Glad i came across this video, because most you dont see videos like this post often on youtube. Ive always wondered how i can make my montage sound even better and i never gave a damn about arpeggio. But thanks to you, i can now get super creative. Thanks man!
Ive got missing notes on the arp but the recording is just fine. When I first did the arp, it was in the correct pitch but rerecorded and made it 7 measures and its dropped pitch and has notes missing. 6 months and this thing may become 1800 dollar target practice soon. I miss the old boards.
@@narfsounds I figured out if I hit store at every step, it worked. I'll try a new one tomorrow. Crazy but true. Thanks for the inquiry. Make sure you get your root note correct too!
Thank you. When hitting another note, the current arp sequence is being interrupted and a new one starts. How can I fix that? I want to hit the note and trigger the new arp sequence after that cycle, like you do e.g. in 8:30. Thanks!
GREAT. I tried to make arpeggios myself too, but did not choose OrgNotes. Name suggests that only original notes (no matter which part of keyboard you play) are played. THANK THANK THANK YOU.
THANK YOU!!!!! I've been banging my head against the wall for the last day trying to figure out how to incorporate the pattern sequencer into a sound (with two pattern scenes), but also have it not play a pattern when I don't want one. By assigning an arpeggio to specific parts and then muting them (or not) via scenes, I was able to work around the possibility of having to record a pattern with no audible notes, if that's even possible.
No no no noooo when I heard little respect by depeche mode I cringed a bit xD but nice video, I'm learning synthesizer, I'm a pianist and been on normal keyboards, but now I bought a Modx7 and I'm about to join a band and I'm kinda nervouse cause I don't know a lot of synthesis ;-; but learning thx for the help man!
aren't there any videos showing how to do a step record arpeggio , like the way arpeggio used to be defined a long time ago using the chord triad notes moving at different intervals? This is a music recording video.
It doesn’t work like a traditional programmable step sequencer. An arpeggio on the Montage is derived from a midi pattern. I’ve done it using external gear feeding the midi data into the Montage.
I need help with the following question in Montage: I created a user arpeggio in the range of 2 octaves, with the sequence C3-E3-G3-C4-G4-C4-G3-E3. But what I want is that, when assigning this arp in a performance, the sequence is triggered when I play only the chord (C-E-G), like what we do on arranger keyboards. For me it's not working, because the sequence only sounds correctly if I play exactly all 8 notes that make up the sequence, in the range of octaves. If I play the chord in its triad, only the three notes played sound, repeating the last one until completing the number of notes recorded in the arpeggiator. Is there any way to resolve this?
Get rich out of this? haha... I wish! These things do take a lot of time and effort to put together and post. Most of my videos have been rendered ineligible for monetization. I guess the other option is to make these available as private paid tutorials. I've removed the non-skippable and banner ads.
A song from Scandal called 'Goodbye To You' has a beginning bass sequence with the following chords (Am, D, F#, E). I need to make that into a sequence or a arpeggio where I can either hold the chord (preferred) or at least one key. Any idea how to do this?
Hello Nafr, pls explain how to import to the drum kit custom user arpeggio...i have made an arpeggio and its saved but how can i import to the performance to use it?? regards
Thank you a lot. I was trying to record something. I couldn't manage to record this. It was very fast, complicated, and I had to do it for quite some time. This helped a lot.
Hey Narf! I have one question, where do u change custom arpeggio velocity after saving it? For example i'm in a band and we are doing this cover, i created the arp in the normal song bpm, but we gonna play it a bit faster, how do i change the velocity after creating it? I just see the velocity change in the pattern record screen Keep the amazin work!
Super helpful! I wish Yamaha themselves would do more in-depth demos just like this, which are so much easier to get your head around than their super technical manuals.
Read the Yamaha description by Bad Mister... horrible! Quantum physician, not able to explain anything to "normal" people. So THANK YOU VERY MUCH for this video.
Can someone explain when an ostinato became known as an arpeggio? An ostinato is a repeating pattern, which is what this video covers. An arpeggio is a broken chord, such as C-E-G where those notes repeat. Is there a way to automate an actual arpeggio on this keyboard?
Back in the day, synths could only generate actual arpeggios like what you described. They have since become more advanced and are able to store actual patterns but the terminology has remained the same. Yes, you can automate an actual arpeggio on this keyboard.
@@narfsounds Thanks! Do you have a video for that? Or can you tell me how? My background is playing a wooden piano, so I know almost nothing about electronics, effects, envelopes, etc. I really don't understand the terminology. I just turn it on, and I play it.
@@narfsounds The Arpeggio functionality, as advanced ist is on the Modx, would be quite interesting if the Arpeggios were editable step-by-step. There are only a few machines on the market allowing that. Recording an Arp in realtime, though I can do it, makes no sense for me. The Mininova and now Uno Synth pro approach is much more versatile (though I have sync problems with the Uno). You have 8 or 16 step buttons where you can rythmize your Arp. Everything else is just counter-intuitive.
Thanks! Very well done teaching wise, I had to adjust the volume between your voice and the keyboard because your voice was unintelligible when level set to keyboard. Just FYI. Still an awesome video. Thanks!
nice, can you split the keyboard, so the chord will work on left side only, like a regulard keaboard, and right had play a music with a different song like pinao, flute?
There's one thing that puzzles me. How the built-in arpeggios are created. I claim it's not possible to replicate them all. The problem is the way how notes are replayed if you play less ones the pattern contains originally. For piano you then hear double notes that sounds kind of weird. It seems simply not possible to create an arpeggio that works exactly like the ones Yamaha provided. Make the test: record a preset arpeggio, save the data as a user one and play it. As soon as you play less notes simultanously, it doesn't work like the original one. This is valid for arpeggios for the type 'normal'.
@@narfsounds I know about these settings but couldn't replicate many factory patterns though. Using several tracks with different arpeggio types didn't result better. It remains a secret. Try this by yourself, would like to know what you experience!
Excellent video. Can you please explain how to create non-note arps to control things like filter, pan, etc? They are mentioned in the manual but no where explained how to create them.
Same procedure but instead of playing notes, just record knob, slider or other controller movements that affect particular CC mesages when recording your arp.
SUBSCRIBED !! Thanks so much !! I was able to create the Radio Ga Ga Arp. Only problem I’m having is when I add the Arp Performance as a Part to the Song performance ( that has the Parts for the chords ) I can’t play them both at the same time. In other words I can play either the Arp Part or the chord Parts but not together. And I have them all turned on. What am I missing ? Thanks !
You'll have to go back to your arp settings and see how you've set them up. The arp has certain behaviours and you can specify whether the sound plays only when the Arp button is selected. You should be able to play chords and arps together.
your sound performances are great, but can you make a pack of modern popular cover songs too?it would be great to have a modern pack, or tell me how much will cost per song if we wanna order a pack of our choosen songs..regards
I'm happy to take suggestions for a pack with more current songs. I do find that it has become difficult to find songs that bands keep in their repertoire. I find that these songs get played for a couple of months and get removed from their setlist. I don't do custom packs though but you can send me a list at narf@narfsounds.com if you want.
