by an electronic solenoid rather than a spring and hammer . The programmable trigger may scare some but it has been tested and found to be extremely reliable under adverse conditions . It has programming adjustments to suite any shooter . Pellet on pellet is one hole with a 5 shot group . Literally one hole at 40 yards and is the farthest I can shoot in my back yard . It is sub MOA at 100 yards at the range No air gun I have ever owned , has , out of the box been this accurate ! The negatives , but fixable , is is loud . I have corrected it with a Donny FL Emperor and it’s back yard friendly . It does not in any way effect accuracy . Some shooters will be skeptical with pricing , but if you are serious about air gunning , you will own one one day ! In closing and it’s funny to say this , you have a choice ! If you like to tinker trying to find accuracy don’t buy the Skout Epoch ! Lol It’s a gun you will go out and shoot and not have to mess with . It’s almost boring. NOT !
One other thing I must say . We are a consumer with the love of this sport . I commend FX for the advancement of the PCP . They have done a lot off innovative work . There success is a testament to their growth . However, any company can lose its way in design upgrades . The most damaging is when you lose touch with your dealers and their service department. They can become inundated with repairs and delays in replacement parts . It is not the dealers fault . The customer in turn suffers and it leaves a bad taste in their mouth with little to no resolve. It can be that way with any company that doesn’t pay attention to what is the most important . The customer who buys their product !
I tried it on my M3 but result were bad. went from 5mm C2C at 25yd to 10cm c2c :(. happy i tried it a close range. Removing it was an immediate fix. Not sure what went wrong. I have to say my extra CF tube was a super tight fit had to tap it lightly wit a hammer to get it the CF tube from the tentioner. it did slide over the barrel without any issue. But after tapping it out I did not trust the CF tube anymore so It went in the trash. Live and learn ;-)
Hi, greatings from Portugal. Im not a guru, just wanna give u a idea. My experience with cf tension is good, but I have to face the top ends on a lathe machine. They dont prepare the tube as it should from factory. And the torque settings is hand thight plus 1/8 of a turn. If necessary buy a torque wrench and try diferent torques to see what is better. This aplyes to the 700 and 800mm barrel. Next u should work on the barrel as well. Put a pellet on it and push with a fiber or wood rod until gets out. You must eliminate (except the choked) the thight areas inside the barrel polishing them. This all together will make tighter your groups and no flyers. Dont believe on you tube marketing channels, every fx barrels are diferent, actually does not exist equal barrels even in firearms. Next for long range buy altaros and shhot them at 900fps, they are insane. You can plinking with a 20cm gong at 500 meters
As I see it there can be a few reasons why the tensioner doesnt improve accuracy. Ammo too light or maybe try a different torque of the tension 🤔 I cut one tensioner down to fit a 600 mm barrel and it was not a succes - but then again... Fx doesnt make it for the 600 mm liner for a reason I guess 😃
The tensioner causes more problems than it solves . Tension can be inconsistent changing point of impact . It can come lose during shooting . Worst is a carbon fiber sleeve that is not square on each end causing a massive shift when tensioning the barrel . So much so your scope can’t compensate for the shift ! It is absolutely ridiculous FX hasn’t done a better job fixing this problem . Not only that but it’s like crickets when you ask for a replacement carbon fiber replacement .
@@VikingAirgunnerI am doing the same thing you are Peter . There are a lot of carbon fiber suppliers . It’s hit and miss with the dimensions and the quality of the outer sleeve . I will keep you posted as I get samples and try different manufacturers . The ticket is to find a sleeve combination that will go all the way to the breach and the same diameter to allow there block clamping device to give stiffness to the barrel length . I’m adding additional O-Rings on the sleeve to metal shroud . Then stacking the carbon fiber layers to keep an overall stiffness. Good luck my friend !
Hi Marco Excellent question. Actually I have not explored the true potential of the 600 heavy liner, since I only shot it for a short period. So claiming to be an expert on that barrel would be a bit of a statement. It did very well with the 13 gr ZAN and the 15 gr NSA, but to get the heavier ones to fly well I had to go very high on the reg or go for the dual hole transfer port. My buddy is using that transfer port with very little spread, so it is possible to shoot both 16 and 20 gr in the 600mm with a reg at max 140 bar. I like the 700 mm since the tensioner system makes a positive difference and bcs I can keep the reg low. 132 bar for 20 gr with the standard transfer port. The accuracy of the 700 mm is outstanding. Best groups are still with the 16 gr Zan. Exploring the 20 gr Zan wih heavier hammer weights at the moment to find their true potential, so maybe this will give the last bit to equal the 16 gr groups. So long answer short: 600 mm is great but I will stick to the 700 mm 😃
@@VikingAirgunner Thanks Peter for the longer reply, I just recieved today dual transfer port, will see how my groups improve at 75-100m. I currently have the, heavy slug linner, barrel sleve, tensioner, slug power tune kit with 8.5g hammer, still need to experiment with the 6.9g to find best fit... Just not sure if 100mm extra will give me that extra acurracy, vs the pricee for the upgrade (Barrel Kit FX Impact Tensioned 700 mm)
And you will be the first to know that I will recieve a Lothar Walter barrel in a couple of days. So lots of testing ahead and an exciting result to look forward to 😃
Just thinking!? The liner inside the "barrel" is supported with 3 or 4 O-rings. Maybe something similar to support the liner? But on the other hand, what we have then is just a solid rifle barrel.............. 🤔🙄
The piece between the housing and the barrel tensioner is: ID: 14 mm, OD: 16 mm. Yes you need the tensioner nut, but it only tensions the original barrel tensioner.
Looks like a solid kit. I am a little lost. I went to buy the 700mm tensioning kit but it states "This FX Impact 700 mm Tensioner kit replaces the original shroud of your M3" but you are still using yours what am I miss here?
In this video I am not using the shroud. Only the barrel tensioner - and the aditional carbon sleeves on the inside. If you want to use both the barrel tensioner and the shroud, the shroud has to be especially fitted.
@@VikingAirgunner can you tell me the exact size of the additional cf tube? Because i measure the od of barrel housing is 14,6mm and the id of cF that come from the tensioning kit) is 15mm... So what size of the cf additional tube i should order?
@@robinsonsitompul9362 I just checked and the barrel housing is 14 mm and the ID of the tensioner piece is 16mm, so it is as I say in the video: ID: 14 mm OD: 16 mm 🙂 You can find them on Ebay 😎
The liner sleeve can be bought quite a few places. I usually shop at Krale. The liner that I added in this video was from Ebay. Search for the measurements that I mention in the video 👍
Hi peter.. I just bought " Linerkit impact 4,5 700mm sniper tensioned like you have in october... And then my seller contacted me and ask me to check the cf sleeve inside the barrel... And guess what! The kit come with no cf sleeve!! The seller told me that all the liner kit come worh no cf sleeve in it... He already put complaint to fx... All i want to say that... Fx quality control is sucks now... Why fx send all the liner kit without cf sleeve to indonesia??? Already email fx and do you know what the reply? They just saying "terrible sorry it os our mistake.. We will ship it to you retailler" 😢😢 I'm very angry right now... Spend money but they give you incomplete part... and we have to wait months for it???
Im sorry to hear that buddy 😪 I hope that they will send it expres so you dont have to wait too long! But once you have installed it you will be very happy 🤗 Do you have a big retailers in Indonesia? I am currently looking for a partner in your part of the world 🙂
@@VikingAirgunner a retailer exactly.. But fx is very expensive here including the parts... If the price compared with the price in Europe or US it is very high price... Are you looking for bussiness partner? In what bussiness?
@@robinsonsitompul9362 Saddly I have heard that the price you pay are very high. Im looking for a well epuiped retailers that I can recommend to my viewers. Here in Europe there are quite a few places that are very well epuiped but anyway not all people know these places. So it makes sense for me to recommend. Like in the US where I am working with Airgun Titans. So if you have a place like this in Indonesia 🙂
@@VikingAirgunner nahhh... I won't recommend the retailer... Because it sucks... Especially the price is nonsense... Btw i want to ask you about something... I install the barrel Kit and also the probe... Now my gun sometimes failed to cock, so i have pull the cock lever twice and make double loading from the Magazine... Any idea what's wrong? Need advice from you..
@@robinsonsitompul9362 ohh! I appreciate your honesty. Usually it will do that if you have adjusted the trigger and made it too tight. Ernest Rowe has done a video where he goes into detail about it.
We should not have to mess about avoiding this problem, FX should supply a solid high quality barrel instead of the swaged low grade tube that costs about $3 and underpins the profit on a 2 grand rifle! This is not a stable solution, or fair value to have to fix supposedly the best, most expensive air rifles in the world.
First up I would appreciate a respectable tone. Anyone is welcome to share their point of view but please keep it clean. I am producing content to share my experiences and to give my contribution to the airgunning community. If you agree or feel that you expand your knowledge by watching my videos, I have forfilled my goal. If you dont you are more than welcome to share your knowledge - but please keep it clean. Secondly I have shot many 1/2 inch groups at 100 m, so the liner cant be all that bad. On top of that it had shown its worth in competitions time and time again beating rifles with traditional barrels. Lately even competing in NRL 22 matches and winning over powder burners. For your info I am modifying a barrel from Lothar Walter these days and will be performing a test to publish very soon. So lets see how it performs against the standard liner. In case you choose to comment on my reply please keep a civil tone.
So how do you explain that I am shooting sub 15 mm groups on 100 m over and over again? Please give my question some thought before answering since I am very interested in a usefull answer 🙂 And do consider that people are scoring solid scores using the standard setup and not the heavily upgraded version like mine.
