Mike Nesmith joined the other three Monkees at the Greek Theatre in LA in 1986 for the encore of that nights concert. They played Listen to the Band & Pleasant Valley Sunday.
I was actually at this concert. When Mike walked out onstage there was so much excitement in the air - it was unbelievable. To this day it is still one of my all time favorite concerts!
As soon as he sings that first line, "Hey mercy woman, plays the song and no one listens..." my heart soars. I've listened to this opening about a hundred times :)
When I heard the news about Mike Nesmith's death, this was the first thing I thought of. I was at the Greek that magical night when he reunited with the band, and it was pure bliss for this Monkees fan. R.I.P., Mike. Thanks for the music, thanks for the laughs, thanks for making that night in 1986 such a special one.
You can find anything on youtube! I love finding all of these Monkee videos. This one was a special treat. I love Mike Nesmith's work, in and out of the Monkees. His lyrics are pure poetry.
I was at that show! I was a senior in high school, and went to the show with a good friend of mine.. we'd both grown up on reruns of the show, and getting to see the original four play together was pretty magical.
I WAS THERE and it was heaven! I could not believe their energy for old guys over 40! TODAY they are in their late 60s and at this moment showing the same energy in south Florida! Monkees music will keep anyone young! I love them!
My first Monkees concert was Oct.12, 1986-- at 13 years old I didn't realize how significant that was...what a great day and age! Oh to live the 80's again!
At 14 years old, this was my first concert! I had nosebleed seats, but it was so cool that Mike came up on stage to sing these two songs. Thanks for sharing.
I was fortunate enough to see them in the summer of 1986 at Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson, NJ where Mike joined them as well during the show and it gave me chills I was just so happy to see them all together. I have been a Monkees fan since I was a little girl.
In August 1986, I was walking, and walking all the way, around 5-5:30 p.m., up that steep, steep hill, from Vermont Have. to the Greek theater, to buy a ticket for the Monkeys concert on Sept.5, 6, and 7. My birthday is Sept. 6, but they said at the ticket office 5 and 6 were sold out. I could only get one for the seventh ,in Section C, and the ticket cost $17.00, for ALL four rock groups: Herman's Hermits, Gary Pickett and the Union Gap, the Grass Roots, and of course, my Monkees...
Ah, I remember this night like it was yesterday. It was so spectacular being there. It was my first concert. This was the only time Michael Nesmith appeared live on stage with them during the 20th anniversary tour. Everyone was anticipating Michael Nesmith's arrival onstage because rumors were circulating all night about him being at the Greek that night. When Nez came out, everyone went nuts....can't believe it's been 21 years since I was at that show.
they were not allowed to play on any of their recordings, but they taught themselves and played live when they toured. Mike was very talented and wanted artist freedom. this is really great footage..
SShel: Yep, I was there. I'm one of the people screaming my lungs out. It was pure magic and one of the greatest nights of my life. Re-living those days of my youth was indescribable. The most magical part for me was when all four guys sat on stools and sang acoustic versions of songs like "When Love Comes Knockin' at Your Door". Just them together. Such a precious memory.
I used to listen to the Monkees when I got home from school. I enjoyed them. The best band also. The music is very understandable. They need to tour again how they are now. I miss them. Char
With the death of Papa Nez, THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR FILMING & POSTING THIS!!! How eery his last performance was where he and three brothers performed over 30 years earlier. God speed, thank you and rest in peace🙏
God, I would have done anything to have seen my fave band live, but unfortunately it never happened!! That's why I especially appreciate these great videos!!! How amazing to see all the guys together and sounding fantastic!!! RIP DAVY, MIKE AND PETER!!
i will never forgive you Mike for dropping out of that tour in 86! i have seen the reuinion tour over the years and have always wished to see you perform with them! I just saw them on the 2011 reuion and wished that just once you would make an appearance!
These Guys are priceless. Ah for the carefree days of my youth when life just wouldn't have been so complete without the music and the good clean sweet fun of Peter Mike Micky and Davy. I owe you Guys so much.
I saw them at the Wisconsin State Fair in 1986 minus Mike. When I found out he joined them for a short stint, I was upset. Mike was/is my favorite. None the less, I thoroughly enjoyed the show. My friend and I had to be the youngest people in the audience. I am and will always be a Monkee fan!
I just saw Davy Jones at the Meyer Theater in Green Bay. It was a great show. He's really funny and still sounds so good. Really took me back. He was my first crush.
That was actually one of the cutest things I've ever seen....the hug at the beginning, and they looked like they had so much fun during, and THE WALK!!! So cute!!! :D
Mike’s career was a busy one. His career in music video development as ”The grandfather” of MTV is well documented. He won the first video award for his film “Elephant Parts.” His Pacific Arts Company pioneered the genre for many years. He also had a hit band called “The First National Band. that scored with top songs “Joanne” and Silver Moon.”
Thank you....I didn't know footage of this existed.I only saw still photos of this.I love music since I was a little kid and the Monkees and the Beatles are the only groups that have given me total joy.Thanx again
I wish this was available on DVD. They had a Monkees convention in Chicago about a decade ago, but i couldn't afford to go. I would love to see them reunite one more time. Or at the very least, have a DVD of them reuniting.
Wow, This is Priceless. Thanks for uploading! The Monkees were great, their music reminds me of my carefree youth. In the middle of all the late 60's chaos, The Monkees brought some fun to the youth at the time. I loved them, but I had a crush on Davy. Saw them in concert in 1986 Revival. RIP Davy (I always thought it was Davey). Thanks for the memories!
Mike is a total Legend. Not only did he write the first hit song for Linda Ronstandt (Different Drum) but after his mom passed away, Whe left him 50 mill because she created White Out. He went on the create a video channel which eventually went on to become MTV. Ager may years, he was finally given his due. Reat in Peace Mike😊
I AM jealous that you were there! I went to that tour back in 1986 in MN, and I remember being bummed that Mike wasn't with them. I remember the big news this made, too. Cool!
Geez, I feel old - it had been about 18 years since those four played together before this concert, and now this 1986 show is 21 years in the past. Where does time go?
Mickey looks SOOOOOO happy to see Mike. I always thought they were like brothers and Mike was "BIG" brother....if they're not so close they sure put on really good on the show. Brothers & sisters fight all the time but family is family. I never thought they didn't like each other. Why do people keep sayin Davy is mad?
I was there on Sept. 7, 1986, and I couldn’t go on my 31st birthday the day before on Sept. 6, because it was sold out. At 8:P.M. it was the Herman’s Hermits first - we were told before that, Mike was going to appear; at 8:30, Gary Puckett and the Union Gap, at 9:00 was the Grass Roots, to 9:30, stage was unoccupied till about 9:40, THEN my precious Jewels, Davy, Peter, Micky - running jumping, and dancing at times, all over that stage, I wish there was a complete video of all that… THEN, all 3 LEFT the stage - that sold out audience was SO QUIET you could hear ten pins drop … all three then came back, across the stage, and then they kneeled down as the audience was starting to scream again - THEN MIKE CAME OUT and it sounded like a rocket exploded in the middle of the audience ( I was in C section, but way, way, behind were many others in D section) jumping up and down, all at once !!!😅😅😅 And my ticket was only $ 17.00!!! 😊
im sure that it was a great treat for the guys to have mike back on the stage aafter all that time, talk about a trip down memory road, these guys have tried everything together, good and bad times aand the happy and sad times, this looked like a great show and they seemed to enjoy them selveslike the breakup never happened, its a shame that davy would be with them for the tour starting in nov, he will be missed by all of us, great show great guys, love ya all.
This is footage shot for ET (Entertainment Tonight) in 1986. ET featured the Prefabs fairly regularly for a couple of years, and they used about 2 min for a feature early on, and the encore was seen over the credits at the end of the show.
They're all showmen and Mike has always been the most reserved of the bunch (this is FAR from "uncomfortable" for Mike Nesmith.) But there's no question, they're all digging it (and doing a great job).
@glencram OMG how awesome for you!!! :) I was at the Convention in L.A. that weekend but my concert tickets were for the night before. There was a rumor that Mike was gonna show up, but unfortunately it wasn't the night of MY scheduled concert!! I bet that night was absolute magic!! Wish I was there. I've watched this video like 100 times and never get sick of it! Wasn't that tour of 1986 just the BEST?! :)
@nosurndr You are very lucky to have been there in person for that historic reunion. However, I might be able to top you on loud concerts. I attended an outdoors Beatles concert in 1965. Not only did I never hear any of their music, but my ears had a constant ringing sound for two days straight afterwards.
