On this MODX/Montage Minute I show you how to add effects to your sounds. Enjoy! Stay in touch: www.domsigalas.com / dom_sigalas #yamahamontage #yamahamodx #addeffectsonthemodx
I am so grateful for your incredibly lucid, informative and helpful videos on the MODX. It's making learning not only easy, but playing that much more enjoyable. Keep them coming. Thank you so much.
WHY OH WHY I saw this only today? Thanks to crappy YT algorithm, which delayed your movie on the way to me!!! WOW. Dom, this is superb, as always you nailed it - and what the hell happened to make you to show us those so needed hint??! This is for us like our bread and butter, our fresh air, some freeDOM finally!!! GIVE US MORE! Seriously, I love your videos, and I learned soo much from them, in regard to wonderful montage. Please, do more! :) Things I like to know (not necessarily about montage itself, but also including some theory) are numerous. Here you have some examples of what I would love to see: - you can enter some random edit screen, and EXPLAIN EVERY SINGLE item there with examples how they work - or you can just tell US how to assign all knobs and how to do this quickly, ad-hoc, - I wish to see how to edit music already recorded, namely how to cut/paste/overdub it with 3.0 OS or later, - how to record my own cough/fart/sneeze and make an instrument from it, - how to create repeating evolving effect similar to helicopter sound, - how to bind super knob with other gauges so it controls them as a master, - how to create own beats and percussion fill-ins, - how to create some music from multiple instruments not using any DAW on montage entirely, - It will be nice if you explain what to do to avoid double click while typing on touch screen - my montage screen seems to be too sensitive. - I would LOVE to see how to produce simple, but nice sounds from scratch. So far you've done how to make few of them, but we need MOAR! :) In your every video you are telling something valuable, so it's a dream to watch you more. PLEASE, consider at least me as a hardcore fan of Montage and do some of those basic tuts for me! I bet lots of us will benefit much from your lessons! And thank you for all of your positive energy! Always nice to watch always worthy! Now, get to the work! :)
Hello Dom, Can you please make a tutorial on how to make good distortion sounds and adding effects like slurs, etc. to it! That will be really helpful. Moreover I would request you to show how to make accompany like drum patterns and different pickups while playing any song. Thankyou
This is so awesome. Thank you. I always felt like the on board reverb was not producing enough. I didn’t know you could go into the actual performance and change it there. Wow mind blown.
Great tutorial Dom. I really want to appreciate you for the effort. I have a MODX8 Keyboard and I have been battling with how I can add a vibrato effect to an EP sound. I'd be super grateful for your help
Great vid! Can you do one on how to assign various values to the SW buttons. For instance, on a Rhodes patch how to assign a custom vibrato to the mod wheel and how to assign chorus to SW 1 and phaser to SW2
Dom - this is really nice...thank you! I am new to modx and struggling with one thing quite a bit...I am trying to bring in a external world percussion rhythm pattern...my goal is to use that for the entire song duration just like a regular pattern...however - I cant do it...I am able to bring the sample in and assign it to awm part...but the looping doesnt work...the sampme stops right after the length of it...although I have loop on, arp on etc...any idea what I am doing wrong? Your help is very much appreciated..thanks
In case you're still looking for ideas... This is a splendid howto video, but what I haven't seen anywhere is a review of the built-in effects themselves. Are they good enough to replace dedicated pedals?
Great tutorial. Something is driving me nuts. If you pull up the sound, for example, ProgressiveRK Lead. It has a huge digital delay on it that I don't want. I started poking around trying to figure out how to get rid of it because neither Ins A or B is a delay. It turned out to be the VarSend. I set that to 0 and it gave me what I wanted. However, I can't figure out how to define the Variation effect! Edit: I was going to delete this stupid post, but decided to leave it in case it helps someone. You go to the Performance Home, then Edit, then Effect. There is a tab there for Variation where you can define which effect is used. I was stuck inside the Part Editing, not Performance Editing where the global stuff lives.
Bobos Curse I was going to respond to this :) the mating thing to take away from this is that inserts are related to Parts where Reverb sends and Variation sends are global performance effects just like the Master FX and EQ. As you figured it out :) 🤘
"I was going to delete this stupid post, but decided to leave it in case it helps someone." Today that person was me, I just wanted to add delay to all 4 piano voices in one of the piano patches. Thank you for leaving your comment up and editing it with the solution!
Hi Dom and thanks for all your MODX/Montage videos. They're a pleasure to watch and a good guidance through the operational things for the instruments as well as the technichal synthesis side of life. Can you do a vocoder video for the MODX/Montage? I watched a video from @Moessieurs where he did some explanations on the settings but it would be great to have a video on the different sound types producing different vocoder characteristics (square vs saw / leads vs pads etc). Which ones are best for robo-vox and which ones are best for talk-box effect? Looking forward to it. Keep up all the good work. Thanks again! All the best. Sigthor
Thanks for this nice Video! Very helpful. Do you know if it is possible to activate and deactivate an effect during a live performance by assigning it to a certain knob or a foot switch?
Hei, thanks for all the videos. They are really helpfull. Maybe you can do a video with using the modx with another keyboard controller. I see many people asking about it, and i am interested too. What are the possibilities.
Hey Dom, I got a problem and maybe you can help me out. I got a modx8 and when I use my sustain pedal with the piano sounds I get a really harsh and sharp sound on my reverb. Can you tell me how to fix that? Thanks for your great content.
Can you make a demo video on the MODX showing how to to create a song step by step using the scenes, style parts, drums, bass, etc,, arps, rhythms, patterns sequencer, etc?
I’ve a question. I’m new to the Modx. One of the things that like is that the sounds come with a lot of heavy reverb on them. My question is how do I remove the effects from the sound that I don’t want reverb on? The problem is is that when I remove effects a user sound is created that is identical to the original sound minus the reverb. Is there a way to remove the reverb without creating a new performance sound? And what is the process with saving the edited sound?
So at 1:29 you said the Var send in this case is Delay. How do you determine what that is, and what the parameters are? I have a Motif XS and in the Effects section you can add a few delays with settings for wet/dry, tempo and feedback. How do I accomplish that here if all I get is a “Var Send”?
Can you do a video on DAW remote and how it can be used for a live on stage performance For covering up absence of guitarist in the troop which is to covered by the keyboard player from prerecorded DAW track
@Dom Sigalas Hi Dom. first of all, thank you for nice and positive videos about Montage and MoDX. I have one simple question. How to save single sound from performance as separate sound? I tried do that with renaming it in the @Edit@ section of the sound. But, I can't find this sound, if I want to add it to new performance! Can you explain it detailed?
How to undo an action without losing other unsaved settings? Say I change a value and then decide I want to revert to the original value but forget what that value was.
i would like to see how do you use scenes properly and also using the tone,eq,and arp knob correctly as well as faders when it comes to being activated because sometimes it doesnt work(faders and knobs)
MG Rizzello of course you can-very good point! Instead of editing the part (e.g. Part 1) you just need to edit the Common parameters. There you will find the Reverb and Variation send parameters as well as the Master FX and the Master Eq which apply to the entire performance rather than the part. Hope this helps ;)
I recently did a show with one of a new keyboard artist who owned a MODX. I own Montage. Surprisingly, during our rehearsals I noticed that the sound quality and his output were terrifically enhanced on his keyboard when connected to the same keyboard amp with EQ levels flat. I checked his Performances and they were layered just like the way I have done. Example his String Section so heavy that the MODX brought rich, nice colorful ambience on the stage, whereas my Montage was not bringing the ambience on a simple preset performance. So what am I missing here that disappoints and upsets me? That gentleman was not revealing his trade secrets, should I consider any master EQ?
Thanks Dom for response. Unfortunately I don’t have the sample audio. Even if I did it won’t sound good to evaluate settings recorded on an iPhone. Bad Mister was helping me. But I don’t think he was able to understand the problem fully... Whatever sounds good on bose headphones, studio monitors or mixer with my Montage sounds awful on Roland KC 550 or 200 keyboard amp. A simple PA monitor connected to MODX sounded so rich in a closed room, while my high investment Montage is unable to compete with my friend’s sound output. Now I don’t know if the TS output on MODX versus TRS output on Montage makes any difference as Bad Mister is guessing. I can be reached at vindsoft@yahoo.com
It would have been a cool feature if the effects would have been designed to look like guitar pedals instead of just parameters inside of a box. Give people something nice to look at
