Like you, I also only care about my own listening pleasure, therefore the MoFi speakers wouldn't necessarily be my first choice. But I have eliminated the issue of speaker height by having a customized barber chair in the sweet spot. It has been altered to enable it to have a two foot variation in order to bring my ears to the optimum level for whatever stand mount speaker I have. I am surprised that the so-called audiophile experts from TAS and Stereophile haven't figured this out over the decades.
@@scientificaudiophile Oh my no, you can't take the chance that the used chairs may have been contaminated by heathens who would not or could not appreciate the ecstasy of a Diane Bish performance. This could significantly impact the quality of the bass range which would be devastating for organ music. They must be new and unsullied.
SourcePoint 8 may also be a good choice for those of us who mill about our rooms doing tasks while music is playing. It’s a bummer if the frequency response is only agreeable with one’s head mounted strictly in a vice at the optimal position.
Important point in listening first, measuring after to rule out bias. I think it's quite fun writing down what I think I hear and correlate my notes to the measurements for learning purposes. The other way around you are bound to listen for the things you have seen in your measurements.
We have to get more reviews out of you, Clockwork Burnt Orange, your guidelines for reviewing a product are the best around. All I see everywhere...MEASURENTS MEASUREMENTS MEASUREMENTS!! Would love to hear more reviews, personally, of Amps, Pre's, DACs, tone controls at the $500 to $1000 zone give or take. What is your favorite tube amp? Do you even like them? etc.... Have a great day.
@@namorzynniezytkrtani1301 c'mon man, that's just a ridiculous statement. First off when one starts making claims that something is better or best is subjective... it's different for everyone. I'm not knocking this review, it was great. He shared his subjective thoughts with some objective data as well. Much better than a lot of that nonsense most RU-vid "reviewers" provide. I was only saying, For Me, that Erin's review gives me a pretty good indication of how this Mofi would work in my system/room. Actually, after watching Erin's video & this one I feel I have a good understanding of this speaker. I wasn't trying to disrespect your favorite reviewer..both reviews were great in my opinion. Erin's is pretty thorough as far as objective data.
@@NosEL34Haha! Agreed, but you are maybe new to SA and if not, maybe new to comments under an SA video, where sarcasm and mockery of audiophile silliness reigns supreme. "My guy's golden ears are more golden than those on your guy!" That's basically the joke you maybe missed. Plus, it's true, nobody is as good as the SA, jeje. You might enjoy finding the earlier videos where his hearing prowess is revealed. : )
@@katebloggs8243 right on ..thank you for that, I get it. I'm not a dedicated watcher of SA but I have watched numerous videos here pertaining to things of interest to me. I like his style & find him more credible or more agreeable to how I think & look at certain things. Plus a sense of humor. I apologize if I got overly defensive...maybe my sugar was low when I wrote that. Sometimes you have to have your head on a swivel in the comment section..never know what's going to get thrown at you.
I got to heat the Source Point 10s at a demo hosted by Andrew Jones. They're the best concentric speakers I heard and the 10s give you more low bass then the 8s of course. I know alot about music history but I guess I need to watch that documentary about The Dung Beatles. I think I heard something about some lady, Ohno Yoko ruining the band
Great review, SA. Fun and informative, as always. I considered the MoFi 10s when changing my main speakers recently, but the industrial looking design and relative lack of sensitivity (for my needs) put me off.
Obviously a different class but one reason I keep a pair of kef q100 by my tv is that it’s great for everyone on the sofa, not just whoever is dead centre.
Was at THE SHOW in n Costa Mesa. Andrew Jones gave history of most of his prior designs and inspirations. He did confirm that speakers like sourcepoint 8 should be toed in or out about ten degrees
When I want to raise the height of my floor standers, I use bricks and a pile of old stereophile magazines. Works a treat. For more audiophile tips and tricks stay tuned 😂
What a coincidence! I was at a big Arts Festival the other day, and there was a painting on display of a dung beetle. He was standing upright, dressed in a black leather jacket with chains, like some hoodlum from a dark alley, and he had a switchblade knife pulled out & open in his right hand, and the caption read "Give me your sh*t." I once had a pet dung beetle. They like cow dung the best, but they will feast on human waste if nothing else is available. Like if the potato chips run out and all that's left are rice cakes. He was good friends with my pet stink bug. He never did his stink spray thing even once. I might have given him more credit than he deserves though, as after he passed on, I read where only some stink bugs can spray you with stink spray. Stink bugs stick to apples; they love them, they don't go for anything more earthy. They value their piece of apple so much, that if you drop a stink bug from a height, they will continue clinging onto their cherished piece of apple, instead of letting it go to increase the chance of a safe landing. Stink bugs get a bad rap. Stink bugs make good pets and are not a pest, even though they're classified as a pest. Your cat must have said a bad swear word for you to call it a dirty pussy. Didn't it like the Mofi? When I was a toddler I started saying bad swear words. No one knew what to do to get me to stop. I enjoyed MB y cussing like a stink bug enjoyed apple. What finally worked and got me to stop? They had a relative tell me " If you don't stop swearing, we are going to have to drop you in the lake." It's good to know that the Mofi speaker doesn't stink. They also make turntables and cartridges I think. If they manufacture or begin manufacturing amplifiers; someone could say they are playing a true complete Mofi system, from the speakers all the way down to the cartridge and even the lp. That might be a FIRST in audio. In a RU-vid interview, a Mofi company guy said that their digital recorder that they copy master tapes with, has a sampling rate of over 100 million times per second. I figured this one out mathematically. That's way more than the number of times a helicopter's blades rotate in a trip from L.A. to New York. And in one second!
Thanks for the information. I don’t like stink bugs - they stink if I squish them. Dung Beetles can be left in your bathroom and they do all the work, unlike my mom.
I tried that cleaning the bathroom thing with my pet dung beetle. I found that he couldn't keep up with me. I consume a lot of Tex Mex and soda pop. At least he had the perfect owner! In a race the stink bug will usually win over the dung beetle; they are closers. When they both passed on within a short span of each other, I felt an emptiness, like there was something missing, and I just had to replace them. I got ripped off by a guy who sold me some Dragon Flies from his garden. Dragon Flies only live a matter of days. An unbelievably short lifespan What a Ripoff! They passed before I could really get to know them. That guy now rests in peace. Not over his manipulative dealings, but he fell on a pitchfork they say. In old black & white TV shows that's how a lot of people went. That and quicksand. Whatever became of quicksand. How dramatic was tha!. Kids who watched tv often, were scared to death of quicksand. Today will likely be the worst day for future high end audio sales. It's a little known fact that high end audio sales suffer greatly from audiophile gambling. Today is the last leg of the triple crown races; The Belmont Stakes. Tonight the Stanley Cup playoff finals will start. Especially bad news for high end audio dealers in Canada, as most people lose at gambling on point spreads. And the NBA finals have just begun on Thursday and most gamblers will lose there too; mostly on the point spread. Gambling affecting high end audio sales is not mentioned very often. It's a real problem for some people. I know one guy who is an awful gambler and has the worst luck imaginable. Due to decades of continued losing on bets, he still hasn't been able to upgrade his 1967 Rectilinear High Boy Speakers, bought in 1967, or his wooden tonearm or his Shure V15 Type 1 cartridge. I think he still uses whatever came before tubes for an amp.
The woofer material surface makes me remind of my old Wharfedale 435...quite some money to spend on bookshelf speakers...I suggest you to try some middle east spice rice with lamb, and a cup of adani tea (cardamom)
I've had the middle east spice rice with lamb before, but not the tea. I'll try the combination. It sounds delicious. How much wine do you put in the tea?
Concentric needs toe in because the soundstage falls apart straight forward, but right at you is too intense. Point them left and right of you shoulders as a thumb rule and experiment from there. I have some Tannoy 637 that could use an upgrade to the crossover parts.
If Dr Evil would have asked for $1 million to not blow up the moon in 1964, how much would it cost in 2024 to save poetry forever? That's right: One Jillion dollars. Same formula. Use it to impress party guests and visiting audio snobs.
I have to disagree with your comment that you cannot change the height of your speaker stands, some of them you can like my Atacama SLX400 which they are now because I purchased them as SLX500's, yes that's right. I called up the company and asked to purchase the 400's legs and they sold me them directly, yes you read that right, directly. So it is possible and you can tell pussy-cat that as well. Peace out S.A.
