“Full survival mode just trying to get to the bottom”. This is a perfect recipe for a squeeze. Freediving should feel amazing, not a struggle.

Nice job Guys! A quick one that helped me with my ears. With your wetsuit on, use a paint pen, felt pen...whatever you have on hand and mark the centre of your ears. Take your hood off and melt a nice small hole through the hood. I used a lighter and a large safety pin. This will allows a little water in and prevents any hood issues. Worked a treat for me. My hood used to seal on my ears and make EQing difficult.

Thanks for the tip! I did that but didn’t mark it while wearing the hood, might have to do it again and make sure I do it on the right spot 🙂

Thanks for sharing your experience with us, it's really useful and aslo very inspiring. I'm 50 years of age and only just taken up freediving. I recently completed the SSI level 1 and passed the course. Though my lungs were about to burst when doing the 10 metre rescue.

Thanks for your comment Sean! It's great to know that the video is helping other divers out there :) Congrats on finishing your course! Yea rescue dives are so hard! I felt exactly the same on my last course.

Great informative video...although the sighting of a shark would spook me out ...quick question...with the rescue section are you suppose to remove the mask and blow onto the face of the diver that's blacked out to help the mammalian reflex kick in ?
@felix.salmon
@felix.salmon Год назад
Yea we were all pretty spooked for 20 minutes after that! In a real situation you remove mask, keep airways and face out of water, blow on their face because the face tells the brain if it's wet or dry, if you're in water you'll likely stay asked out and not breathing but most people breath again after blocking out if they're brought to the surface and head is held up. Rescue is the opposite of the dive reflex. Mammalian dive reflex kicks in when your face is wet and you hold your breath. Stay safe 🙂

I did wave 1 on central coast last weekend with the Exact same equalisation issues, was also my first time diving with a hood. Did flushing the hood help? I have wave 2 in a couple of weeks.

Curtis Beetham hey Curtis yes I now just pull the sides of the hood out to let water in before most dives just to be safe. I also poked small holes in the hood next to my ears to let bubbles out which I think has worked well 🙂 I haven’t had a problem with bubbles in my hood since. Hope this helps and enjoy your Wave 2!

I’m still working on my wave 1 😂 I have to go back for my depth. I’ve trained with students who finished padi and ssi level 1 and they had to start all over again because they couldn’t complete the basics of molchanovs. We’re all scuba divers so the finning is another thing to unlearn and learn and I’m not a strong swimmer so I have to prepare for that.

Oh wow yes I’ve heard some of the freediving courses run by scuba organisations aren’t very good compared to Molchanovs. Hope your training goes well!! 🤙

I can't remember exactly but it was almost double what I usually wear. Felt very heavy!

Nice :) Tell me, how do You guys fixed Your masks because of mustaches and beards, i have big one too, how did You seal it, did You have water leaking inside?! And what spray they gave you for sinuses?!
@felix.salmon
@felix.salmon 4 года назад
Thanks!🙂 I just trim the top of my moustache just under my nose before a dive so that I can get it to seal. Other people use Vaseline but I’ve never tried it. Decongestion spray will help short term blocked sinuses but if you use it for more than a few days it will give you an irritated, runny nose. Best way is to work on frenzel equalisation 🙂
