I know how much Marc really, really loves when the safety police drop a comment, but I must say that elevated feather boards would absolutely be a much safer way to support the workpiece when ripping that first corner off of the leg stock. He's basically a table saw wizard though, so fingers will do.

A quick way to round over the tenons is to clamp the piece in your vice and with a strip of 120 grit sand paper, drape it over the tenon and with downward pressure, pull each side back and forth (like shining shoes if anyone remembers that!). Works great and is very fast.

I always tend to suffer Murphey's law when draw boring. I've had peg break off part way through, break the bottom part of the end off, snap an inside edge off while removing the dry-fit, etc. I go 1/32" max (especial with oak+ Janka), and taper the dowels to death now. If you can leave the ends long until they're glued on there that helps too (it makes it easier to remove after the dry fit).

Probably a stupid question but... When I've used dowels that needed to go in that far and were a tight fit I found that I could not bottom out as the dowel would capture air and glue in the hole. I've cracked a piece of wood trying to hammer it it, but generally what happends is I see glue start to seap out of the piece of wood through the grain. How do you stop those things from happening?

As you say "unneccessary strength", I'm actually curious why would it be considered unneccessary, exactly (or even the idea of being 'overbuilt'? Wouldn't it be better because it's built stronger? Or is it just the point of view not wasting time making it super strong if it doesn't need to be that secure and strong?
