Monarch 10ee lathe and the fake machinists syndrome

No other machine tool can bring out the Bozos like the Monarch 10ee precision toolmakers lathe, laugh with me at the fake or otherwise idiot machinist that own and stink up the machinist forums, channels and other internet sites with their garbage. The situation is getting worse as this established internet racist circle jerk is running out of content to vomit on the public.
This vomit has become embarrassing as it is being called out by professionals from overseas. This group does not in any way represent skilled machinist in the USA even though they claim they do, just a group of duds and pencil neck geeks in it for the money from advertising revenue and anything free from viewers. Watch them cry like the pantie waist, gym shoed, short pants proven racist jerk offs they are over this video and as I further squeeze these internet racist bullies.

I just subscribed to you channel. I found it interesting and honest. I'm 71 and own a 1960 13" South Bend Lathe that I bought in 2019. Learned my first lesson on how to get screwed by a so-called machinist, buying a lathe after seeing it run momentary. This is after driving 900 miles, no I didn't drive I had someone drive me for various reasons and even though I had been around machinery and ran a little 9" South Bend in the 70s I couldn't remember how to run it through the paces. I'm a retired Boilermaker and Pipe Welder, a craft I really enjoyed working at. I've learned more from making the necessary repairs on my lathe then I could have learned from a book. I had a lot of good advice from the Practical Machinist Forum that got things squared away. If I had a chance to buy another lathe it would be the 10 EE. I watched a video on how the Monarch was made. Like you said, it's a wonderful piece of equipment if you know what it takes to operate it. Thanks for sharing the truth of things, I have a lot of videos to catch up on now that I know about your channel. Question: What is the Film Worth? Is it software for making the videos on RU-vid? Do you use cameras? Smart phones? I have never made a video to share and really don't know how. If i did it would be on something I used to know like Oxygen/Acetylene welding for example. Thanks

Lol, that was a good one Dee. When someone comes by and asks if I’m a machinist, I tell them no, just Joe plumber with a lathe. I’m 54 and started in this hobby 3 years ago. I know I messed up and let a Monarch 10EE slip by for $2500 at an auction about a year ago. The auctioneer said it had an electrical problem and the company just let the lathe sit there and used another one instead of trying to fix it. I remember it had the weird glass tubes in it but seemed completely stock and unmolested. It was dated 1947. It even had the taper attachment mounted on it. I ran a Hardinge HLV-H for 13 years and ended up buying one and loving it. The Hardinge is very simply built and easy to maintain. But the Monarch 10EE has my interest and will try to get one and keep it original like you say DEE
@deedeeindustrialsuperprecision
Local fellow here solved what lathe is better problem by having both. The electrical complications of the machine are actually easier to fix if you can run or observe one that is working properly, I am trying to show that when I can and will continue to do so and talk about it. I have many hours on the HC model that I used to bullet nose valve guides, cut and shape hard alloy valve seats of all types, and most other upper cylinder head parts for Harley Davidson engines. What I found is positive rake inserts and straight screw machine oil most of the time I could cut the hardest alloys including titanium up to the size of a 5c collet capacity it is after that I found the Monarch takes over up to the capacity of their 3" steady rest using negative rake inserts and not as much coolant use except for hard titanium due to more power and weight. Both machines are outstanding and come from separate directions in design. There are hoarders of these machines that pick them up cheap with one foot in the grave, more will come up for sale, thanks!

I’ve recently been spending a fair time on Facebook groups and forums as I’ve been buying and selling old machines. Buying piles of rusted crap, turning it into a functioning machine, that sort of deal. But if you could see the absolute nonsense, the utter garbage, the vomitus spewing of sheer unadulterated and shameless ignorance that passes off as “advice” and “knowledge” on these forums and groups. I’ve had to stop posting and responding altogether, because if i say anything it isn’t going to be nice. I'm pretty sure I know who you are talking about ("Mr. Shortpants") since he somewhat recently got a 10EE. If it is him, you're right, he is not machinist, but he did work as one earlier in life and now it's his hobby. He is a PhD scientist though, so he may come off as authoritative even when he is not. I'm not a real machinist either, just a home shop guy, but I am a practicing electrical engineer and I can say that if Mr. Shortpants is who I think it is, he doesn't know anything about wiring, controls, etc. either and was not really interested in being corrected since he felt it was "good enough." In my professional life in engineering, "good enough" is generally not really good enough, particularly in areas of safety, so I can understand that in your professional life his "good enough" work is not OK with you. Sometimes you just have let people be and let them deal with whatever consequences come. That doesn't mean I will stop watching him or you, since I have learned from both of you. You're wrong, Dee Dee. There's a great deal to improve upon when it comes to 1960s power electronics. There's a ton of parts available now that weren't when the 10EE was being made -- namely semiconductors. Even Monarch themselves replaces the DC drive with a VFD. There's no reason to think that the best way to do things in the 1960s will necessarily always be the best way -- this is senseless nostalgia and is in direct competition with good engineering. You keep the tubes in the 10EE because they're cool and do the job and you like tubes, not because they're optimal. They're hot, inefficient, and have a much shorter usable lifespan relative to an IGBT or SCR or what have you -- this is just a fact.
@deedeeindustrialsuperprecision
@deedeeindustrialsuperprecision 8 месяцев назад
I have said the VFD is the only logical alternative for the 10ee, even the factory admits the VFD does not have the performance the vacuum tube DC drive has. Your pie in sky praise for modern technology in this particular circumstance is as worthless as your opinion, You have Zero experience and it shows, try butterfly collecting or pissing up ropes.
@marcseclecticstuff9497
@marcseclecticstuff9497 6 месяцев назад
" There's no reason to think that the best way to do things in the 1960s will necessarily always be the best way -" Conversely, you shouldn't assume that they're not... Monarch is using VFD's because they don't have a choice. In this case, sorry, the tubes really are optimal, they are simply no longer made otherwise you better believe that Monarch would still be using them. Super simple proof, the original tube based drives used a 5 HP DC motor. With the modern VFD setup, I think a 10 HP motor is recommended IF you use the back gear box, 15 HP if you go direct drive. This is because the torque curve of the tube drive was MUCH flatter than a VFD who's torque falls off at lower/higher speeds. Also, Monarch chose the much more expensive option of using DC originally to minimize the amount of mechanical noise that gets transmitted thru the spindle and into your work. Same reason the feed drivetrain is belt fed, not gear fed to provide mechanical isolation to the spindle. AC drives the spindle in 'bumps' which can be seen in the finish of the work due to the high precision and the 10EE's offer in the hands of a real machinist like Dee is correctly pointing out here. The modern DC replacement drives I've seen have all fallen short of matching the original as well. My 10EE had a $50,000 conversion to an Allen Bradley 1395 DC drive installed and it was awful, lacked both power and speed, topping out about 3200 RPM. I never heard much good about the Beal, Beel?? drive that made the rounds on the Monarch Forums. The best alternative to the original drive is to use a modern AC servo motor and drive. They have excellent torque curves and because the drive knows the exact position of the rotor within the magnetic field that the drive is controlling, as well as the load on the motor, they apply the right 'amount' of power the motor needs a that instant making them run very smooth. Most modern CNC machines use AC servo motors so the impulse noise issues are manageable and outperform DC drives in other ways. That said, if you have the original drive, do it takes to get it repaired. The only time I'd consider using anything but the original is if the original drive was already changed when you get the machine.

The side benefit is knowing good folks like you and I will keep making videos, I informed YT exactly what has been going on here with this bunch of racist scum on You Tube gaming the system and I intend to clean it up. My very first video I said some are going to be very unhappy about me being on YT, I was very pissed off right then in not a good way. Thanks Blade!

@@deedeeindustrialsuperprecision The Universe is vast and our lives are short. Now that I am old and in decline I realize the importance of finding and sharing joy whenever possible. Don’t charge windmills at the expense of sharing joyfully, what you have learned/ discovered during your life. I'm wondering how you are qualified to judge all the other Machine restoration people you mock. All I see you doing is polishing your machines and trying to tear down other people. Are you that insecure or inadequate that you have to do that? I have been a Machinist and Toolmaker for over 43 years and been in many shops with people like yourself that produce little and talk a lot. I have watched some of the people you down. They are doing what they want and sharing their experience with others. take it or leave it and live and let live.

You have shown nothing on your channel with all your experience Martin, are you a racist bully like the owner of the PM forum? Are you going to threaten me and my family?

So one time I watched a short pants video. We were ....trying.... to pour Babbitt. We super over heated the bearing housing, then poured. The Babbitt boiled out, spattered all over. The end result looked like crap with porosity big time. Short pants pronounced it a 'job well done' with the porosity a good thing to 'retain oil'. The commenters praised short pants as a hero and Babbitt expert! I was totally appalled. A complete shit show, yet his loyal Luddites had nothing but wild cheers for his expert abilities. What a funny shit show.

Kenny, you have done nothing in your miserable wasted life, no content in your channel to proves it.
