@@christianjimenez5175 Yes, but mine was the opposite, it would stall when I stopped, like at a red light unless I shifted into neutral and held on the gas to keep the idle up. It was the idle air control valve. Cheap and easy fix.
I never had a problem with the PS. I know you said the belt was tight, but what about the condition of the belt? The belt could still be slipping if it's glazed and shiny on the ribbing underneath, or a pulley could be worn causing it to slip. Can't think of any other reason it would go out only when it's raining. If it still looks good I would start by flushing the fluid. If that doesn't do it, the pump may just need to be replaced altogether. What year Galant do you have?
I will actually be making a video in the future on exactly what I do to detail the exterior and interior to keep the car in tip top shape. As soon as it stops raining here I'll try to get the videos done.
$1,000 of that money I spent modding went to wheels and tires alone, so if you factor out the wheels then only about a thousand for all the other stuff. They're great cars to mod, and the 2.4's are very easy to work on. Good luck with your new Galant!
Love the clean galant, yeah agreeing with one of the comments, dropping the rear was a great idea, although i had to roll the fenders because i put 225/45/17 on the car, but for the best drop of front look for a coil kit, the tein springs just dont do it. But i do agree with the tailights getting old, the stock ones look alot better, personal opinion
I don't have a garage either, and I deal with sub-arctic Pennsylvania winters and salt covered roads. Twice a year I do a complete process with the paint that involves hand washing and drying, claybaring, compounding, waxing and polishing....takes about 7 hours from start to finish. Other than that, I usually just wash it once every week or two (especially in the winter) with a high pressure washer. I try to take care of my stuff as best I can.
Hey do you know if it's fine to use stp automatic transmission fluid mercon v (for use with certain Ford vehicles) with the 2003 Mitsubishi gallant? Will it mess up the car or would I be fine?
5 speed swap from an eclipse, then turbo it. Then add some bolt on's such as exhaust. When all the performance mods are done the ECU could also be reflashed and the speed governor disengaged. Don't forget about removing excess weight from the car as well (and that's free). If $ REALLY isn't an object, there are guys that have swapped evo motors into their Galants and made them sleepers. Check out the forums at thegalantcenter (dot) org they can really help you out!
Hows she running today? I have the same car just got it last year its in pretty good shape. I want to dress it up and slap a body kit on it I just don't know a damn thing about cars.
It's an 03 and it only has 60,000 miles on it. I've had the car 5 years and not once has it had any problems. No rust, solid car, decent gas mileage....so what's to trade up?
They are wired directly to the battery so they can be on even when the car is turned off. I mounted a toggle swich below my fog light button and ran the wires through the firewall to the battery. I also used an inline fuse.
Love This Video It Shows How You take a simple galant nd hhook it up fresh how many cynlinders is yours my is 4 but its hooked up fresh like urs im starting in the enjine know got everything done on the outside keep makin videos nd great job buddy keep intouch theres alot off cool kids in here with galants just like us ;)
I have a weapon R intake and I'm thinking of a flowmaster exhaust with a magnaflow converter. I need new roaters and brake pads. Wheredid you get yours?
@TELLO3675 Thanks, I appreciate it. I'm on the forums at thegalantcenter (dot) org under the username Boochieboy. My Galant is the 2.4 liter 4 cyl ES. Only has 60,000 miles on it even though it's 9 years old (I got the car when it had 43,000 on it). I'm going to be uploading some how-to modding videos on it soon so stay tuned! These are great cars, I love mine! Thanks for the comment!
Where I live we get lots of rain, and the roads have deep potholes in them. I didn't want to worry about the filter getting soaked being so close to the ground with a cold air system, and having to use a bypass valve/filter and all that, so I went short ram. Just my preference....and with a heat shield installed anyways, the (power) differences between my ram setup and a full cold air intake are not great enough to matter to me.
@ricosuavemartoni I used to watch WWE religiously, but no so much anymore. I went to Wrestlemania 23 in Detroit a few years back...floor seats! Punk's the man, and I like his entrance music.
Don't listen to the haters homeboy..I have a 99 GTZ with 75k on the dash. I drove it off the lot in 2000 when I traded in my 97 Galant LS. Just don't spend too much on motor mods for the 2.4. Just drop in a 6G72 or 6G74.
I got the rotors through a vendor on thegalantcenter (dot) org. Only paid $80 total for the rotors since members get a discount. The pads were just a set of oem Akebono ceramic pads from Advance Auto Parts...I think $60.
I got the Gauges a few years ago for around $100 I think. It's funny you mention the Megan catback....that's the next mod on my list. I actually just passed up a brand new one for $300 because I'm broke atm though...lol.
I honestly can't remember...somewhere online a few years back. I actually took them off and have them up for sale on thegalantcenter for $80 shipped. If you're interested PM me...they're in good condition with no scratches.
You should also check out the forums at thegalantcenter (dot) org Those guys know everything there is to know about Galants, they would be able to help you figure it out. I'm on there under the username boochieboy
what mods could i put onto my es that would make it very fast. i have the same model and i am just looking for ideas. Could you give me some suggestions and money isnt a restricting factor
@markysaoy As the car was in the video I had about $2,000 in parts into it....$1,000 of that money was for the wheels and tires. You should join the forums at thegalantcenter (dot) org there's lots of good info and ideas on there and you can get discounts on some parts. Lots of ideas for mods you can do cheaply or free too. I'm on there under the username boochieboy.
Hey do u mind posting the link for the taillights?? been look for them for ever, I already searched ebay for Elegante, and Alrezzas and still haven't found them.
I dot the DC bar at andysautosport (dot) com a few years back.....it's the one for the 00-05 eclipse. That G2 caliper paint is awesome. Two coats brushed on-it's been 4 years through salt snow and rain and they still look great.
How did you do the gauge swap? Did you buy the s7 gauge for 99-01 galant and just bought a 99-01 bezel to make it fit on your 03 galant? let me know because im trying to do this to my 03 galant as well
There's really not much out there as far as aftermarket lights are concerned, unless they are custom made. You could always get the earlier 99-01 USDM tail lights, or the JDM tail lights. I was thinking about keeping my stock 02-03 tails and just blacking them out with dark vinyl.
If you want to stay with the 2.4 I would just rebuild it or drop in a 2.4 Eclipse motor which is the same. All the performance mods you can add to the 2.4 still are not going to beat just dropping in a stock V6 Galant engine, unless you're going to turbo the 2.4 that is. I've heard people doing Sonata or Optima engines in Galants with little effort, and of course Evo motors too. I had about $2000 extra in the car when this video was made, half of that however was wheels and tires.
+Melvin Capule This reply is probably way to late, but I had the same issue. First check your fuses to be sure your still receiving the 12v constant from the battery. My issue for the speedometer was becasue of a wiring job gone bad with the radio. I know that sounds dumb and they shouldnt be linked, but for me it was. There was one wire that had an intermittent 4.5 to 5 volts running through it and it was grounding through the radio. For me the wire was a solid yellow with a black stripe. I cut it and taped it off and did not have issues since.
And as far as the rotors are concerned, if you think drilled and/or slotted rotors are only for so called "high performance applications" then you're the "tard." ANY car can experience brake fade, and could benefit from upgraded drilled/slotted rotors. I don't put parts on MY car to impress YOU......I forgot more about cars than you altogether know about cars.
