Really nice video. I think you have convinced me to do this. My Alexas are no longer working reliably and so for home automation this REALLY does look like the way to go. I wish this was compatible with the Alexa hardware as then I would just shift them over. Thanks again for the hard work and well made video!~

I'm thinking about ordering a few boards from PCBWay, but I am not sure which options I need to choose. I assume if I don't want to do all the work, I should get the PCB+Assembly. However, I don't know if I need Edge connectors or not. Also if any of the other options need to be adjusted. Are there instructions to make sure I order the right parts?

Thanks for the guide! This could really take off once we can connect it to chatgpt through home assistant.

Its already possible, check the Extended ChatGPT and LlamaConversation Extensions available via HACS ;-)

@@lbsfilm Exactly. What i'm wondering, and i don't think it's possible, is to play music on it ? For example, with "Music Assistant" or "Spotify" extensions

@@jacquesdupontd also possible... but only with a different config. Using the external esphome_audio component the media_player is now supported even on the IDF framework... but I have not tested spotify, only mp3s so far...

I just recently did the same install and it is much more responsive than the M5 Atom's or the ESP32 S3-Box. Solid video! Have you messed with the casting side of the board/speaker combo? I would love to still be able to use the speaker to actually play music.
@lbsfilm

Hey, no not yet... but I am thinking of it. One thing I found was that the media_player entity still works fine on home-assistent side even when using ESPIF, at least for TTS... could not make it play music yet.... need to play with it more yet...

is two of three good enough for recognition in a whole room? As far as i remember the third microphone was to sensor the room, while the two focus at the near, even to count back some background noise. Actually it is quite interesting. if it would fit in an wall-jack to replace unneeded lightswitches /-buttons it would be awesome.
@lbsfilm
@lbsfilm 2 месяца назад
Definitly good enough, there are more aspects, like how good the software is processing it, it works really well in my testing so far. With the new microWakeWord it gets even better but that is still a bit work in progress, I have a nice working test setup though

Could you give me some input on how it performs after a few months? I'm currently talking with pcbsolutions to get my pcb's for the project but would like to make sure it's worth destroying my nest mini over.

Depending what you are looking for, it works great but has a few minor inconveniences and featurewise stuff like timers and a few other essentials are kinda missing

Hi all. Thanks for the video. Does anyone think this could work in an Amazon Echo. If we first assume it fits inside?
@lbsfilm
@lbsfilm 3 месяца назад
I am pretty sure that is not a great idea. One would need to design a custom board for that device
@KarlMiller
@KarlMiller 4 месяца назад
How much does the populated board cost? Does it still play music?... can you still "cast" music to it?
@lbsfilm
@lbsfilm 3 месяца назад
So you can order them only in batches of 5, and that will be around 200$ from pcbway right now You can theoretically use them for music but it all comes down how you configure them with homeassistant. Casting will also not work out of the box without more setup on homeassistant side

Any coding to provide an auditory response after using wake word?
@lbsfilm
@lbsfilm 4 месяца назад
Hey, yeah I am still tinkering around with that, I am almost certain that its possible, but I have not made it work yet
@Mlo99
@Mlo99 4 месяца назад
@@lbsfilmawesome. An auditory response would make it easier to not have to look for the lights to indicate it’s listening. Interesting enough, none of the demos on HA site or their vids show an auditory response when listening.

Since 2024.5 came out and I updated the esphome firmware on my Onjou devices, they no longer respond. Have you noticed any issues with yours since 2024.5 was released?
@lbsfilm
@lbsfilm Месяц назад
Hey, I literally updated all my devices to the version before yesterday, as .5 was released today... have not tested yet. Sometimes you might need to clear the builds with esphome clean your.yaml And then retry... I had some weirdness on previous updates as well... eventually it always started working at some point... also try readding in homeassistant. I will upgrade to .5 in the next days... lets see
@lbsfilm

actually, .5 is not out yet as far as I can see ? esphome.io/changelog I am definitely running latest homeassistant on my side and it works fine
