My 104hp Eurorack case has arrived and it's time to install the PSU. I'm using a 4MS Row Power 40 and a Moog skiff.

Damn I remember watching this video 3 years ago when I was first getting into modular synths. Now IV got over 700hp rack and modular is my everything. Thanks for this video man, really helped me break into it.

Thanks for making this. For me, the most intimidating part of getting into modular, is figuring out this whole deal about how to power the damn thing. Nice video - really detailed :) See you in the next one.

You honestly have made everyone Modular Journey possible with all these nice detail videos, I love all the stuff you have done with Bitwig as well, hopefully there will be an Apple version of an Ipad, and also that latest video on Korg SQ-64 got me working in different way again. Appreciate all your work, Cheers!!

"So I can never put them in the wrong way round"... I definitely did this the other day! Thankfully my power modules just flashed on and off in warning :)

Thank you so much! This actually helped. I was considering a 3 tier rack system and was worried about power and converting the standard 60hp Moog rack to 104hp. Now I have a pretty good idea what will work.

If you want the power module on the opposite side I just put it in upside-down. It's not like you won't know when the power is on and you still following the rule of the red stripe. Then you get the proposed layout you want and you modular looks even more mad.

Nice video! :-) Just FYI, the 4MS power supplies will work on the far right of a Moog case. I did it recently with a Power 30 and I just needed to push the ribbon cables back over the top of the connectors with my finger and the module mounted flush to the right side of the case. That said, later today I'm going to totally rearrange my case and put the power on the left side. ;-)

I wish I found you before buying tiptop micro Zeus 🤦‍♂️ I will upgrade later when I’m no longer destitute from getting into eurorack 🙂

Those ribbon cables for the power reminds me very much of building PCs. Pretty much idiot proof for setting it up. I think if I were going to do this, I'd just let it all hang out, wires and all...pickup the case after I bought all the modular I planned on buying. :-)

Wow! So if I want to convert a briefcase into a eurorack case, all I need is one or two of these+cables, rather than installing the power supply under the rails and cutting a hole in the briefcase?
@jimivandebeek
@jimivandebeek 7 лет назад
I don't know much about this (yet) but If you like the power supply unit at the right, can't you just stick the other end of the cable in the module so the orientation is right? (and the red line is still at the bottom).
@MoltenMusicTech
@MoltenMusicTech 7 лет назад
Yeah, except there wasn't enough depth in the case to fold the cables in the right way. It's no biggy.

Hey mate, quite informative content for newbies like myself. Thanks I'm wondering if I have to use the 4ms Flying Bus cable to connect my modules or can I use a Top top one. Might be trivial but I'd just like to make sure.
@MoltenMusicTech
@MoltenMusicTech 7 лет назад
I would imagine so yes, but i'm only guessing. Ask the manufacturers or a shop that supplies both :)

Fair enough mate, Thanks anyway. I reckon they should be alright too. I look forward to your molten modular video series. Cheers

How many mm is the case if the wooden end cheeks are removed, I wish to mount a skiff like this in a suitcase which is slightly too small for the complete Moog skiff.
@MoltenMusicTech
@MoltenMusicTech 7 лет назад
It's 529mm inside cheek to cheek

Been watching your videos ever since the Surface 3. Not ready to go into modular, but do need a better PC. 1. Are Molten computers available in the states? 2. Can you recommend a good touch screen monitor? Again, I really enjoy the videos. They manage to instruct and entertain. Thanks.

Thanks for watching. I apologise for the modular heavy content at the moment - i do have a mix of other things coming through but this is a focus for the moment. Sadly I can't reach the USA reliably with computers. Touch screens, I have an Acer T232HL which is fine, although it's nothing compared to the Surface Pro 4's screen. I haven't had any experience of anything newer than the Acer i'm afraid.

Thanks for the answer. Don't apologize for the modular content. Don't we all dream about having a modular rig? Well, I do... At the moment I'm working with Max and Oscillot. Maybe Softube later. It's a CPU hog. When I can, I plan on doing something similar to what you have recommended: moog mother 32 and 0-coast. Thanks again.

If you know, when chaining 2 power modules and power from one adapter, do i get doubble the power then? Need to get up to 2500-3000 mA. Cheers!

I don't really know how best to answer your question. I've used a regular laptop power supply on all my modular power modules. I'm currently running 3 x 104HP rows with 3 power modules off a single laptop supply - the same supply i used for running 1 row. It would make sense to use a supply that is outputting enough amps to run what it is you're running - each module draws a certain amount of power. So the answer to your question is probably - yes!
@motoboy6666

@@MoltenMusicTech Yes, got an answer from 4ms. 2 power modules = dubble amount of amps. 2 bus row 45 = max 4 A. So thats great.

Does the 4MS come with bus cables? Or will I have to buy them separately :/

Separately usually, but check with who you're buying from.

Do the modules come packed with screws? I've ordered my rack and a few modules but assumed they would come packaged.

what if you want a regular rack and not euro-rack?
@MoltenMusicTech

Then you’ve come to the wrong place
@-__-_-_--__--_-__-_____--_-___
So all you need is a power supply module and a brick? What's that gonna run me for 6U 84hp
@-__-_-_--__--_-__-_____--_-___
Does the module you used come with the cables?
@MoltenMusicTech
@MoltenMusicTech 7 лет назад
Depends on the power of the PSU. The 30w 4MS one should run 1-2 rows of 104hp. The 40w one should run 3-4 rows off the one power brick. The modules tend to come with the ribbon cable to connect it to the power strip.
@dangala6915

You could have just put the power supply upside down and put it to the right side
