Hey, thanks for that, I really appreciate it; though, I'm just playing around with an awesome product, you guys are the ones who did all the hard work! 😁 I gotta get that wide angle now...😜
I had two chances to buy this lens with 20% off but never did. Your video finally convinced me and I liked that you posted a link to view the photos ourselves. I went ahead and ordered the lens today. Thank you for this review.
Do you know if this will work on a Note 9 as it does on the S9? i just ordered the case and the 58mm for my Note 9 (its backordered but should ship anytime after the 12 Dec. Also are you using the moment pro camera app with these pics or native camera settings. Great video as always keep up the great work.
It should work the same. The Note 9 has the same cameras as the S9 Plus. I'm using the native Samsung camera app, and all the images I took that were in the video were taken using just the auto mode.
@@BrentHall exactly. The anamorphic will be fun to get cool little shots and maybe inspire me to make that short film I've been thinking of doing. But I'm so amateur at all of this I'd have to really push myself to learn how to properly film and use it.
Depends on the look you're going for and the story you're trying to tell. I'd probably go with the wide angle (not the fish eye) and the 58mm. The anamorphic is the most cinematic-looking though, and is really nice.
@@BrentHallthanks again for all your help And quick responses to my questions. If there's anything that I can buy or sign up on they can help you out in any way please let me know and I will.
I think I'm gonna go with the anamorphic lens 1st. I believe it will be the best linds for what I wanna do using my note 8. Save some more money and then go with the wide from a second one not sure if I need to 58 mm...not sure still leaning.
Hello, please tell me what to take this 58 mm lens from the iPhone 11 for shooting a blog or a camera with a fast lens, for example Sony zve10 / sigma 16,1.4 I want good quality and background blur
Can you please tell me that can use this lens with any mounting clip or anything else because i did not found any cover for my phone and i really want to use it .my phone is vivo x60 pro please please help
Yeah, they definitely add a lot of possibilities and fun to mobile photography! I still plan on getting the wide angle at some point as well, but for now I'm really liking this new 58mm.
@Rudy LittleWolf Well I haven't personally tried the moment wide yet, but hopefully I'll get it at some point. It seems to be a lot better than everything else though and I haven't heard of anyone having quality issues with it on the newer phones.
I am about to get the Samsung s20 fe but I’m not sure the camera is very good. If I add this lens then everything would be sorted ? (Specially for portrait and macro mode) , but then, I could get a cheaper phone and it wouldn’t matter the camera because it can always be improved with lenses ?
Hi, just discovered your channel and subscribed. I have the Samsung galaxy S10 plus and shoot mostly videos, especially of cruise ships coming to port. Does this 58 mm tele lens work with the video camera on this phone?
Thank you Rhonda! Yes I did. If I'm editing on my phone I either use Snapseed or Lighroom mobile, otherwise I use Photoshop CC on my PC. I have videos on both Snapseed and Lightroom mobile as well.
First time viewer. Subscribed. Checked out a couple of your links. Need to wait for money, but will likely be ordering ND filters for my LG V30+. Possibly more items.
hmmm, depends on what type of landscapes you're shooting. I personally love longer lenses for landscape, though I use both. If I have a long lens on and want a wider shot then I usually just do a pano.
Before Christmas I bought the 58mm lens and a case for my Note 8. I know my Note 8 has duel cameras, but maybe I'm missing something. I can't really tell any difference with or without the 58mm lens. I've messed around with the Moment Camera App, and I'll admit I'm no photographer, but I find it difficult in trying to just set the settings. Probably because I'm taking pictures of people and they get tired of waiting for me to say "cheese". lol. Can you share with me, if I'm doing something wrong, or can I even use the Moment len's with my Note 8 phone? Also, have you seen any problems with your lens shaving off plastic from the case when you mount and unmount your lens? Both holes on mine have plastic coming off, almost like I've scrapped them with a knife. I shared this with Moment and they told me there is a break-in period. Not sure if they understood me. I sent pictures too. But at the rate the plastics getting shaved, the lens won't have anything to hold on to. Thanks! I enjoy all your videos. -Robb in Oregon
How does this lens or Moment in general compare to the OLLO Clip system offerings? Both look good but which are deemed better lenses and mounts? Thanks, great job on your vids and explaining the What/Whys...
I don't know, I've never used any of the OLLO Clip lenses. All I know right now is that I'm very happy with the moment lens that I have. Thanks for the kind words! 😁
@@BrentHall Thanks for the response. Those additional abilities of being able to add the ND and polarizing filters to the Moment lenses greatly helps the functionality of taking photos with a smartphone.
Their cases are definitely the preferred option, though they do make a universal lens/filter mount holder thing for phones. In my experience it doesn't hold as well as the cases do.
I got the pixel 3XL we all know hands down that's the best camera by far not by a little bit so my question is how much better will it make my pictures look or video can you actually tell a difference vs not having the lens
I haven't personally compared those two, but from what I understand, the telephoto lens/sensor on the iphone (and every other phone really) isn't quite as good as the main sensor, so it stands to reason that if you put the better moment glass on the main sensor then you'd have a slightly better resulting image. How noticeable would the difference be? No clue. And would it be worth it for the price of the extra lens, that's up to the user.
I'd say yes. You have to remember that the telephoto camera on the iPhone 11 Pro Max or indeed any other smartphones with it uses a completely different module compared to the main camera. When you are using the Tele Lens on the main camera, you are basically changing the focal length while still getting all the benefit of a large sensor and high micron pixel count. But there is one advantage of using the Tele Lens on top of the native Tele Lens - longer focal length. This video shows a good example of it: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-DZokuMKHqCQ.html
Great video review. How did you create the slow-mo to fast-mo back to slow-mo effect in minute 6. Was it shot in slow-mo completely through the brush and simply sped up for that quick burst of motion?
Idk. This one is made to handle the newer sensors (like on the pixel 2 and others) and will most likely be a lot sharper around the edges, but the older 60mm will give a more vintage look and is cheaper. Personally, I'm very happy with the 58, but I don't have the 60 for a direct comparison.
Hello! I need to buy lenses for my smartphone Samsung Galaxy s8 that gives perfect bokeh in background. I want the second stage (wall background etc) not to be clearly visible. I am filming doctors doing their job with a gimbal and my smartphone and I don't want the background of hospital rooms to be visible! What are the right lenses I have to buy? Thank you Best wishes
do you find edge softness improves a lot on this 58mm as compare to Moment's 60mm (previous version)? if you had a Sirui 60mm to compare with this Moment 58mm, that would be great.
I never used the old 60mm lens. Moment did say this one is much sharper than that one though. Also, I've found no noticeable IQ loss or softness around the edges of the 58mm, so I'm happy with it.
Hi again Brent - just wondering if I should invest in the moment macro 10x lens as well as this tele or will the tele work just as well for macro (not photographing anything in particular)
Awesome! Stupid question - Do these fit on all phones with a Moment case or do you need to get a diff lens for each case (i.e if i have an iphone and samsung with a Moment case, will the lens fit on both?)
I got the case for the S9 and like it but its 5x the price of my previous case. I can understand the markup on the lenses but I think the case is a bit excessive for a bit of plastic
Hopefully it'll do a decent protective job on top of being used for the the lens attachment. It was actually $10 cheaper than the cases I usually get for my phones, so I was happy about that. I haven't had it long enough to see how well it'll hold up over time though.
@@BrentHall I hope so too. Other reviews say the plastic lens mount breaks, so I am being very gentle with it. I do like the flexibility of lenses & phone combo. No longer using my aps-c Nikon Nikon coolpix A as the difference is marginal.
I’m new to photography, I bought a canon m100 but it’s lens only goes to 45mm so I’m not able to capture birds up close and can’t afford another lens as they seem to be more than the camera itself. Would this work for bird photography? If my iPhone 8 Plus is already a 55mm zoom does that mean it would turn into a 113mm zoom? Hopefully what I said makes sense 😂
I doubt it. Phones are really hard to get bird images with, and you'd still have to be pretty close, and the birds would have to be relatively still long enough for you to get a decent shot. I'm not saying it couldn't plausibly be done, but for the money and the effort, I don't think it's be worth it.
I like your video! Nice photos! If you don't mind answer my stupid question. What is the different between Moment macro len and Moment Tele like the one you review in this video. Thank you.
I don't know, that depends on what kind of things you want to shoot. They are both great and have different strengths. I personally love shooting longer focal lengths, but if you have the note 9 then you have a built in tele, so maybe the wide would offer you a little more versatility for now?
@@BrentHall I think versatility is the best option. I pretend to shot skate, landscape, mountain bike... Try to shoot a little of everything. Thanks man, appreciated.
Idk, I haven't noticed much, if any at all with mine, on either the pixel 3 or the S9+. It usually shows up when you shoot really backlit things and have harsh contest. If you have Lightroom or Photoshop you can get rid of it pretty readily with the color fringing sliders.
Possibly, though I'll have to wait until some real specs are released so I can see if it will be worth it. That's why I didn't upgrade to the Note 9, it was pretty much the same as my S9+.
@@BrentHall yea same here. Some leaks said its suppose to have a super wide angle lense and for the 5G variant 4 cameras on the back. They're just leaks but idk what the 4th camera would be for.
Have you found an app to allow you to select the Tele lens. In pro mode you cannot select 2x and in auto at lower light levels the phone selects the main lens so I cannot use on the Tele as desired.
No I haven't. Moment said you had to use their app to get the tele lens on the iphone to work, but it's not the same on their android version and I can't see any option to force the camera to use the tele lens except for if you mount the moment lens over the bottom tele lens on the phone and then put it in live focus mode, but you won't actually be able to use live focus because the other lens will be blocked. And you're right, in Pro mode you can't use the built in tele lens, you can only use the zoom which just crops from the main lens. It's bummer for sure. I'll probably make a video about it here pretty soon.
@@BrentHall thanks for the response. I hoped you had found something as I couldn't. Can I ask you another question though. In this or another video (I can't remember which) you mention creating you own custom preset to go with the vivid etc filters. Can this be done in the camera app or have you added from external. Would like to create my own and wondered how. Thx
You can go into Pro mode and click on the icon next to the shutter speed and scroll through the preset filters all the way to the right, where you'll see tone 1 and tone 2. These are ones that you can customize. Once you select one of them, a little pencil icon will pop up to the right and you can set the contrast, sat, wb temp, etc., however you want, then you can save it. The downside is that if you use anything other than standard, you won't be able to shoot in RAW for the photos, and you can only record with the custom filters in the regular FHD video mode.
your shots are beautiful! I have the pixel 3xl . I wonder how the moment lens and going into portrait mode would react. More bokeh? Do you have to tell the camera to use the moment lens or is it as simple as screwing it on the case and going to auto or portrait and shoot?
PS i have read that a good number of moment lenses with moment case with s20 ultra have vignetting? Has moment addressed this yet? i also find 2 cae for the s20 ultra The regular case and the thin? What is the differences in those cases? Which would you prefer? And why is you don`t mind? Edit on moments site there are s case options one called thin. But i think now thay are both the same?
I've compared the Moment lenses with the Sandmarc lenses and found the better value with Sandmarc. The Sandmarc lenses are equal or better in image quality (depending on which lens is compared) but also general less expensive. And in terms of customer service, Moment is an epic fail.
Expensive is a relative term, but I definitely agree that the price for their stuff can feel like a bit much sometimes. I've still been really happy with my purchase though.
