That recipe is very similar to mine. The addition of malted milk powder is the key to the extra creaminess, I think. My youngest daughter is a "hot chocolate-aholic" and I've had to make batches in 5 gallon buckets for years now. She's now married and gone but still grabs buckets of mix when she comes to visit.
Do you still have the recipe? If so can I get a copy of it please?! I'm a chocoahlolic also I have chocolate a couple of time minimum a day. LOL Its addicting! Lol But I don't like coffee or tea, don't do the pop thing, drink or smoke. The nurses ask you if you have any caffeine like pop or coffee I say No but I eat chocolate. Now the lady put it in my chart for under caffine now other nurses chuckles when they read it ! If I can also have your recipe that would be awesome. Oh I am addicted to recipes to. My bad! When they tell you its going to be awhile bring something to read no lie I bring cookbooks. Especially the ones that has everyones own favorite that they wanted printed in the books. Love Love um. Thank You You Made Me laugh And Smiled. Happy New year's to everyone, Bye
Love it.. made it ! Thank you ! My daughter 50 yrs old haha absolutely loves hot chocolate. I dont have melted milk bit she doesn't she can add that. I even included a jar of dehydrated marshmallows for her to take along !
Your video is particularly good because you get right down to business rather than a lot of editorializing. Good information and I’m so glad I found you! I will be telling all my friends! :-)
My first thought after watching this video -the first I’ve seen from your channel - was that your kids must know how much you love them! So sweet! Thanks for sharing your recipe.
You're awesome! I was just text/whining to my sister that during this horrible stretch of weather, I didn't have any hot chocolate mix! Thanks lady! 👍❤️👍
Merry Christmas to you and yours. I spent most of the last few days making S’more pops (about 80), peppermint marshmallow stir sticks (about 100), cinnamon rice crispy mix, and Christmas crackle. Assembled trays to give to several of our neighbors and the mailman. A lot of it is going with me to church tomorrow. If we make it out. We are still in a blizzard (since Thursday) and the snow drifts have us blocked in. 🤦🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️ I was glad I had something to do while the storm is shaking the house😂
we make this but we sub out the cow milk powder for coconut milk powder (vegan) and it turned out fabulous. we also sub out half the sugar with a erythritol/monk sugar blend. it's calorie free and doesn't impact blood sugar levels so it helps cut down on the sugar content. We then use Silk whipping cream as a topping rather than the sugar bomb marshmallows. so these hot chocolate mixes are very adaptable recipes.
Do you sub both the powder milk and malted milk quantity with dry coconut milk? I use Swerve powder sugar as a sub. If you do want marshmallows, there are vegan ones. You can also make your own whipping cream at home with Aquafaba.
@@lindas9806 I couldn't find a malted vegan milk powder unfortunately. I have made the whipped cream from the aqua faba before and it was good but it just didn't hold up in the fridge for 10 days like the silk stuff does. I switched out the marshmallows just to try and cut down on the amount of sugar. Even so we made this and it was really good. we did also use ripple milk instead of water.
I made this from your previous recipe without the heavy cream powder since I have heavy cream powder I will be adding to my next batch. I use milk instead of water I also add a York Peppermint Pattie. Thanks for posting.
I made it... I absolutely love it!!! My husband said it was "too chocolatey" ??? I thought he started drinking again!!! He went to Walmart & bought a huge container of Swiss Miss 🤮
Powdered heavy cream is the bomb! I have it on hand all the time. I have celiac plus I don’t eat sugar, but I’ll adapt your recipe for me. Thanks for sharing!
A couple years ago, I made a mistake while making a batch of hot cocoa mix and I decided that I really liked it that way. And I had to do some guessing about how to fix it... although, I don't recall how I really made it, so I can't make it the same way. I will have to go back to the drawing board! Great video and thank you, Darcy!
Thank you for posting this video. I have been thinking about making a hot chocolate mix with Cayenne chili. This is a great recipe that I can just add it in.
I used to make something like this, but I like the Mexican style, after all the Aztecs invented drinking chocolate. I would add cinnamon and a tiny bit of heat. Chile powder or cayenne, just a little
So as normal I’m late to the party, but Have used this in the past for delivery drivers, I put a small table out on the porch with disposable cups and lids with a hot water dispenser. It’s funny how the delivery drivers respond. I add a few snacks for them during their long days. It’s truly a wonderful recipe
Merry Christmas Darcy! Wishing you and your family the best for the holiday! I wanted to thank you for all the information you share on RU-vid, your website and your wonder book. I have had so much success dehydrating this year. I really like making the powders. I can't wait to make the Hot Coco.
Great video. I am planning on making this for the winter. Can you tell me what brand of Dutch cocoa you used. I have searched on Amazon and there are so many to choose from. I just got your dehydrating book in the mail and love it. I used your videos to help me dehydrate some of our garden produce along with canning it. Thank you so much for your expertise.
A very Merry Christmas to you and your entire family! I am going to try making marshmallows with Splenda for a friend with sugar issues. If that works, I will try dehydrating some. Braver than sensible!!
A really nice addition to the print options would be print size as in larger print for us half blind people. Thanks for all you do. And Merry Christmas to you & your family ❤🎉❤🎉❤
@@misskitty4597 in the print dialogue window that opens before you click “Print,” look for a spot that says 100%. You should be able to increase it to fit your needs. For example, 200% would print double the size.
This is my recipe (thus Mom to my boys)...my mom would never have done anything but purchased the swiss miss envelopes :D That's how she rolled! I hope you enjoy it if you decide to make it!
Thought I'd try this instead of making hot chocolate on the stove. My guys did not like this at all. I even went back and tried more cocoa powder and more sugar. It was a no go for us. Glad some like it but I guess I'm stuck melting chocolate on the stove. I tried ☺
Merry Christmas, Darcy! Your secret hot cocoa sound delicious with all this wintery nastiness going on. I think I'll make up a batch to have ready to just add boiling water to. Thanks for the recipe.
Hello lovely lady! :D Just stopped by to wish you and your family a very Merry Christmas and a New Year filled with family, friends, laughter, love, and amazing memories made. :D God bless you and your wonderful family. Have an awesome day my fabulous friend! :D
Splenda measures same as sugar Annd I have blended it into powdered sugar in amiuns I'm using in a lot of baking and things like this. In amounts I'm immidiately as I need to Google method w another ING to keep it from climping
Sounds like an excellent recipe, but in the title of the video, I got the distinct impression that there was something in it to maybe induce sleep, but I never heard you say what that might be. ?????
It's the tradition of it being the special drink before they go to bed for Christmas. It was only done on Christmas eve and it was just part of the tradition.
Hey Darcy! Happy New Year to you and your family!! I have a question; Can you freeze Cranberries? What is the best process for long term storage? Our Walmart store had the 1lb bags of cranberries for .25 cents a bag!!! I could not pass up that deal!
You can freezer them - just toss the bags in. Or you can dehydrate them: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-WNneZ3d54co.html Or you can juice and/or can them.
Very nice video. I would like to know where you got your storage containers where you have all the separate ingredients. I am trying to store my dry perishable ingredients like that in secure see-through containers like those. I do not like storing those products in their original packaging for any length of time. The containers I have now are all mis-matched and I have not been able to find ones that are big enough, like yours. If you could share that information, that would be great. Thanks. EDITED: Oh, I went back and watched it again, and heard you mention the name of the containers as Oxo -- now I believe I can find them online. Thanks.
I have made hot cocoa bulk mix, but the addition of heavy cream powder sounds lovely. Does that cut down on the shelf life? I suppose it's a winter treat, but if it's just me, I suppose I'd only make a quart jar of it.
We go through a half gallon in the winter and don't store it during the summer, and don't have a problem with it, but depending on your environment, yes, it could cut down on the shelf-life if your storage area is warm.
@@ThePurposefulPantry I live in New Jersey. Last weekend it was 9 and this weekend it will be near 60. I'll just make 1/4 of the recipe Thanks for your reply! Happy New Year!
Might want to take a look at the health benefits of it. If you drink hot chocolate non stop like me you may not want to have it in every cup because it can cause stomach issues. As for me, I'm going to go get some and some peppermint marshmallows.
Darn. I looked up malted milk powder. It isnt gluten-free, so, I can't use it. I am interested in the rest of it, though, I only have Hersheys's cocoa. The recipe I'm using makes 60 TBS. However, i have to use a LOT to make it not taste like muddy water. I just use table salt in mine. Where do you get yours? Also, Im hoping your recipe will leave less residue in the cup. This last batch I didnt bother sifting, and it shows. 🤦♀️ Thank you!
I try to print like you showed, but I wasn't able to. I had to print directly from laptop and it went thru 15 pages and then the ads covered the recipe to where I couldn't read it. Please help........Thanks
The ads are not part of the recipe - they don't print. If you're trying to print the screen instead of printing the actual recipe, that's why you are seeing something else.
Maybe switching to read mode. ... the lines stacked on top of each other in the web page line .. it takes ads out .. so it should not print them from that page... otherwise going into your settings for your printer in order to choose those things. Good luck
The internet says there is a gluten free malted milk powder but I'm wondering why bother because the malt is such a distinctive flavor. But we have people with Celiac who are very sensitive to malt so this is a no-go for us. Still it looks like it makes a delicious hot cocoa.
Depends on the container - some do fine, but the smaller ones don't - those tend to be what I use in small amounts anyway. But the large OXO gets a cup in just fine for me.
No, I'm sorry, we don't use them, and I'm not knowledgeable enough to know how to convert- but it should be easily converted by whatever means you normally use.
Sorry - we're not gluten free and I know nothing about it - I would not be the person to try to make it - I'm sure there are recipes online that can help.
It's the practice, it was traditional, and when they got it, they knew it was special and time to snuggle in and get ready for bed. They were wee little when we started it and it was just all part of the tradition.
Tried to print the recipe and it just threw me into a loop back to the top of your instructions. When I finally got to the point where I could print it it was printing with all the ads. ????? It was around 30 pages long. I'm sure this is not what you intended
Not even sure what your doing because the recipe doesn't print ads and is 1.5 pages long. Is there a chance you are doing a print the screen and printing out the whole post?
Do print preview and choose the pages you want. You can try the right button on the mouse, too. If nothing else create a new text doc on your computer and copy and paste the parts you want. That won't capture pix, though.
@@dfreak01 But it's not necessary - hit the print button in the recipe box or at the top of the blog post as I showed, and all you will get is the actual recipe - no extras at all.
Please perfect then come back and give the recipe. This is very confusing. Do I use this or that? Your preference .... etc. .. If you use this ... don't use that ... I want a recipe. Not an opinion. Merry Christmas!
