I think what needs to be addressed here is that she had an underlying condition (Hashimoto’s) too, and that the psychiatrist didn’t check up on that. I have ADHD and whenever I see a psychiatrist for the first time, the first thing they ask me is if my thyroid levels are okay, since I’m assuming that that can also cause similar symptoms to ADHD. Yet in this video, instead of highlighting the huge mistake that was made, all the focus is towards stimulant bashing. There are people who genuinely NEED these medications to function every single day, fear mongering of this kind is extremely harmful.
@AustinMc3
@AustinMc3 2 года назад
OMG yes! I was like really? What the heck? When she said that. This is total fear mongering and I 100% agree. People that are needing and legitimately rely on these medications to live a normal life are, at least I would say, not usually later correctly diagnosed with Hashimoto's. She was literally wrongly diagnosed and they're making it out to seem like stimulants are an ememy.
@Danielle-nz9tn
@Danielle-nz9tn Год назад
Not to mention that neglecting to focus on the misdiagnosis enables people to shift the blame to this woman. She was struggling; of course she is going to listen to a doctor who may be able to show her a “way out” of her challenges. If she was diagnosed with ADHD, she is going to sue stimulants.
@bedheadzen
@bedheadzen Год назад
At the end, I feel like the blame really is on the channel and the people scripting and posting this kind of misleading and harmful content

Yes!! Thank you!!!! It took me 8 years to finally get prescribed a stimulant for my ADHD…I have a history of opioid addiction (been clean 6 years) so I was seen as “med seeking” 🙄 My life was miserable, even in recovery, before this medication. I couldn’t hold down a job, my home was a wreck, and I was so overwhelmed I felt frozen with anxiety. I couldn’t go from A to B…I would go A ➡️ Q ➡️ P ➡️ Z ➡️ 7 and so on, in circles, never able to finish anything. The difference for me is night and day…in fact I became an addict while trying to mitigate my symptoms with substances. Finding the right medications not only completely removed any desire to get high or escape my reality, but I am now capable of things I never dreamed of being able to do before. Now, I’m also bipolar and still have the occasional episode, but medications have turned these giant boulders into gravel…manageable pieces. I literally wouldn’t be here without them. Also, I’ve found that for people who NEED stimulants, they don’t make them hyper…with my meds I am calm and can think on a linear level. I’m actually less social even…so if you’re getting massive euphoria and energy from the meds then THAT is what leads to addiction, when you don’t need them.

Man this is so true. I was on high dose of Concerta and even Vyvanse. Very similar drugs. And omg when you take it you feel as if your memory is INCREDIBLE and your motivation is through the roof. I conquer every task in my way. I never sit around. You feel EXTREMELY optimistic and happy the entire time. You just feel like an unstoppable human being. But man when it goes away you feel the COMPLETE opposite. Depressed, lazy, angry, exhausted and you feel stupid. Your normal self doesn’t feel acceptable anymore. Going back to life without the pills feels like life is black and white and just terrible. Not to mention the extreme anxiety I would have while withdrawing. Thank God I have a dr that cares about me and when I told him he helped me get off them and now I’m 2 years clean of them. I conquer my ADHD with natural techniques and the help of my family. NO MORE PILLS! If your dr prescribes them to you SAY NO!!!!!

Nothing is wrong with them if used as prescribed by your doctor. But they can be very addictive and come with side effects, especially Adderall. You build a tolerance and keep seeking that motivation and focus, and that creates the cycle of wanting to abuse it.

In the late 1800s a Japanese chemist created a synthetic CNS stimulant crude methamphetamine it wasn’t pure and had two chiral centres the byproduct was crude dextroamphetamine the chemical we give to kids which was discovered through meth I can guarantee you if you have adhd or add these medications are not what it’s like to be normal that is the biggest lie that we have told children can it help you function I suppose it can but it will come with a price emotions and identity can become a blur as most people who become prescribed will eventually rely on the substance in one way or another adhd is largely phsycological which means with proper treatment it can be resolved without the use of substance but to use a substance that decreases and relies on dopamine the very thing one with adhd lacks will ultimately just make your adhd way worst without the medication taking a pill that motivates you is a self deprecating mindset that can destroy meaning and worth and than lie to yourself and say I need them to be normal

Even though mine are prescribed, I only take mine mon-fri and on weekends I give myself a break. I go to college so with me having ADHD it calms me and I am so focused, I also have anxiety way before taking these meds but the only thing i don't like is that I focus too far back and think about things I should've done years ago. Not when you have ADHD. Untreated ADHD is THEE definition of "addictive personality". I eat opioids like candy when I don't take my meds. 16 years of opioid use this year and 22 on various stimulants, in both cases whatever I could get without Rx (nothing IV or fentanyl). I just got insurance & finally got an Adderall scrip and it's amazing how much of a NON-addict I am when I just take my damn stimulants. But yeah, if you don't make the reward chemical on your own, you WILL seek it in outside sources & it won't end well. Just because a med can be abused doesn't mean it will be. The addictive potential lies within the individual, not the drug. Also: the dose makes the poison & proper sleep/nutrition/hydration are vital when taking stimulants.

I find this hard to understand. I’ve tried different stimulants, different dosages and I have never lost weight. My appetite never changes and half the time I forget to take my meds! I’m drawn back to it because I know it helps my productivity! Even then, I’ve gone months without it until I realize the reason for my crisis is not taking my meds. To be honest, I love my ditzy, air headed personality! Stimulants do wonders for me but make me so serious and high doses give me ticks! Addiction just doesn’t seem possible to me.

In my opinion a lot of this is on the dr who prescribed the adderall! It’s their job to prevent addiction by assessing thoroughly. It took me a good few months of therapy before they would even consider medicating me. It was a very serious thing

It shouldn't be as easy as a doctor assessing you in 10 minutes then writing a script. Here in the UK I've been on a waiting list for 3 years for an NHS diagnosis. Decided it was taking too long and it's impacting my life too much to keep waiting so booked private (even private paid care had a 3 month waiting list) . I had to pay £430 for the initial hour long consultation then 2 more half hour sessions at £230 each before they could make the decision. And I think it's the way it should be. At least 90 minutes and/or 2 seperate sessions minimum for the psychiatrist to get a firm grasp on your background, childhood, baseline emotions, past trauma etc. Don't get me wrong I don't mean you shouldnt have to wait months or years or pay for it. Just shouldn't be as simple as "sounds like adhd here's some adderal". Long term daily stimulant use is a serious thing that needs assessed properly. Not a "throw stuff at the wall and see what sticks" approach.

Legalize and regulate all drugs. Teach kids and the people about safe drug choices and dose amounts. Adults should be able to access what drugs they like without going thru a doctor or psychiatrist if you don't want. Who's one adult to tell another what drugs they can take or do.

I’m not even sure if i have high bp without the stimulants because i know it raises your bp. I’m only 40 and i don’t want to cause anymore harm to myself. I’ve had full blown panic attacks from this crap and I’ll stop for a few days then go right back on them. They are prescribed and the weight loss doctors don’t even care about your health. When they saw my bp was high they just gave me a script for a water pill. They just care about money.
