Tile installer here- that isn’t mold. It’s residue from bath products. Its also probably residue from the water itself. Well water especially, but city water too, still has minerals and sediments in it that build up over time. Please don’t use Clorox or citrus products on your tile. These products degrade the tile and grout each time you use it, making cleaning harder as time goes by. Dish soap and hot water are all you need it you maintain it regularly. If there’s a pesky area you can use a little diluted bleach every once and a while but not every week. Your tile will look great for years to come :)
I was here to comment similar. I use the least amount of cleaners of any kind as possible. Firm-bristled brushes, old toothbrushes and sponges or eraser sponges and water.. sometimes a little body wash and I clean while I shower. And that's that I have porous tiles and 17 years later, all still looks and functions like new. I stopped regularly cleaning my boys' bathroom and then it started getting this orangy color and it's slimy to the touch but easily removed with a brush and water. Add that squirter of mild detergent and voila! Gone! I recently began house cleaning on the side and people are amazed when I clean things like this up, but I don't keep it a secret and tell them that they can do this effortlessly 😅 Thanks for sharing your knowledge! 👏🏼 🙌🏼
It’s called serratia marcescens. Bacteria that feeds off soap residue. It’s called “pink mold” but it’s not actually mold. You can use baking soda and dish soap to clean also.
Yes! I was hoping someone would mention this. Serratia marcescans is seen as a pinkish-orangish color; however, as air temperature changes with the seasons, it is often a clear, slimy growth. This bacteria is prevalent in the San Francisco Bay Area, as it was released into the atmosphere, along with another bacterium, as part of a U.S. Navy biological warfare experiment in September, 1950. Google ‘Operation Sea-Spray’ for more information regarding this experiment and the unfortunate consequences in releasing what was considered harmless bacteria over a heavily populated area.
As a side note, if you are pregnant or trying to get pregnant please wear proper mask and gloves with bleach products. Otherwise there are pregnant safe cleaning products you can use. Inhaling harsh chemicals can cause A TON of health issues in your babies.
I prop open the shower door and point a fan towards the shower and let the fan run until all the moisture is evaporated, the pink mold grows because there is moisture on the shower floor. The exhaust fan isn't strong enough to eliminate the moisture, a floor fan on high will dry the shower stall and mold will not grow without moisture.
Just to make sure mold is not red/orangy color. It's dark. What you're scrubbing is a water bacteria that lives in a lot of pipes. Good job cleaning it btw.
@@weiwuxian297shower squeegee 😊 each time u shower, after u turn water off, squeegee those specific spots that are prone. It reduces the natural drying time by removing the excess water so it doesn't build up so fast. It really cut down my cleaning time in the bathroom & now my husband just thinks I actually like to clean while naked in the shower 😂 poor guy I'll just leave him to his thoughts 😅 hope this helps.
Is exactly what i recommend I'm a cleaner. I don't agree with her method because that isn't mold and using these harsh chemicals do more damage than good.
Bleach, while initially appearing to work, destroys porous surfaces creating more tiny cracks snd crevices in which mold thrives so it comes back even stronger. The scrub brush does most of the work anyway so dawn and baking soda work well.
Some alternate products that are healthier to be exposed to: - SOS pads or Barkeepers Friend are excellent for scrubbing the surface gunk off then use one of these after VVVVV -3% hydrogen peroxide is great for cleaning mold or mildew on any non-porous surface, like bathroom tile. Saturate. When it’s done bubbling or after 10 minutes, scrub off then wipe dry. DO NOT MIX WITH OTHER CHEMICALS. -Vinegar, works but takes time. Really saturate the area or wet a cloth with vinegar and lay it over the area and let it sit for an hour. Then scrub and wipe.
Or live a healthy lifestyle focused on mobility and stretch daily/do yoga and never in your life have to worry about “saving your back” hacks or getting on/off the ground to play with your children or grandchildren.
It is not mold. It is the combination of iron and magnesium plus soap scum from your showering. Pretty common where you have hard water. Just keep a spray bottle with vinegar and dishwashing soap and spray the enclosure. You see the evidence of hard water in the bathroom and kitchen sinks and in the washer. It is everywhere. The ultimate solution is to install a water conditioner.
I highly recommend folks also use a resealer after deep cleaning like this so it stays cleaner longer too and they have cleaner/sealer combos for when you don’t need a deep clean like this
Ok I know where it’s going wrong for me. I spray it and wait, but then my husband needs to take a shower, I have to start dinner, somebody calls, laundry needs folded, etc and I end up 1 1/2 weeks later with a half empty bottle and still never scrubbed it. 😂 I’m going to have to disappoint some folks to get this done.
If you have black mold just soak toilet paper in bleach and press it into the mold. Leave overnight and take it away. All will be clean before anyone needs to shower. No scrubbing required.
that's not mould, but I'm a hospital cleaner specialised in infectious disease. we don't really do maintenance like this, BUT there is nothing in a household u *need* bleach for. its really bad for ur lungs and using it in spray form is worse. even if u don't have health problems, use a mask and air out. That said, mould can be cleaned off all non-porus surfaces with regular dish soap and hot water. On porus surfaces, vinegar, soda (not with vinegar), borax, hydrogen peroxide - I would not recommend lemon juice bc while it works it also goes rancid and can give a bad smell over time. Co sisterly using overkill products creates resistent bacteria, and using too much and not getting all of it off surfaces afterwards will create a breeding ground for bacteria. As much as possible, just use water and a microfiber cloth.
@@liliahernandez6969 mixing baking soda and vinegar is for baking, not for cleaning. it makes cool bubbles, but it doesnt do anything. Mould on a non-porus surface can just be washed with soap. if its a porus surface, you either toss the whole thing out, or get a professional with professional equipment, bc nothing reaches those spores
@@blah914 could use Dawn soap for cleaning my acrylic shower ? Or Dawn and distilled vinegar together? I have a small, no window restroom that started to get moldy all around the shower corner walls, and I don't know how to get rid of it without harsh chemicals, but I also don't want it to return
I have white tile. I literally spray it with a bleach/water mixture. It’s been 2 years and I’ve never had to scrub the grout or tiles. Stays perfectly clean and white.
white is the best, you can see when it's starting to get funky, what? you want to pretend life threatening bacteria that can literally cause you death or illness , you'd rather not see it pretend the filth and germs are not there??
Love love love your videos and advice! I just moved to a new home. And I’m starting off with so many good tips and organization techniques that you taught us! 🙏
YES!! I agree! That’s what I use to clean not only the tile in my tub, but the sink and commode as well! And yes wear a mask with this cleaner because it’s really strong but works oh so well!!
❤ yes you are spot on. This is what I have been using for years and it works well. Only thing I would recommend is after rinsing, go over it with a cleaner that you like the smell, as the Clorox bleach smell is strong and lingers for at least a day or two.
What do you guys do with your cleaning supplies to store them like brushes/sponges etc...like how do you disinfect them so you're not spreading germs all around your house? Or what do you throw away and not reuse? sometimes I'm so picky with cross-contamination that i end up using things I'm about to throw in the trash.
dishwasher/washing machine 🤷♀️ if it icks u out, your machines need a rinse cycle once in a while anyhow. I typically do house - clean cleaning supplies - clean machine. u don't need to "disinfect", just wash them with hot water (60-90 celcius)
Some times I’ve noticed that once you start using Clorox it open up to more mold and then it starts turning black so I just use dawn water and elbow grease
No. That is not true in the slightest. If you are cleaning properly, bleach actually kills the mold and spores....There's literally no way bleach could be causing more mold lol
I read allot of comments saying this is not mold but issues from hard water and calcium build up. If so try vinegar. I used it to descale my Keurig. If you want extra action lightly coat the floor with baking soda and then spray vinegar on top to activate it and then let me know if it works lol! I really like how she explains things and she has great tips but I also wish she showed more natural and home made alternatives.
😢Wait! What happened to her catch phrase “How preetttyyyyyy!” Every time I heard it, it put a great big smile on my face, but this is the third recent short where the video has ended without it!🥺 I’ve seen other comments, so I know I’m not the only fan who loved it…. And yes, I know we’re here for the cleaning tips and advice, but we can love the cuteness and joy too! 😊
As for letting it dry, I have an older bathroom which doesn’t circulate air as well as current technology allows for with all the new fans(I need to fix that!) but I do have a small powerful fan I put in my bathroom to get the air flowing. It makes such a difference for so many niggling things like mold. Drying out your bathroom is so good for it.
Our tiler warned us against ever using cleaning that includes chlorine. He said they actually enable mold by creating pores between the tiles. He recommended using vinegar or old fashioned cleaning soap instead. Works great!
Whether you are a housekeeper or not you really need to be cautious whenever you are using mold and mildew removers. They are very toxic and can affect anyone.
I love how you sound like Salma Hayek ❤ Love your channel u just got my cleaning cart and all the essentials and I’m putting together now my Kids are like “why is mommie excited about cleaning supplies” Mmmmmm! If they only knew they will know soon and I’m glad to be passing on some great cleaning tips. Thank you so much.❤❤❤❤ reminds me of when my grandma used to teach us as kids miss my Nana ❤❤❤❤❤
Hi Vanesa , can you do a video on the difference between ScrubDaddy, ScrubMommy, ScrubBaby (congrats!), ScourDaddy, and the other Scrub products, and the situations when to use each? Thanks.
Not always! It can also be iron buildup from your water. I’m my house we have well water and we have to use very specific cleaning supplies to remove the stains
What do you wear on your feet while cleaning, and which mask for the face when using bleach products? And what about if you have young kids, I rather not use the harsh chemicals but do want the bathtub and shower tiles to be sanitized and cleaned without having to use half a gallon of vinegar . Thanks!
