Drummer Mokhtar Samba joins the WDR BIG BAND to perform his composition "Senegal" in an arrangement by Michael P. Mossman. Other musical guests in the program are: Woz Kaly (vocals), Reda Samba and Rhani Krija on percussion, Henry Dorina (bass), and Jean-Philippe Rykiel on keyboard. Michael P. Mossman is the musical director. Recorded at the Kölner Philharmonie (August 2015).
The percussionist Mokhtar Samba, son of Moroccan-Senegalese parents, grew up in the metropolises of Casablanca and Paris. Thus, the different influences of African and European cultures can also be found in his music: in the joint concert project "Musique D'Afrique" with the WDR Big Band, he offers his multifaceted compositions, shimmering in many colors, orchestrally staged for the WDR Big Band by Michael P. Mossman.
