In this video, we fish our coldest competition EVER, EBASS Leg 5 at Mokolo Dam!
We got to the waters edge at 06:15.
At that time, the air temperature was -4°C. "A little crisp"...
Some anglers camped at the water, and they reported temperatures as low as -9°C!!!
My feet were freezing in the morning, and I was not feeling very confident about the fishing.
I mean, why on earth would the fish be eating with such low temperatures. I was so sure they would have lock-jaw the entire day!
Nevertheless, we started the comp at 07:00, did not go far at all, just to make sure my eyes didn't freeze open in the wind!
I had some troubles with my Go Pros turning on in the cold... It's the first time my Go Pro has ever warned me that the batter is below 0°C and it has to turn off the screen. WHATTT?!
My Rod eyes were freezing closed, the boat had ice all over it and still... My Dad landed our first fish before 08:00.
Shortly after, we moved further down the dam, past the dam wall and targeted a steep bank.
We found the Thermocline to be at about 30ft (+-10m).
The StrikeKing Bitsy Bug got me my first fish, fishing slowly along the thermocline.
But things really got fun when I picked up the CAFFEINE SHAD!!!
I decided to rig a 4" Caffeine Shad on a light Drop Shot Rig.
No joke... 1st Cast with this bait put a fish on the boat!
I can honestly say that the Caffeine Shad is quickly becoming a confidence lure for me!
We carried on catching decent fish along the thermocline, filling our bag and then culling out our bag!
We had such an enjoyable day on Mokolo Dam!
We ended up placing 10th for the day with a bag of 3.91Kg!
By far our best result in EBASS! We are super happy with this result!
If you have not been to Mokolo, I 100000% recommend it!
It is an absolutely gorgeous venue!
It's towering mountains, sheer cliffs, remoteness and abundance of wildlife allow for you to enjoy your time on the water, regardless if you're catching fish or not!
I cannot wait to go back to Mokolo!
