Kuchh bhi.... the film just has her name in the title but she is rendered inactive rather passive, almost ineffective, and she gets killed in the end - she doesn't rise to be a winner or the one who outsmarts all of these men - a surprise in the end which gives our hearts a full bounce and satisfaction - as one would expect from the title - all is happening in her name but she is not shown to be plotting herself, creating some action which change the course of the events . All women in the film are like that - ineffective and even dumb (Jayant's fiancee for example). I do get the stylized neo-noir genre - and a film that wants you to enjoy that environment - but it has not caught up with the changing world, with the changed world - the women are simply wrapped in their sexuality and their power of seduction but ....and the woman investigator - she just fills in the current demand of having at least one powerful, witty, smart woman but the detective too in the end does nothing as such -
Radhika apte gave us a top notch performance even if a smaller role. And Sikander Kher has a strong screen presence, I think we are going to see more of him
You know a movie is good when Sucharita says- this movie is not perfect… but are these imperfections making it better ??? Is there a reference??? 😂 definitely going for it!! Thank you Su4ita!!
That painting in the hotel room when they are plotting the murder is unsettling, direct and yet so meta! 😂 I hope Sikandar Kher gets more roles. His screen presence is strong. Rajkumar, Huma and Radhika all were so amazing... And that ending was terrific! ✌🏻
This movie has so many references to other movies and movie characters and so much more. I was hoping you'd also mention a nod to Johnny Gaddar (probably the most underrated noir in Bollywood) I cracked up during the mention of My Cousin Vinny. Was smiling when I saw Bates Motel but I was laughing out loud when Sukant prefers Tamang as Caption Zatack (a nod to the same actor who played the character in Hum). Vasant Bala is a true Bollywood lover. Thoroughly enjoyed Mard Ko Dard nahi hota but this one is in another league.
Loved the film! It was entertaining and funny. I wish Sikander Kher had more screen time....his punchlines were awesome! Also, I was certainly not expecting that end! There were too many easter eggs like Hotel Amar (appears to be Hotel MAR in one scene), painting of 3 bears in the same hotel room as the three of them, scene where Nikki is pouring red paint in a bucket for her painting and some of it spills; referring to bloodshed thats gonna happen, etc.
@Ratul Banerjee yeah but there is just one sex scene without visuals only sound of them doing.. Apart from that its all family friendly.. Thore gali bhi hain
I don't know if anyone else noticed it but the meta references that Vasan Bala did so well in Mard ko Dard Nahi Hota are much more sharper in this movie, they land better. Clearly, this movie is much more polished, hoping to see a lot more from this extremely talented guy
Saw this today after your recco reel on insta. It BLEW MY MIND. What a fabulous movie. Everyone has acted so well. I loved Radhika the most. Her giggle was so cute & contagious 😂
Agreed. Although, I'd say the same thing about Radhika Apte's Naidu. Imagine a Byomkeshesque or Karamchandesque serialization ... I think it'll be a treat to watch. What say?!
Just watched the film last night and absolutely loved it. So many big narratives just touched upon, the cameos from characters from his previous films were absolutely hilarious, and the fact that a big sized lady can finally play the role of a siren in a full fledged bollywood movie gives me a some hope of decency in an otherwise shallow industry, as a plus sized woman myself.
Can someone explain the scene when Monica was drinking the wine and Jayant receives a phone from her fiance but she was faking it that she is driving a car and coming to get him. But in reality she was just sitting in a still car. Can someone explain what was that about?
I was absolutely bowled by Mard ko Dard Nahin Hota, this is like that. Vasan Bala is the one to watch for in the future. I hope he gets a proper release in theatres soon.
Finally Apte did a cop role true to her grain otherwise Sacred Games main toh she was was abysmal as a cop. Stunk up every frame she was in. This one was good.
I wish this movie had come in theatres! Raj’s good movies go to OTT and his bad movies go to box office and then he is labelled with ‘no HITS’ 😕 @sucharita gonna watch this for sure!
@@halocraze9839 I agree but after knowing its good people might go and watch. I am not comparing this with Kantaara but at least a decent footfall could have been a good achievement for this movie.
I think I shd have watched your review first and then watched the movies. Jad to go thru the film again to check the pop culture ref. Did everyone miss the best scene closeup of Rajkumar's
i know this is not your benchmark - but you have got almost the same number of views as FilmCompanion's review for the same movie! Way to go Sucharita - excited to see this channel grow!!
the movie is good. it has a interesting story, and some really good twists and some very intelligent reveals. And the narrative is shot with a distinctive style making it seem serious and gripping without the cheap commercial look or feel. The acting is good. The casting and acting is good But the plot is really loose. I have not seen absolutely tight murder mysteries made by Hollywood so its a tall order to expect Bollywood to make a perfect one. But for characters to forget something drastic that happened say a minute ago is expecting too much of the audience to digest, even if its Indian. Overall Monica my Darling is more style over substance. The realistic look and feel, and timing of the movie, the subtle reveals without too much drama and typical Bollywood style is well done. My rating is 6.
Finally Sucharita getting promoted from a RU-vidr to an Entrepreneur and following the footsteps of other famous RU-vidrs and started selling her channels merchandise. Yaar kuch to naya soch lia hota. Ya bas jo baqi sb kr rahy hain tmne b wohi krna ha.. Atleast be unique and Innovative. Ironically your most common critic to others. Who would've thought you will be criticised for the same. 😂😂😂😂
This is absolutely makes clear to me that my use by date has expired long back! I don’t think the smart inside jokes is a treat for majority of th (even younger)Audience ! Average antiques of well established, well liked Actors are seen without much scrutiny and this fact is well taken advantage of by writers and directors ! Nothing here is satisfying from Storytelling skills point of view or with any unique handling of the over used situations! For me not more than 3to4 /10! Young moviemakers and their desperate audience JINDA…..BAD!
This movie was so damn long and had stretched the plot so far that by the end it was a mumble-jumble of he did it - she did it. I thought it was structured very poorly. Some of the scenes were funny and blended well with the genre. I mean the absurdity in the plots were insane. For instance you cant kill someone with snake venom if they ingest it, unless of course they have internal wound which was never mentioned. Extracted venom needs to be in the bloodstream in order to work. This movie is so far up in its own bum that at times it didn’t know what or where it wants to be.
Terrible movie. Just watched it. Too loud. Too many unnecessary twists that are untwisted without laying proper foundation but suddenly the murderer confesses. The Jarring music overused and killing audience attention. Too much borrowing from coen brothers to quentin and anurag kashyap but stitched together in a incoherent way.
Something wrong with director, the background songs r so annoying and direction is absolutely stupid. I had a headache watching this movie. ACP is acting like a roadside mawali. It takes so much experience and training to reach that post, her behavior should have been little dignified and convincing. Total boring.
