Quicksilver Messenger Service with an outstanding outdoor performance in 1969. From Ralph J. Gleason's "Go Ride the Music" produced for KQED. This excerpt is presented under fair use for educational purposes.
IMHO the finest Quicksilver Messenger Service performance available on video!
:)
P.S. You might want to consider buying the DVD; it's inexpensively packaged with "West Pole" and has a ton of previously really rare & unreleased material on it.
:)
quicksilvermess...
True concert footage of Quicksilver Messenger Service remains rare, and any hardcore fan of the band will want to get the limited edition 3 DVD set "Recoil" which includes never before seen video (seen by me anyway) of Quicksilver Messenger Service live in concert! A truly bitchin' extended psychedelic version of Who Do You Love is my personal fave! Watching the duel lead guitars of John Cipollina and Gary Duncan is something to see!
anyway, get "Recoil" here while it's still available

This video is from Sonoma State College in April of 1970. This was a free concert for the college students and local community. This is a well-recorded video/ audio for it's time. What was truly amazing was guest artist, Nicki Hopkins, playing a grand piano somewhere in the background. I was there with my friends, dancing in the fresh spring air. What a different world it was! So glad that this showed up on you tube.

I arrived one or two days later. Only managed to see the Bronze Hog and Osceola. Slept on the island overnight (or maybe that was somewhere else?). Sense of Freedom was great. Tried not to think too much about the people being killed in SE Asia..

Best kept secret treasure truck buried in a back of Chevy trunk about to get stuck on train tracks before you kiss me back and let’s not just drive let’s kiss the sky goodbye and yes I like to drive. But I can also float a boat out to furthest corner of flat world we can fold and seal with a little blood and wax just one kiss so I can spit it back. Is the end of the world or the beginning of eternity. If you make that face one more time I’m going to have to leave you here and come back someday? What? I have my universe and you be in reverse. Merry go round style? Or round about, spin your partner. Who who calling a square? Im so high I can fly. But I’m much better down on the ground and breaking glass and showing off the thing I love and do best which is dance

I worked for a large stable and ate like the horses I cared for, but was all muscle without an ounce of fat. I attended a high school reunion last October. I still have my hair, very few wrinkles, and I stayed thin - just not the “rock star thin” I was in the 60’s. Judging from the attention I received at the reunion, I’d say that I was still 19. Yeah, every time i see and hear this video it's something different, which may be evidence to the preference for music that comes back to you time and time again. That's what artistry does. Like John Cippolina's solo around 3:00, which goes into a dialogic guitar excursion with Gary Duncan who at 4:00 goes into this Indian Far Eastern Guitar riff note series that caught my attentive attuned psychedelic ear, all with those visions of John Evermore like the king on Drums and Micky Friedman on bass; what a lineup! I saw this band in L.A. a few weeks before this gig. A great show at the old Olympic Auditorium in downtown LA, where they used to have the wrestling and roller derby!! If you can find an old EMI English import LP called the Best of Quicksilver Messenger Service, the cover photo was shot at the Olympic. Gary Duncan was one of my favorite players. Along with Jerry Garcia, they inspired me to pick up the guitar.

Makes me wonder why Led Zeppelin was such a supergroup, when there's so many bands from the time period that are just as good.🤔

True that there were many great bands around at that time, but I always thought the difference with Led Zeppelin was that you felt their music, not just heard it.

Que Lepzepelin hay mejores, esta banda fue genial, pero igual que muchas bandas norteamericanas no las afanaron las revistas de música, esta banda existió antes que Lepzepelin

No comparison to the mighty Led Zep. QMS didn’t have consistency among the group members, songwriting skills. The moon and stars were in perfect alignment when Page, Plant, Jones and Bonham formed a band. Do love QMS though, great band wish I’d seen them in person.

The true Acid Cowboys of the Purple Sage. Blues with a distinctive spin upwards with scents of whiskey, leather, incense, and patchouli.
