Mom Says She Was Wrongly Questioned About Trafficking Her Own Child 

Plot twist: The real trafficker was the one who reported it to divert the attention 💀

That doesn't make sense. The cop literally said the pilot reported it. The cop lied?

She said that the police didn't apologize or anything, even though it shows they did.

Honestly, I would’ve given all proof, family photos, etc, and thanked the officer for following up. This stuff does happen every single day.

cops handled it professionally, and someone was concerned about the welfare of a child. besides a slight inconvenience there was nothing to be angry about.

You know if they're 4, you can ask the child and they'll tell you immediately if she's the mom.

"A police officer is asking this mom a *chilling* question:" "Hey, how's it going?"

I don't know what inspired those thoughts in the pilot or whomever reported the incident to police, but I don't think they took an inappropriate action. They alerted authorities to their concerns, and let them investigate it. They discovered that there was no wrongdoing. Everyone went on their way. No lasting consequences. Seems like a fair outcome.

And this is why people keep their mouths shut and don't say anything in fear of hurting someone's feelings.

Oh poor lady, people were looking out for HER child. Just like they should be doing. She chose to take it personally. She wants attention. In my opinion she's nothing but a drama queen. Human trafficking is very real. Keep reporting it, if you suspect it. A safe child is more important then hurt feelings.

She's upset someone was concerned about her child's safety???? ugh. I took my toddler to emerg with a strange lump on her head. We still don't know what it was to this day. The staff did a full abuse investigation including full body xrays to make sure she she didn't have other injuries. And they thankfully did this even though a family member was high up in the hospital administration (I didn't tell them, they knew because of the family name). Everything was finally ruled out, I wasn't abusing her. Why would I be upset someone was looking out for my daughter?

I mean...the point of questioning is to determine whether you've done something or not. So there's no such thing as "wrongful questioning."

About a year ago I flew with my 18 month old(at the time) daughter. Just the two of us ❤ they required me to bring her birth certificate since she was under 2. It infuriated me that nobody asked to check it on our way there, or on our flight home ! Not once in customs, boarding our flight, nothing. As much as I am her mom I definitely was thinking how easy it could have been for an innocent looking human trafficker. Why did they require it & not even check it once the entire time😭

Why would a pilot or anyone saw a mom & child together, and assume thats trafficking?? What made them report to police?? This should be explained in story…

I would be extremely stressed from this. And i would be questioning the whole situation. On the other hand i would be thankful that they did check. With the sad situation the world in these days, I would prefer to be asked to confirm my child is in fact my child instead of them risking a chance of allowing a child to be in fact trafficked

Imagine being mad that the police were trying to look out for your child. If someone actually kidnapped your child and the police didn't question them, you would be mad at them, too. Smh they were just doing their jobs.

I am sorry but I am not sorry! It’s better to be safe than sorry!! It happened to me but four fbi agents came to my home. I had them speak to my pediatrician which we had since birth. I didn’t mind after the shock wore off.

Human trafficking is a huge problem, the pilot was just making sure the kid was safe. The cops did a quick investigation to make sure, and that was that. I don't understand the issue here it's just airline staff making sure all is well. I'm not one to normally defend multi-billion dollar corporations, but the airline doesn't owe that woman anything and she flew off the handle.

It does happen. It's good to know that pilots have the sense to call out suspicious behavior. Good to know that authorities react to it quickly as well.

This woman is clearly so entitled that she chooses to be upset and go to social media for what a nice cop did just doing his job, quickly, safely, and respectfully.

The lady is clearly used to never being challenged in her whole life, upset for no reason. Any parent would want such an action taken like that as it could potentially save their childs life. She was only slightly inconvenienced.

I was pulled over once by a state trooper.and that officer tried to convince my 17 year old daughter (at the time), that she wasn't my child. I completely appreciate that he was protecting this 17 year old young woman. But after she told him several times, that yes she's my mother. He should have stopped there. But he kept trying to talk her out of being my daughter. My goodness...talk about absurd 😡!!

I'm a mandated reporter, and it's always better to report your concerns and let people who understand this kind of thing investigate it. It isn't the pilot's job to figure out if there's wrongdoing here, it's the pilot's job to pass along the information to qualified people. If she got arrested or her child got taken unfairly, that would be reason to be upset (and probably sue), but they were literally just doing their job. I'm sorry but I would happily show my child's birth certificate every time I fly if it meant kids in danger were actually being noticed and cared for.

Sorry, not sorry. I'd rather them check out the situation. What if it had been a case of child trafficking? Stay vigilant and keep on reporting it if it seems suspicious. There was a reason this was reported. I'm sure the pilot wasn't just making things up to specifically target this passenger and her child.

The one time cops make a step in the right direction you all call them out for doing something wrong.

I’m not going to act like this is such a bad thing. Annoying for parents, yes. But would you not want someone to sound an alarm if your baby was kidnapped?? I’d rather have them stop me - they could have saved someone from a trafficker if it wasn’t me and my kiddo. It’s a blessing in disguise moment for me. I’ll take one for all the families out there still waiting on their babies to come home.

It does happen. Sometimes we have to accept that we might have a momentary, uneasy run with the cops, but we still want them out there protecting the children.., just in case.

Wow I feel so bad for you, you answered a few questions and got held up for a while. I guess her time is worth way more then those lowly cops time seeing how she charges $497 an hour to get on a zoom call with her and is worth around 2 mil. I hope no one feels bad for her and it is stupid this is even a news story. I hope they take this down.

As a pilot we hardly ever interact with passengers, the only way the pilot would report it would be if a flight attendant reported it to him and then the pilot forwarded the information to the authorities to deal with it

This happens every single day. I would hope she’d be thankful that someone is keeping an eye out for her and her child. She didn’t get arrested, she wasn’t man handled. She was questioned. God forbid someone question you to ensure that the child you’re traveling with is yours, and is safe.

I’m sure the mom felt horrible and was offended.. but I’m glad to see police looking into potential human trafficking situations because it’s a HUGE problem all over the world. It’s not like they called her a liar.. she just had to prove the child was hers and the officers were nice about it. Who knows what the caller saw that provoked them to make that phone call.. but good for them for trying to look out for a child who could potentially be kidnapped. This world we live in is crazy 😩

On one hand, its sucks to be accused of kidnapping your own child. On the other hand, if someone had her child, she would want the police to do this exact thing.

I'm boarding a flight with my son for this June. I asked if I need to show proof of me being his parent and Southwest and American Airlines both said, "You need no proof of any identification for a child. As long as a child is with a adult no birth certificate or any form is needed." It baffled me thinking anyone can take someone else's child and fly with them. Yet this woman is the kids mother and being asked this. They really need to change their rules around!

What does "wrongfully questioned" mean? And what's wrong with Inside Edition? This is a "troubling incident" and Mom was "understandably furious?" Someone thought a child was being trafficked and reported it. Per the time stamp on the body cam footage, her "questioning" started at 10:55 and he told her he believed her at 10:57. Two terrifying minutes. Were the police supposed to ignore a report of a trafficked child? According to this Karen's reaction they should have. I reported a suspicious interaction between a man and a young boy at a mall. Turns out the man was the child's stepfather, the child wasn't supposed to be at the mall, and Dad was bringing him home. I wouldn't have known how any of this turned out if the mother didn't ask the police to please pass along a message to me. The message was: "You're a complete stranger, but thank you so much for caring about my child. If the unthinkable ever happens, I hope someone like YOU is around to report it." I was relieved and grateful for the follow-up and message of thanks. THIS Karen is looking for attention, and a payout. She's furious and ungrateful that someone THOUGHT her child was being trafficked and actually reported it?!?! I can't even wrap my head around that. What a pathetic excuse for a mother. If this was a prank (like swatting) then she should be upset with the person who called, but she has no reason to be upset with the police or the airline and absolutely NO reason to "consult an attorney." She's a loser, I feel sorry for her son. My guess: She is a difficult person to deal with on the regular and this was someone's revenge.

Better to err on the side of caution. It would be a shame if this made flight crews hesitant to say something.

Personally as a mother I’d be so impressed!! Definitely a easy situation to deal with if the child is yours I don’t understand why she’s acting that way, someone saw something and did something and if it was a different situation that child could’ve been saved, props to the authorities for their quick response

This was less than a minor inconvenience for you and your son. It took what 5 mins to clear up and you were on your way no harm no foul. For the child who is being trafficked this may be their only chance to escape. Would you rather they not check? Seriously..thats messed up.
