I’ve got 9500 miles on my helmet, haven’t washed the liners at all, 35$ seems like a good way to go rather then washing and drying I did think about throwing it in one of those delicate laundry bags and set the washing machine and dryer to delicate cycle but 100$ worth of new pads in my helmet once a year or 10000miles of use is by far worth it to ensure proper fitment in my mind. I have rf1400
Thankz for the tip! Cleaning my helmet right now and thought to double check for possible liner trouble to avoid. Quite helpful! And take a tip from a Professional Barber Stylist in return if you like... 1. Lather face with hair conditioner to soften the hairs instead of using shaving cream or soap. 2. Heat a washcloth as hot as you can get it at your tap or in a bowl in a microwave then wring it out so it's just hot more than wet. Test on your forearm for safety / temp. It's the wet that will burn you not the hot in this case. 3. Apply hot wash cloth to your face to further soften your beard. 4. Shave with the grain of your beard with a high quality razor such as a Gillette Mach 3 or better. The result? Baby soft skin with much less or no irritation for every day shaving. You can also use a similar technique in the shower with a shower mirror. Treat beard when you first get in and shave last and your beard will be soft by the end of it. Cheers! Lauren
I hand washed the liner. After multiple clear water rinses to get rid of the woolite, I then put it in a tiny delicates bag and put it on the final spin in the washer. No more excess water. No stretching. - worked like a charm!
After a gentle wash in the washing machine (don't spin-dry) or hand wash. Dry it lying flat on a thick towel. Hand press with another thick towel. Air-dry. It's the safest option.
I will keep this in mind. I have been doing my liner wrong for a long time and have just been getting lucky I guess. I use the gentle cycle on a mini washing machine for apartments with the padding in it alone and just air dry.
About your beard stubble: Wear a BUFF on your head that covers that area. 2 things. The sweat and head oils stay inside the buff which is easy to wash and your ears slide into the helmet really easily.
Did you ever wash the shell with non removeable liner inside of the helmet with water? i just want to deep clean everything. i have a shoei X14. let me know Thanks
Hey, so when I got my new helmet, it fit nice and snug, almost too snug, but I expected it to break in a little and not be too snug. Well, after a couple months of riding 2 times a week or so, now my helmet is a little more loose than I am wanting. My question is this; if i wash my pads and liner, will that make my helmet fit a bit more snug? Thanks to anyone that can answer my question.
TwoWheelObsession well, I washed my cheek pads and liner in cool water and woolight, then rinsed them 9ut really well and let them dry for like 2 days. Put them back in and put my helmet on and boom, fits like new. So, I guess it does work.
My helmet is 6 years old and the liners are filthy. I hand washed the head pad and it fell apart. New ones are $50 now but a new Neotec is $800 so guess what? I’m buying new pads.
+thehexter1 Thanks! The dozen or so were all I could get, I just had one day. There were a couple booths that were just swamped all day and I never got a timeslot with them. Others didn't want to do a video. You would be surprised how many people are deathly afraid of talking on video, at a tradeshow. Same thing with IPCPR for cigars. I have the full show tour vid coming next, that will wrap it up for this year.
Yikes, I had no idea that would happen from such little effort! I wash mine and let it sit, just use a different lid for a day or so. Also, I've notice that as I get older, and all the red in my beard has turned grey and white, that those hairs are more rigid, so my stubble will penetrate those pads like a porcupine!
