@@aashimtaggar1800I don’t think you got the joke. He was saying that Morbius was ahead of its time because it was a bad marvel movie before marvel movies were bad.
@@slugmaballs1444 They couldn’t ever get close to that good, people genuinely waited 1+ years for it. To me it ends the story and everything after is a money grab
For real. My friend texted me to ask if I had any interest in seeing The Marvels, and somewhat to my own surprise, my answer was "No." I love movies, I love going to the theater, and I love Marvel comics, but this movie just seems emblematic of Marvel's incredibly confused direction right now.
Right? That's so sad, because I believe that this is the story of most people here. Much like you, me and my friends have always met up and went to see the new MCU movie, not only that, but we talked about it months before it released, being so hyped for it and then had an awesome time in the cinema when it finally released, but now not a single person is interested in the new garbage that's coming out.
Me too! My wife and I were bitching about how badly we WANT to go to see Marvel movies again, we just can’t bring ourselves to be disappointed any more. Loki on the other hand, was a fucking master piece and I cannot understand why they aren’t doing more dope shit like that series.
I love how the entire reason for Darbin’s villainy is just that they are too stubborn to move. They clearly have a fleet, and presumably enough fuel to get somewhere important.
To move their entire planet? I understand at the end where she could have let carol restart their sun but its not like she herself could move an entire planets population and even then where? They would just be like the skrulls all over again
@@juandavidlopezmartinez-fq6ij I get that, but - the planet the skrulls were on would be a good start. They could easily have pooled resources instead of pushing the skrulls into a corner and evacuating the already breathable air for themselves. And there are likely hundreds of thousands of other planets with breathable atmospheres or accepting individuals. Combine this with the fact that the entire civilisation doesn’t need to be in one place and you’ve got an easy evacuation plan for somebody who doesn’t just want revenge and is phrasing it like help.
@@trifectumart is that not what they were doing at the start with the peace talks? But then they assumed the skrulls called Captain Marvel on them. Either way if Marvel doesn't think they can find the Skrulls a planet, then I don't see how they'd find the Kree a planet
@@JenoDevo Well - no, she said she’d strip the atmosphere before captain marvel even arrived, captain marvel only allowed her to have a better excuse. And I believe the reason the skrulls couldn’t find a new planet was because the Kree were actively seeking them out and destroying new settlements, like in the first captain marvel film.
if Iman Vellani isn't a plant, and she was actually cast after being a fan of the movies, I feel so bad for her. Dreaming about being in the MCU, and then getting there just as it all falls apart must be really tough. Hopefully she continues acting, she really was the ONLY good part of this.
This is honestly pretty crazy to me. Marvel has unfettered access to over 80 YEARS worth of stories, many of which were penned by award-winning writers. Planet Hulk, Annihilation, Siege, and Fear Itself are just a few of the fairly RECENT ones I can think of that were absolute bangers (I'd mention House of M and Avengers vs. X-Men, but Marvel hasn't done anything with mutants just yet). And yet they throw together crap like this? It's insane.
10 years ago we got the original Avengers, what a movie. Nick Fury was one of the most badass characters in cinema and now he's a quip machine. That movie had heroes that you cared about. They had weaknesses, emotional depth, relatability. Now we have heroes whose overpowered strength feels unearned, and holds 0 emotional weight. It's truly astounding how far the MCU has fallen considering how good it once was.
I really appreciate Charlie not bashing the cgi artists since it’s not their fault it’s the management overworking them to churn out as much slop as possible
@@sub-harmonikMost times, it falls on the publishers. For the most part, the big corpos are the publishers that overwork their development studio teams and underpay them and overprice us with ludicrous MTX, lootboxes, etc.
My biggest gripe is that it’s supposed to be the Marvels team origin story but the team breaks up as soon as they start actually working together. The only time the audience has really seen Monica is as a side character on other stuff.
They aren't even missing consistently, on the same day as this movie released they also released loki season 2 finale which is one of the best disney+ episodes ever and has a 9.7/10 on iMDb. It wraps the storyline up so nicely, while setting up future Avengers movies, and even ties Quantumania in there through a small reference at the end of the episode. It gave us god of stories Loki who is now the most powerful comic book character ever adapted into live action. Loki is truly up there with amazing shows like Breaking Bad, AOT, etc. and it really is some of the best content the MCU has ever put out period.
@@dakotatrue12facts, absolutely amazing show and crazy good final episode, Edit:The marvels shouldn’t even considered to be in the same conversation of Loki. Complementing Iman Vellani was so nice to hear. She's such an amazing actress and super passionate about the projects she's in and her character. I just wish her first breakout role wasn't being so dampened by the state of the MCU.
I'm glad Chris Hemsworth said he wouldn't return as Thor unless he thought the story was good. He is my favorite character and I don't want him to be ruined any more.
Games went through an indie renaissance too. Turns out that people making art out of love and passion end up with a better product than corporations who only care about their bottom line (and not even their future bottom line, just the current year!)
Honestly, I'm glad I concluded my MCU phase with Guardians 3. It was the last product that had actual heart in it, and honestly even before that things were messy. Part of me wishes they ended things with Endgame.
I'm glad that Iman Vellani is universally praised as the only good thing about this movie. She deserves a big chance in a big movie that's not written by an AI
Let's be real here: AI will be able to write BETTER scripts. Why do you think the writers strike also had no ai in their demands? They thought they were talented, special and unique. Turns out they're more easily replaced by AI than the blue collar folks they said "learn to code" to.
Honestly I had some moments that made me chuckle but what really made me laugh was when someone fell mid movie and started to crawl on the floor, the fights scenes weren’t the worst and the cgi was great I feel bad for the artists that had to work on this
Ever since you made the QWAP video review.. I have subscribed to you. I value your opinion because alot of it relfects my own. So when i see a review video posted, i immediately stop what im doing and watch it because it's like food for my soul. I just know its going to be good. That;s all, seeya
Iman Vellani might be the most wasted talent in this whole franchise, you can feel how much passion she has for the comics and characters, and she translates that perfectly in her performance. I REALLY hope she gets better projects in this franchise moving forward.
She loves the comics and they take every opportunity to dump on her they can 😭 she literally tried to correct Kevin feige about some lore and he was like "no"
She was the saviour of this movie. If it wasn't for her and the cat army, this movie would've been an unwatchable mess. She better go to the hospital due to back injury for carrying this movie
I really hope she gets better projects somewhere else. She has a bright future in front of her, because I don't see a far future for Ms Marvel beyond Avengers: Secret Wars. With her reputation as a Marvel superhero, I hope she would get casting offers here and there. Imagine a classic teenage drama with Iman Vellani as a geeky sidekick.
It kinda stands out that you have the contrast of the build up and length they go to in order to beat Gojou in JJK anime and manga... versus this. Because I just watched it, and there's a LOT of things you can do with an OP character to make their fights interesting.
Honestly, after Endgame, they should’ve been focusing on the X-men, Fantastic Four, and the future of their Spider-Man. They could build up Doctor Doom and Norman Osborn.
@@OliverJames1 Then why didn't they just do the other characters. Like they could had gave Namor his own movie which had alot of content to go off of from the comics but instead they just use him as a Not Black panther Villian
Yeah, after they retired both Iron Man and Captain America, they really needed to build up factions of MCU that have been relatively untouched, instead they used the remaining Avengers as a crutch and forced them in to being bad comedy sketches over and over again. I know it he didn't have much input on the direction of the movies, but it really seems like ever since Stan Lee passed Marvel took a massive nosedive and has no idea how to tell a compelling story now.
One of the things Charlie said sounded straight outta one of those old movie reviews. "The only thing new in this movie is the new low it reached for Marvel."
When you see people saying that fans can write better fan stories for movies than the people paid to actually do so, they are completely right. A planet where people communicate via singing?? This is what the paid people write??
It can be done right, but honestly I think that sort of thing is hard to do in a live action movie without it being very corny. But agree, as someone that has been around the fanfic community for like at least 20 years, I don't know how these Hollywood writers get work.
Let’s stop putting the blame on writers, this is definitely executives pushing this crap into these movies. The studios are the ones that approve any bad script.
The way they had NICK FURY of all people be the comedy relief was insane 😭 i swear the audience was SILENT the whole movie except during the cats scene (the only good thing in the whole movie)
The Marvels is a fusion of light, color, and sound. Action scenes are accentuated with rumbling bass if the theater is so-equipped. It will make a marvillion dollars.
Sounds like the gimmick from 1959's "The Tingler", when they attached something like a joy buzzer to the bottom of theatre seats. In the movie, they talk about some thing that crawls into people's spines and kills them, but if you scream, you'll survive. At the climax, they buzzed audience member's butts and told them to "scream for your lives!".
The part where Charlie talks about the people on Captain Marvel’s home island communicating only through song reminds me of an episode of Austin and Ally. Austin decides he wants to ask out a girl who works as a waitress at a diner where the servers can only sing to others. It was funny as a joke for one scene, but I can’t imagine that being used in a marvel movie.
I've always felt bad for the actress that plays Miss Marvel. She seems really cute and seems to really care about her role, and is also a huge MCU nerd so she really loves being part of the universe. It's such a shame that her role is being so mismanaged because I think she has a lot of potential
Doesn't help that she's also playing one of the hated Facist Trio of marvel comic characters that no one can stand. Ms.Marvel, Captian Marvel, and Riri Williams.
Imagine having DECADES of source material to draw from to write a script with and then just winging it like a last minute 8th grade book report for a book you never opened let alone read.
I really think Charlie just went in expecting a different movie, cause I liked it too lol. I do understand a lot of his criticisms though but I don’t think he was correct or justified on all of them. His opinion tho
The reason ms marvel and the actress works so well is bc she acquired the role from literally being a huge comic nerd which is so damn awesome and a real life dream come true haha
Agree but she’s great in spite of everything. She’s yet to have good direction at all. Pair her up with Kate bishop and heck give the power to Iman Vellani of writing the story.
I always hated her for being miss marvel. i realised she has nothing to do with her bad ish show.... yes sometimes she is a bit stiff (could be the scripts) but she does stick to the source material enouch
Agree. However, I am a little worried that with the intense backlash from people who scream random nonsense such as “the m-she-u is ruining everything,” we will not be able to see many more passionate actors such as Iman Vellani take part in these comic book adaptations. Or have more characters such as Ms. Marvel get major development in movies and TV.
THAT and the fact that Carol Danvers is apparently a much more likeable character in this than she was in her first movie, apparently she's developed a much more relaxing personality and isn't so snobby like the first.
I'm actually surprised that this movie received this level of bashing from Jeremy and Charlie. I thought it would at least be enjoyable, dumb action movie like Black Adam but this just sounds like Morbius level of bad.
@@kickass2117 I watched another review which had a totally different take that I never even thought of. That this movie was targeted towards kids. When she left the theater, apparently she heard a lot of kids praising it and saying it was a lot of fun. That being said, she also said she'd give it a C rating for kids lol.
It's so tragic how something as beloved as the MCU has taken such a turn for the worst. There seriously needs to be some sort of reboot that starts after Endgame because trying to make some sort of climax to the level of Infinity War would just be in vain.
Guardians 3 was great, but that was pretty the much the only above average marvel movie lately. Not counting spiderverse, since that is Sony Edit: Loki Season 2 has been pretty solid so far as well.
The production hell this movie has been through is pretty wild. The director even left to do her other movie during post production and reshoots. Not to mention all the other drama
I doubt "the director left", cause her previous one was a Candyman movie, which had already started production by early 2019 and was probably well finished as soon as production for "The Marvels" started in 2021. - If she ever "left" to do anything for "Candyman", it was because they were simply overlapping due to "Candyman" being delayed cause of the pandemic right in the middle, nothing more. - People do multiple projects and they don't always need to be there for every part of it.
@@michaelmonstar4276I disagree, the director can make final calls as to what scenes get cut and what needs a little touch up in the final hours. Think about the Dan Snyder cut of the Justice league- directors change near the very end and the movie changes as a result.
@@JustinRutaFinal Cut is not given to every director. In fact, it’s pretty much limited to the top tier (Scorsese, Nolan, Fincher, Spielberg, Tarantino, etc). Kevin Fiege ultimately gets final approval on MCU stuff.
Glad that you gave Iman Vellani and the character of Mrs. Marvel a shoutout. It's a shame that show went under the radar because she's one of their best recent characters and Vellani is a massive talent.
Issue is, they have grown to be so big the only way to continue is to massively over sell and hype up any movie they make. I simply stopped watching anything marvel related after I paid for a ticket just to watch a 2 hour ad for infinity war.
@@SamuelSwagwell because he is a generally chill guy who doesn’t listen to the noise coming from “toxic fans” some might say. The fact he is this baffled really says a lot
I believe today that the beginning of the end of the MCU wasn't after End Game but after the release of the first guardians of the galaxy. That combo of comedy and serious was so successful that every director has since tried to do their own version of that style.
It’s a shame, too. Because those movies are so good. But, it’s because James Gunn (for the most part) knows how to juggle the silly and the serious. A lot of these other directors just… don’t.
I really think what happened at marvel is they thought up a kickass ending to the story. They put a nice bow on it, kissed it goodnight, then sent it to the masses. Looking on lovingly at their creation; then the investors called, and were like: "Haha that was awesome, what next?" And everyone at marvel collectively shit their pants.
@@succuled1969he means that there are SO MANY good marvel comics to pull from if they need new stories, but Disney still seems to want to keep the source material at arms length from the movies. Like, if they need new stories, Marvel comics have been going nonstop for over half a century now.

It’s funny that this and Loki, one of the most thoughtful and intricate projects Marvel has ever made, released on the same day. Goes to show how little cohesion there is behind the scenes between these movies and shows.
Loki has a lot less CGI. I wonder if the amount of CGI they use in films now has anything to do with the quality. I know there is a big problem in film making now where they just gloss over major flaws and say, 'they can fix it in post-production.' With Loki, the CGI was not really a big enough part of the show to act as a crutch for them. Also, it was clearly much more of a passion project given how many references, easter eggs, and nerd shit has been packed into it.
@@Yepmyaccountits not the cgi. Its the writing and direction. As its always been. Which has been garbage for some time. Films have been bad since iron man 3. Problem is, they went Blackrock Marxist leninist maoist/frankfurt skool propaganda the further they went on.

I think a large part of it is that they're simply too scared or afraid of pitting Cap Marvel against any strong foe that could actually beat her. From her first solo movie to now, her main antagonists only survive until the end based on plot relevance. I think they're just to afraid to show us, the audience, her getting beaten up and that ppl may come after them for showing one of their few female protagonist as anything other than "the absolute strongest at any given time or situation" like even Thor gets his ass kicked in all his movies to build tension and give a payoff when he finally defeats them at the end. But Nah, Cap Marvel is simply too strong to ever really be challenged, apparently.
Iman Vellani deserves so much better, her show was solid enough but she was amazing and her passion for the character is so infectious. Really really hope she gets to be in something that’s as good as her
That’s the popular opinion, fans are saying she deserves better. Heck, she is the real marvel fan that knows more than the directors. Let her write her own character.
Imani Vellani is an absolute goat bruh. She is not only a genuine comic nerd, but Ms.Marvel is her favorite character and understands her to such a degree that I wish more actors would have her discipline towards their character since you can see she’s passionate about her role and everything that goes with it.
It really goes to show who we are as fans that unanimously we agree that that poor girl is good but in the wrong studio. Really fucking up her career. It's why myself, also feel so bad for daisy riddley. Fuck her career up so much the pnoy work she could get was BACK at disney for the same nonsense. It's honestly tiring how disney has been run since 2018. Ya know, when men, were running a MALE dominated IP. Not saying women can't write but not better than men in this specific genre. Like, I can only think of 2 romcoms with a male focus, but all the rest are made for women because women like that more than men. But men don't demand more representation in spaces we have no want to be apart of. Really shows how little respect women have for males and male spaces that instead of being interested or not they seek to destroy for men. Idk, this female focus on society at the expense of men is backfiring for all who participate.
Shame the comic editors themselves don't understand her character or give a shit. Seriously, it's pathetic to kill her off as a minor plot point of a spiderman comic just to revive her a month later and say she is a mutant all of a sudden. The MCU itself is saying she is human, as well, instead of inhuman.
