✨ Four money trees were trunk chop to encourage branching.
Did you notice Jiji at all? She was spying behind the patio door. You can barely see her jumping down at minute 5:05 to 5:06. Sneaky!

I really enjoyed seeing this bc it’s growth from a stump. I’ve been debating on cutting all the branches and start fresh for spring.

Yes, it's rewarding to see the new leader trunk growing again. It also encourages branching every time they are pruned but not always easy with money trees. My trees are due for another pruning too but I won't need to cut to a stump anymore but down to a couple leaves instead. Have fun with yours! ^^

Trees producing 6 leaves stems are not that rare. It's the 7 leaves or more that's rare.

Thanks for this video! I decided to also propogate my very stem-my Money Tree by trying to root both leaves, stems and doing trunk chop to all 5. According to other videos, you cut above a "v" in the trunk - I wonder if thats why one of your plants did so well and the ones without a "V" struggled a little more? It's just a theory. Thanks again - no other video says that this is OK to do and you show updates with buds! So helpful.

I recommend propagating the stems in water. They have been 100% successful for me when propagated in water. The leaves though are probably not worth the effort. Regarding the "v", I assume you mean a branch point on the trunk. Not all the trees I have had a branch point in the beginning so they had to get cut at some point on the bare trunk, if that makes sense. =D By doing the cut on the main leader (the dominant apex), the growth hormone auxin will reproduce and trees tend to start branching out due to it since the dominating apex is gone. One of the plant is doing better than others because it is bigger and has more stored energy (starch). I'm not convinced it's because of the "v". Also, it will be better if you have a lower leaf you can cut to. That way, the tree can still photosynthesize while recovering instead of purely using its stored energy to make new stems and leaves. I wanted a more compact tree so I had to cut them lower than any leaves they had left at that time. I hope my explanation is helpful. Thanks for dropping by! ^^

Great. I think unbraided Money tree can grow much bigger in the long run.

Mine are taking 4 times the space now but I like the unbraided look better.

So it is possible to separate the trunks from each other? Like I've unbraided mine and I've been wanting to try spread them apart.
@SeowLikeMeow
@SeowLikeMeow 3 года назад
Yes, you can separate them. They don't fuse. Have fun with yours! ^^

Why didn't you put the tops in water? They would have rooted within three weeks!!!

I'll definitely try it next time. Two of the top cuttings are still alive. Thanks for the suggestion!

Nice video, what type soil did you used?
@SeowLikeMeow
@SeowLikeMeow 6 лет назад
I use 50% turface & 50% perlite. I learned this soil recipe from Nigel Saunders on RU-vid. ^^

What kind of soils is best. Just gravel ? Because I overwatered it and now losing leaves 🍃
@SeowLikeMeow
@SeowLikeMeow 3 года назад
I let the soil/substrate dry out before watering. Gravel alone will not be good because it won't be able to hold water and nutrients well. Use succulent and cacti mix or add extra perlite to potting mix the next time you repot if you tend to overwater. I use 50% perlite and 50% turface but the key is still to let the substrate/soil dry before watering again. Otherwise, the plant will still be overwatered. Hope it helps. ^^

How many cups or quarts do you add weekly?

Watering? I water thoroughly (until water runs out from the drainage hole) when the soil is almost completely dry.

What kind of soil did you use and how did you take care of it ?
@SeowLikeMeow
@SeowLikeMeow 4 года назад
I use 50% perlite and 50% turface. Water when dry and fertilize as long as temperature is above 50 deg. F but lighter fertilizing in winter.

I've grown mine down to around 45 degrees F outdoor. I'm not sure if they can take much colder growing condition.

Maam ,Can i ask question this branching is defferent fro marcott?
@SeowLikeMeow
@SeowLikeMeow 2 года назад
Marcott is air layering which is essentially a propagation technique. I trunk chop my trees to encourage ramification on the main trunk, not so much to propagate. I hope I answer your question. ^^

Yes. Any number of leaves is lucky as long as the plant is healthy. ^^
