Thanks. An email address please. Last night (Sunday 8pm local) BBC ran a tribute to Stirling Moss, who drove everything. Hamilton is good but commerical and Clark was equal to Moss.
The starting field of this race is a stark reminder of what racing was like back then. 3 of the starters would die behind the wheel of a racing car within the next 6 months (Rindt, McLaren, Courage) and 2 more (Siffert, Rodriguez) would be gone in racing accidents by the end of 1971

Drivers having their cars attended to on the straight was a contributory factor in the 1955 Le Mans crash, in which 89 spectators and Pierre Levegh were killed.
The colour footage from 1955 would be shot on colour film. This is a recording of the live TV feed and would have been recorded directly on to video tape. Ironically , Monaco TV actually broadcast this race in colour but not every broadcaster retransmitted it in colour. This is the BBC’s recording of the race and it looks like they didn’t keep a colour version.
Fantastic to see this. I was there. I had been in Milano at the San Siro to watch the European Cup Final between Glasgow Celtic & Feynoord a few days before & on a whim got on the train to Monaco. An interesting back story to my adventuring. I stopped in Genoa for the connection to Monaco and whilst there I got talking to a very very attractive girl, if I remember correctly she was doing more of the ‘chatting up’. Ended up staying at hers for a couple of days & nights, turned out she was one of Italy’s infamous porn stars. So Italy not only produces some great race cars & drivers but sensational Girls as well. 😂
