Molly Tuttle and Billy Strings perform "Sitting On Top Of The World" at Grey Fox Bluegrass Festival 2019 in Oak Hill, NY. Brought to you by Less Than Face Productions. Audio by Bill K.
@@Facetiously.Esoteric you're the one in the comment section of a musician you don't even like, maulding about a guy that has raised money to fight racism and publicly supported anti racist groups claiming a number that could have any number of meanings to any number of people means he's in the klan. You make actual anti racists look like a fucking joke. Go be cringe somewhere else and stop hurting your own cause you fucking joke.
She is an exceptional guitar player from a technical point of view, and her cross picking is second to none. She is also a bit cleaner than Billy in terms of raw flat picking, and I suspect her accuracy is a little sharper. Billy gets right in your face with his energy and comes at you in an enjoyably aggressive style. He can probably play faster than Molly, but I also feel his longer solos tend to play out over a single chord. I'd rather listen to Billy but if it came right down to it I would find it impossible to rank one over the other. They're great guitar players and that's about it.
I could only dream about playing as good as any of them, but to say that out of everyone Molly is the only one that can keep up to Billy. thats just funny@@biggerissues6085
In an era of uninspiring pop, country, metal, and rap music....this performance and these two maestros stand out as saviors of real music and quality artistry. Thank you Billy and Molly !!
You don't know the dark hands of greed. This boy will tear himself when he learns the sweet smell of money. It always happens. Greed is god too which every other god answers to...it's called capitalism...some foriegner can rip every local business from your hands and you will hallelujah for any walmart with in a few hours. Greed is unstoppable. As long as you can stuff food in your face, you will be comfortable with rape by business, because your local god has convinced you Jesus is a Capitalist....your down fall...you will blame on others...but deep down you worship greed. Awaken to the "blessings" of that god. Christianity is the Christians mask of "fuck you, we worship greed".
Tom Wahl me too but as a guitarist trust me...Metal and Bluegrass are the hardest and bloodiest types of music to play. This kid just flat out thrashes bluegrass! 😂
No way does she!! Each time I watch Molly in clips like this, and marvel at her awesome musicianship, and see that killer smile of hers, I can't help but ponder the following: Why couldn't Molly have come on the scene while I was still out touring, & playing Bluegrass Music!!! I would've loved & treasured sharing a stage or two with her!!! ☺️ What a tremendous talent, and I'm quite sure, a very sweet young lady to be around. Ron Abilene, TX.
@@williamdillard4291 it’s actually a Mississippi Sheiks song, or at least that’s the first recording. This version is obviously a takeoff of the Doc Watson version though, lyrically.
right behind you, 43 years and used to Jam in Asheville, NC - Billy "Burn 'em Up" Strings! I'm afraid Molly is going to have problems with that style latter in life-
I have never heard or seen this woman before, but man her lead guitar picking.. That style is just different.. everything from her ear for what she likes/sounds good, down to the way she moves her wrist when she picks, like real percussive. It's something about the way she plays is just very unique, of course in a badass way.
Fun fact I read she won a few major blue grass awards for her song writing and playing. As a metal guitarist for over 20 years I am in awe of both of them. Playing at this level is just unreal
She's as good on a fiddle banjo and mandolin her father Jack taught her and she has two younger brothers that are just as good her brother Sully plays in AJ Lee's band
I notice Billy has a mic inside his guitar, likely in addition to a transducer. Looks like Molly just has a transducer. Probably why Billy is louder and has a nicer tone.
she is no where near that dudes level. she plays rhythm guitar. sorry to say it. but on her best day she couldnt compete with billy in his sleep with one hand. you heard just as much of her as needed. having her any louder wouldnt have made it any better. it would have made it worse. the one part where she actually go screwed was they didnt film her solo. they got it from an angle where she was covered by billy.
Easily two of the best flat pickers in the world at this time. Molly, Billy, and the rest of the band are amazing. I love the grin Billy lets out when Molly follows up with some insane picking of her own.
Definitely in my top five. Check out Jake Workman! Billy isn’t just a great picker on multiple instruments, he’s a great singer, and a great songwriter. I know Molly plays several instruments as well, and she write great songs. She’s been techinv the boys how it’s done for a while now!
Love me some history. This song was written by Walter Vinson and Lonnie Chatmon. They were core members of the Mississippi Sheiks, who first recorded it in 1930.
The old people are afraid they might go commercial, that's why their so critical, they wanna keep this music to themselves, because its mostly about tradition
Billy is the hot artist of today. You can’t leave the McCourys family and traveling McCourys , Sierra Hull, Dre Anders, and the whole contingent out of the mix. It’s their roots and all are fantastic musicians pushing each other’s envelopes.
THIS IS THE WAY A MUSIC VIDEO SHOULD BE!!!! NO ZOOMING OR MOVING CAMERAS. LINGERING CAMERA ANGLES INSTEAD OF RELENTLESS 1-SECOND PEEKS. JUST SHOW THE MUSICIANS. BRAVO TO THIS VIDEO'S MAKERS.
Mississippi shreiks wrote and recorded this long before Doc got ahold of it. Cream recorded it as a rock and roll song in the sixties and made it a much bigger hit.
It is so evident in this video that Billy is at heart an enthusiastic fan of music. He delights in the performances of everyone with whom he performs. It’s great to see him grinning from ear to ear as Molly and his bandmates-virtuosos every one-react to his energy and give it back.
I think yong Americans understand the importance of truth of blues rooting in American culture which is made by so diverse people from different cultures , i hope the way go to new blues blooming not a safe come back and made good old song again and again...blues must be free anf true not only to Americans listener but say what is blues can say about today's American life ...not what companies and government wants....❤❤❤
Billy is getting tight here. Molly is the smoothest flat picker ive ever heard. Like a breath of fresh air for some one like me that focusses on least amount of pick strokes. While she can still pick every note and be that smooth is boggling to me.
Cigar Gypsies Lol! My wife seen me smiling at my phone and said, “No sir! who the hell got you smiling like that?” Grabs my phone, looks through all my messages, emails,...... Guess she has a right to be worried! I’m in love with this music!
@Vlodec A big show? 😂😂 They exchanged pleasantries barely louder than a whisper and not in the mic, the audience likely didn't even hear it. Even a friendless, cynical bore couldn't possibly be bothered by that exchange. But here we are. 😂
I loved how Billy smiled at her while playing but it looked to me like she kept turning away from him. I wanted her to look him in the eye and smile back.
Billy Strings is a top notch player. There's no question about it. But Molly just has something extra in her playing that very few pickers ever have. She is amazing!
@wesleybullock814 you're actually wrong about who's the world class act here. She's like the op said, she has a bit more of everything. A true guitar goddess.
It speaks of his character and love for what he does when he really enjoys watching the other players do their thing. "Who's better" don't really matter when everyone is playing
I didn’t know she was wearing a wig. It looks so natural. I had a friend with that kind of Alopecia. It’s a land mine of emotions to get through and God bless her for finding her joy
Because commercial radio sucks ass.... These two are among the top guitarists on the scene today, and commercial radio hasn't played a peep from either one of them, at least here in Chicago........
@@thelakeman5207 I already have! Seeing her AND BMFS at Hinterland in August. I just hope she'll still be with her band--looks like they're not on the Euro tour (except for the bass player).... Hope that lineup stays together!
