Moe Explains The Joke: "Flagpole Jitters" (Three Stooges, 1956)

In the 1949 Three Stooges comedy "Hokus Pokus"...
...we observe the boys making breakfast in their own unique way.
This includes Moe scrambling a few eggs by cracking them into a coffee grinder...
...and grinding them up. Thus, "scrambling" them.
When the same footage was reused in the 1956 remake "Flagpole Jitters"...
...the studio was afraid we wouldn't get the joke.
So, after Moe cracks the eggs into the coffee grinder...
...they dub in his voice saying: "Now I'll scramble 'em!"
And after all these years, we finally get the joke!
I neither own nor claim any rights to this material. Just having some fun with it. Thanks for watching!

There's a similar moment in "Commotion on the Ocean". In a reused scene from "Dunked in the Deep," the Stooges are eating salami on a ship and it's making Moe and Larry seasick. In the original footage, Larry says something like "I wish I hadn't eaten so much, I don't feel so good". Then, just seconds later, as he's walking away from the camera, they dubbed in a new bit of dialogue: "oh! I wish I hadn't eaten so much salami!" And, it's like... yeah, no shit. We understand what's happening, Jules White. It baffles me.

@@tak-475 There's also the hilarious dubbing in "Rip, Sew and Stitch", when Larry is taking the pants off of "mannequin" Terry Hargan (Bill Brauer). In the original ("Sing a Song...") it was a long-ish scene with no sound, so in the re-make, Moe and Shemp dubbed this crazy dialogue with Vernon Dent (off-camera)..."You don;t have to buy anything you want..just buy what we tell you." Not quite the same thing, since they weren't "explaining" anything like we see here, just covering a dead-spot visually with dubbed dialogue. There's lots of hilarious examples of this (Crash Goes the Hash: "What's the idea of tearin' that turkey apart?" or GI Wanna Home "First you jump on me from a tree, then you give me an egg shampoo!", etc etc)

A similar thing happened in another short, I think it was “Back to the Woods”, where the Stooges were using a branch to fling objects at Indians. Curly gave Moe what he though was pineapple to which Moe respond, “Pineapple? Wahoo! Tis a Hornet’s nest.” However, when Moe said “Tis a Hornet’s nest”, you can see that his lips don’t move, so it was dubbed over. Most likely because the studio didn’t think the audience would know what the object Curly brought to Moe really was.

Unfortunately Flagpole Jitters was one of Shemp's last appearances with the Stooges, as he would die several months after its filming.😭😭😭😭😭😭
