I love being a stay at home mom, but that sometimes means we have to get creative when it comes to our budget. I've learned a few money saving tips and tricks along the way, though. Here are some of my tips for living on a one income budget! Is there anything that you would add? (I could go on and on - but that would be a VERY long video!)
Please share this video and give it a thumbs up if you liked it!

As a stay at home Mom of 2 for over 22 years, I have been thru it all. My tips from experience are to shop every two weeks, buy plenty of basic staples such as potatoes, rice, pasta, frozen veggies, chicken and ground beef. Another tip is cook. I cooked everyday, usually using my crock pot. Everything was put in in the morning, and dinner was done. All I would need to do was to make a veggie or salad, and if we had bread/biscuits, I made them from scratch. Cook planning for leftovers for another meal during the week in mind. I shopped clearance racks, and thrift stores, dollar stores, and gladly took what others gave us for free. My husband has since passed on, and my children are young adults, but I still live this way. We've always had what we needed and wanted. :)

My husband has provided for us well. Before I married him I worked for many years. Then, when we got engaged, he told me he didn't want me to work after we started having children. I worked up until one month before our first child was born. 2 1/2 yrs later our son was born premature. I didn't get a paycheck for all of the work I have done. But I have given my now late husband and our children so much more then working Moms can give. Before I had our first child, I worked in a day care and saw the other side of it. I am so grateful and blessed to have been able to give my family the very best. for years and years. Since my husband died suddenly, I have had to do it all. And because we have always planned for the what ifs of life, our children and I were left well off. If you are happy with your life, that's fine, but to me you sound envious and bitter. Many women I have known choose to work even tho they have children because they don't want to put in all of the effort and hard work that we stay at home Mothers do every single day. I feel sorry for you.

+Draniula I don't respect people for being so judge mental over there choices. There is nothing with the way her life as gone. You need to get off your high horse and realize not everyone wants to live there life exactly like you do. I am stay at home mom 3 little and honestly don't ever plan on working even when my children are grown and that's what my husband wants as well. I am here to take care of my children, our home, and my husband so he can work towards his dream career. Just because that's not how you plan your life doesn't mean what I am doing is wrong. Also because you have a job outside of the home and that's not how I plan to live my life doesn't mean you are doing anything wrong either. Everyone lives their lives they way that works for them and don't deserve to be looked down on for it.

Great vid.. My wife stays at home with our 3 year old and we have another baby on the way.. It can be a real struggle sometimes but I think it's worth it for our family.. Your kids are only young once.. Someone needs to be there for them, I don't want a stranger raising my child

You are so right on point. I've gotten my junk food down to just popcorn 😀. Yes, stock up on low low price staple pantry foods. After paying attention to how low a sale price can go, I discovered 3-4 times a year, ea store drastically reduce the price on staple foods on their regular schedule. Dry rice or beans $0.30/lb.; Pasta $0.45/lb.; Flour $1.00/5 lbs.; Bakery day old outlet artisan bread$0.75/24oz.; cooking oil $1.50/48oz.; Fresh boneless chx leg meat $1/lb.; Tuna $.50/5oz.; Peanut butter $1/16oz.; Green tea and black tea $1/100 t-bags. I shop from about 4 stores in a drive loop 1 time a week. Check the weekly ads online and write down what from ea store, after checking pantry and fridge stocks. But I gotta have my popcorn 😀! My luxury.

We follow these tips too! The hardest thing for us is eating out less, since before having a baby we ate out a lot on the weekends. We've found that by planning new recipes we're excited to make on the weekends, or eating out at a fast casual type of restaurant (e.g. Chipotle, Noodles, etc) instead of a regular sit down restaurant we are able to save money and stick to the budget but still feel like we were able to go out!

Great tips and great, organized video Jess! I can tell you put a lot of thought into it and I bet you'll help out a lot of people with this! We live on one income too and are so blessed that we can. I love getting my "Big Fat Check" from ebates! Along with all that you mentioned I also like to save money by making my daughter's baby food and buying our produce from a farmer's market. I actually just got a tripod to make videos for a RU-vid channel where I plan on sharing recipes, tips and tricks for baby/toddler meals because when I was starting out, I looked on RU-vid and couldn't find much. I must admit though, I'm horrible at meal planning. I don't know why...I have a budget and I can plan other things..just haven't found my groove I guess :) Plus, my husband works evenings a lot so I just keep things simple for myself.
@livewelljess
@livewelljess 9 лет назад
Jess Frezz Thanks so much! It can definitely be hard to get into the groove with meal planning. I've given myself a little flexibility by always having a few staples on hand that I know I can throw together for a quick and easy meal, that way I don't have to plan all seven dinners each week. I have a few nights a week where I can just throw something together based on my staples.

Going from two income household to one took a little getting used to but we made it work using the same methods. I also use apps to help earn points that I later redeem for large purchase items. We save money by shopping sales and couponing for our food, buying the clearance meat. Buying our clothes second hand. Walking places when we can to save on gas money.

Great tips! I love your message at the end about how our human needs are actually pretty minimal. All march I am going to share what minimalism means to me. I have a question about cable - I'm ready to cancel but I like seeing local news. Does anyone else have this issue? I guess I can go old school and get "rabbit ears" antenna - or is there something more modern that I'm not aware of?
@livewelljess
@livewelljess 9 лет назад
Patricia Keele Yes, you can get an HD antenna! We have one, and they're pretty inexpensive. @1

This was such a good video! My name is Kenny DeShields, and I'm our Social Media Specialist for +Vantage Credit Union. I am always looking for great content like this. These tips are not only good for our audience but totally see how I can apply them to my own life. I LOVE Date Night with my wife. We have a 15 month old son so sometimes it's a little challenging to be consistent with date nights, but there are so many ways to be creative and spend quality time with my boo! :) God bless you on your family and all your endeavors!

Great suggestions on how to live on one income. You have inspired me to implement most of your ideas especially being a mom of four plus a grandson. I've decided this year to be economically conscious and frugal that I've started to save money at home, using coupons, etc. Thanks for sharing. Please check out my Money Management video.

Great video! I literally just sat down and started a meal plan! I've been doing organic bona rural couponing as well with all natural savings on Feb!

Dom'sMom What is organic bona rural couponing? Never heard of it before, but I'm intrigued!

***** hahaha! oh I wish I could tell you but I'm not sure how to translate my tablet. ;) but what I was trying to say was organic/natural couponing. I use all natural savings on Fb and she matches them up. Mostly printable.

Kim, I'm totally confused from reading the comments; I wondered if it was your comment section from your video or a comment section from 'The Mommy Archives'. And it doesn't seem like it is just back/forth dialogue between your commenters. Could this be a RU-vid glitch??

Do you have a video about your diy beauty? Also, what I always wonder about for couples with one parent at home is retirement savings. Any tips there?
@livewelljess
@livewelljess 9 лет назад
NebulousNattie I have some videos in my beauty playlist if you'd like to check that out. Are there any specific videos you're interested in? And perhaps I'll make a video talking about retirement savings. Essentially though, we just prioritize long term savings. We make it a point to put money into retirement savings even if that means living with less now.

I'll check out some of your beauty videos. I'm fairly new to your channel so I probably missed some that I would like to see. I've seen other SAHMs talk about how they financially afford it and no one ever brings up retirement savings. I always wonder if they are actually saving.
