With the AWD and the 2.5L turbo from found in other models. It would be perfect and would compete with other hot hatches very well. The luxury interior, sporty design and the drivetrain to make it a hot hatch. We can only hope.
David Patterson 2020: “This car is a sleeper” Me: Oh yeah it is........Minus the body kit, wheel arch flares, big wing, loud exhaust, yellow fogs and stanced suspension. 😅
@@bgomusicco it's pretty slow, my 2018 with the 2.5L its really great. it only has 184hp but you can carry it sooooo well through turns. its a great drive.
Holy cow I have never been this early. David, thanks for all you do for the RU-vid and car community. I cannot wait to one day meet you and hopefully, in a year or so, get my car reviewed by you! It's going to be one sick third generation Prelude!
Flyin miata figured out the turbo compression issue, run a larger turbo on a lower boost level apparently works pretty good on these high comp skyactiv engines
Whatever works. I love these cars. I wouldn't say its rice like the guy was saying, except for tire rub bc anyone who is seriously into motorsports knows rub is a killer. I would love to turbo one
Vodka Vision I like the sleeper look of the speed6, i’ve driven gen1 and gen2 speed3’s. focus STs, the speed6 is the better car as a sedan and with awd. better than a WRX in my opinion as the mazdaspeeds are very reliable. I see how people like the look of the hatches though, don’t get much street cred for the MS6. I own a speed6 so i’m biased lol
@@Fivallify I like that no one knows what my mazdaspeed6 is. I stopped explaining it years ago and just start telling people it's a 4cyl Mazda6 with an exhaust. She only makes a bit over 500 wheel tho, so she isnt to special.
As a huge Mazda fan I’m especially into all these ‘different’ modified Mazdas. I actually looked into getting one of these as a daily for my Speed 3. It’s nice to see some of the less popular Mazdas in the car community getting some love
Completely agree, I’m thinking of doing a build like this on a 2015 Mazda 3 I’m looking at as a daily. Tho it’ll be a more subtle than the one in the video.
i own a 2014 in a AT transmission for daily driving. it has 120k miles and i've driven it up and down the west coast with no major mechanical problems. It's fun to drive and very economical. In my opinion, i can see this car , in a few years, being a budget friendly track car. It already handles amazing stock, but the suspension can be upgraded fairly cheap, the motor, in my opinion, is strong and doesn't eat up a ton of gas - I get about low 30's mpg, and the hatchback version is roomy to fit equipment and spare tires for track day! :) I see this car appealing to the weekend, low budget track guys and I feel like this will one day might carry mazda's "it's always the answer" title.
I so dearly love my '13 Mazdaspeed 3, tech package, 344whp/377tq. It is such a rewarding car to drive, super comfortable on long hauls, tons of cargo space.
I put coilovers on a honda fit years ago. While trying to figure out adjustments I found how big a difference in understeer/oversteer you could get with a slight difference in front/rear leaning. Especially depending on if the engine sits over the front wheels or slightly forward. The more forward you lean the car the more weight is moved in front of the front wheels & often the car will rotate faster.
@@alphafert608 i'm not surprised he encountered understeer with this current suspension set up. The way he drives he didn't shift the weight forward. That said, a stock Mazda 3 will out-handle this set up at the moment.
Cool! I’ve never seen one of these modified. It’s really clean and actually looks pretty badass. Need to do away with that steering wheel from a 78 Mack truck tho.👌🏽
Update on this. Will likely be using the CX9 engine which is a 2.5 turbo. Makes 227hp and 310tq. I’d assume they will up the boost to get the horsepower up. Imagine 3xx torque with a 6 speed. I can wait. I’m guessing they’ll reveal it around summer of this year and would likely be released at the end of 2020 or spring of 2021.
Finest the average person won’t be able to put a proper patch on a pair of pants, you really think it’s a simple task to stich a steering wheel cover? Why don’t you post your simple technique so we can all learn
Corksport makes a turbo for the 2.5 mazda 3 and I hear they are working on one for the 2.0 mazda 3 owners! I also know of a brand named VT that makes a supercharger for this car! Things are looking up for us mazda owners! Slowly but surely!💯i definitely got some big plans for it if I ever get the money!😂
I love my daily Mazda 3 2.5L 6 speed. It’s only 180 hp but can keep its momentum so it’s a win for someone who owns 2 94 miatas. The clutch is sooo light lol. It’s funny going from the ls2 Miata to the Mazda 3.
Love that you reviewed this car. I own a 2015 hatch modded similarly aside from headers and cams and tune. It's a great daily driver and over all awesome car!
I have a 2nd gen mazda 3 hatch and I love it. I know it's not fast but it's 'quick'. Swapped a 6 speed trans into it and it's a ton of fun to drive. Looks good enough to modify and be proud but it's not my dream car. Still love it either way though. It's my first "cool" car.
Reason that it has a lot of those engine mods is because that 2.0 engine is the exact same as the one in the ND Miata, just turned sideways. That’s why the cams fit and the turbo and supercharger kit won’t fit this car unless some custom mounting is done. This car will definitely be able to take boost since the ND Miata can and has turbo kits for it. Just needs the MazdaSpeed style hood, but it’s about $1000 shipped from Canada
I owned a 2009 Speed3. I think of it as a bad ex. It had its moments and we had some good times, but it went through 3 stock motors due to poorly designed parts failing, understeered when pushed, and was terrible to drive in anything but warm sunny weather. So sometimes late at night I miss it, but then I remember that I'm much better off without it.
Soo I want to clarify something. Skyactiv does not compress 14 to 1. It has the capability to but during compression stroke mazda keeps the intake valve open longer causing those gases to go into the intake. It's running more at 9 9.5 to one but that extra volume is there so all of the pressure in the cylinder is used and not pushed out the exhaust
Yesss! Been waiting for a non-speed-3 review. Everyone goes on about the speed3 (for good reason) but they ignore the NA models, which are also very fun. I feel like Mazda really focuses on fun and feel over impressive spec sheets. A risky move, but it's created some die-hard fans.
I still regret selling my 08 mazda 3 hatch. Similar color, great interior for the year, awesome little hatch. If mazda had made a speed3 when I was looking for something new, I would have got it in a heartbeat. They're awesome cars.
My buddy had a speed3, he was the first of our friend group to have a "fast" car. My friend group has now evolved hot hatches. Speed3, fiesta st, focus st, vw gti, and I give the credit to that little speed3
Mazda is super underrated. When i met my girlfriend she wasnt into cars really but she liked her manual mazda3 and akways takes good care of it. After driving it for awhile, i really enjoyed it. Next new car will be a new mazda for sure. Which is funny because I own a Mustang GT. I really like the new mx5 too, super fun car and looks good
daniel zychniewicz not really. Just because someone adds some small visual modifications, doesn’t earn it a rice status. The only borderline rice thing on this car, is the front splitter, otherwise it’s a visually ok looking car. I wouldn’t do many of these things to my car, but still, it’s not rice.
Ive wanted to see more modded versions of the two newer Mazda3 generations. They already look amazing, a new 2022 Mazda3 with aero, lowered, etc. would look sick.
Ive heard that before, but Majin BUU's symbol looks nothing like the evil M. In most forms, his symbol has the ends of the M swept out or curved outwards. So that just never really made sense.
I’ve been following your channel since your review of the 2013 Mazdaspeed3 and I absolutely love this this car. In fact, I actually own a 2016 Mazda3 (not modded yet, sadly 😭) But I absolutely believe they should bring back the Mazdaspeed cars. They have all wheel drive sorted out for the current 3, they have a turbo 2.5 4-cylinder in the big family SUV, the CX-9, if they could just find a way to put those two things together in one car, and tune it for performance, I think it could be a major game changer. Love your work, David! Keep on keepin’ on!
I messed up and got a 2018 sedan instead of the hatchback from my job; However it’s a fun car and good on gas mileage. Even in the base model 2.0 form, the car does feel great. You won’t be disappointed in this car unless you’re too tall for it.
Midnight Z31 okay I was looking at a 2015, 3sport, but wasn’t the fondest of hatchbacks so this is making me feel better that it doesn’t look too chunky lol
My wife has a 2014 sedan, which is even lighter and its pretty quick and even more nimble. I enjoy driving it when I'm not in my Miata. Which is good company to be in handling wise.
The “evil” M was from my view basically just to show that your car is modified, it was heavily present on modified first and second gen 3’s but now I think it’s just the trendy thing to do, I see it on all the rotted out rusty ones lol
I know, i'll stick an e-bay lip under another e-bay lip so i can have trouble getting over speed-bumps and in to driveways, and don't forget some generic e-bay fender flares!
Tuned with all that puts the skyactive to 190 maybe 200, wheel hp. 215 to 220 , for the 2.5 idk what's he talking g about. And don't see headers no were, trust me you they can't be overlooked lmao
I own the same car with 2.5 engine and manual transmission, its another car way faster than the 2.0. I also own a bmw 335i and believe me my mazda makes me smile every time I drive it. With the 2.5 the best I can describe, it's a peppy car. You can see 130mph quite often.
I own a 2007 mazda 3 mps.and i must say it have way more head and leg space then the latest versions.and the torq steer make it feel alive.remember torw steer is for real men!!!a real man want to battle a beast.
It’s nice to see people modifying Mazda 3’s. I have a 2005 Mazda 3 and I love it, it isn’t modified though. And I have been waiting and waiting for Mazda to finally make a Mazda 3 Speed again. And more rotary cars too lol.
agree they did it with the speed6 they could have done it to speed3. Only thing I can imagine is they wanted to keep the weight lower. Use to drive these alot working at Mazda dealer and they would get wheelspin in 3rd gear. fun car though.
This just came to mind for if he ever gets fully adjustable suspension: Spring rate: 275lb/in F 235lb/in R .5" - 1" lower possibly Alignment: Camber: -1.2⁰ F -0.7⁰ R Toe: -0.2⁰ F 0.0⁰ R Caster: +5.7⁰ As for dampers, possibly 10-25% stiffer than OEM. On front and rear compression and front rebound, 10% over OEM, rear rebound 12% over OEM. If that is a way to find out the OEM damper stiffness specs and find an adjustable damper to add that extra stiffness too.
My 2012 Skyactiv 3 has a couple of mods and has a couple other mods sitting at my house that need to be put on. Currents mods list are very basic and very short, just a CorkSport Cold air intake and cat-back exhaust. I have two gripes with the car, ones minor and ones major. My minor gripe is that it’s not manual (bought when I was 18 and hadn’t learned how to drive manual yet) and my major gripe is that it’s the sedan not the hatchback. Other than that I love the car. It has its gremlins (electrical issues in the interior, headlights flicker under braking, and a few dents 2 of which were my fault and one that was my mothers fault) but like I said I absolutely love Michaela the Mazda3. I’d love for David to review it one day but I know that’ll never happen so for now I’ll just settle for watching his awesome reviews!
Krea James This engine really can’t have a turbo, due to the insanely high compression ratio. If you did turbo it, your engine would probably go bye-bye.
i modify my mazda 3 2.5l. we have a whole community about turboing your Mazda on Facebook. what makes my gen 2 diffrent is that im port injected instead of the direct injection that the sky active. I was surprised to have found a whole community about boosting your Mazda either 2.0l,2.3l,2.5l
My mother in law has one of these and i absolutely love it, and because of the way mazda thinks and makes their cars its my favorite company ❤ but what i love about these is cars is that it handles awesome, it feels nice and luxurious but if you want itl do 1l over 22km
I would love to see Mazda make a car like this in a RWD format. Like a fat MX-5 (hatch or sedan) that can seat 4 people in a pinch, strictly a hard top (or sun/moon) some good trunk space. Something I can throw around in the corners but still fit people and stuff into.
Just bought a 2017 3rd Gen with the 2.5 and I'm very excited to start modifying. It looks amazing with the OEM lip kit. The only thing I don't like is the oem wing points downward? It's ugly as sin.
I have the same car. With intake exhaust and lowering Springs It has a hundred and eighty thousand miles on it. Original clutch Just brake pads so far. And I race the heck out of this thing. It just won't die.
