I’m repurposing maple floor to creat my first woodworking bench. I’m concerned about over gluing, over clamping, and I several gaps That I didn’t see at the time it came together. Would you have advise to help me in my effort to create a bench I can be proud of ?
I almost hate to say it but my grandma has this exact rack, but she uses it to dry the hides of her defeated bridge opponents because she ain’t no knitter.
Nice work. You can do the bent lamination without the vacuum press. Create another form offset by the thickness of the piece and glue the plies together clamped between the two forms. It works great but is double the work in building the form.
Why do you plane and sand? Wouldnt a good smoothing plane get a better finish than sanding? Edit: genuinly asking. Just reread that question and it sounds snarky :D
Planing can give a nice surface straight off the blade, but not everything gets hit with the plane. So the planing is really just smoothing and getting rid of machine marks. A light follow-up sanding then matches everything up.
You made that bent lamination look super easy. I have a project I've been mulling over how to get the structural elemet and I might be able to use this vacuum bagging system.

Looks liek there is more space than needed between the top quilt and the top rail. If you did it over would you move the top brass rung up a little further?
No, because it’s not just the vertical clearance at play. There’s also a clearance between the wall and the rod. If you go higher, you also go closer to the wall.
@@woodwhisperer family room is a strange concept. My ideal family room would definitely not be open to the kitchen. In fact it'd probably be split into four smaller rooms. And sound-proofed. Although I suppose the term "family room" doesn't restrict you to just having your own family in it.
