Do you remember in season 1 the episode with the Schizophrenic mother and the kid taking care of her? It was a lot like that episode, they made house enjoy interesting people such as that women. This boy was an interesting person AND an interesting puzzle to solve. I’m glad they kept that characteristic constant this far. It was an amazing episode, especially the end!

He was able to communicate better with the kid than his own parents

@@randomfullywonderful The patients wouldn’t assume the doctor is a drug addict. They can see that he has a limp and will most likely think that it’s just for pain management. Besides many people don’t even know what Vicodin is used for

So when House straight up told Adam he was going to die if he didn't tell him what he ate, the parents were shocked at his bluntness, but it made perfect sense for Adam.

@@michaelmcdoesntexist1459 Thats not entirely true. Wilson accused House seeing himself in that kid and was trying to save it. Wilson might romanticize House a bit too much, but we both know House hides under his rationalizations, which is basically in this case "parents dont seem stupid, kid is just a kid who is also autistic, no reason to hate", but that doesnt mean thats why he is doing it. If Wilson wasnt right at least half the time House wouldnt be friends with him. House wouldnt be friends with someone this long if he didnt respect their intelligence on some level.

I'm concerned with the premise of "that rich inner world" that OP is coveting to see: "to share some moments with me" that whole premise seems really not okay. The autism diagnosis skyrockets in western world while we have in reality far far less real pathologies. Its rare but you explain everything by it nowadays. Every child not fitting into its parents expactations is autistic nowadays and gets meds its brutal. If you cant find a doctor for that just tell them to diagnose autism spectrum disorder ( every child can be made to fit into that ) and voila you have your reason why you need support at home and that you are not responsible for your childrens missbehaviour and problems. Thats the real motivation..

He says that for their kid to basically have come back from the dead, their reaction is coming at a tepid 6,5 because they know they are going to have to raise him for the rest of his life. They are leaving when suddenly the kid comes back, stands in front of House, gives him his PSP and looks at him straight in the face for a couple of seconds. House is perplexed and looks at the kid in the eye. His parents Hug and start tearing up. The kid stops the eye contact and walks away with his parents. Having seen how protective he was of the PSP through the episode, the implication of an autistic kid of such degree to look him in the face and the kid giving him said PsP, House is stunned. And Wilson interjects saying "that's a 10"

Well, it really is a sentence. You raise your kid knowing that it will never experience life like a normal human.

@ Victor It's just him being kinda rude because these parents have to take care of this kid forever. He isn't high functioning, he will literally be with them until they die at least because he can't survive on his own. So it was a bittersweet kinda thing. He'll live, and be taken care of by his parents, forever. I feel bad for the parents, they're just trying their best. Autism is rough to deal with even for doctors

No wonder. I was getting mad at that kid too and I know he’s not real.

I hid under tables too, but at school and during therapy. I'm verbal too and always have been, but I'd often become temporarily nonverbal and make animal noises if I was overwhelmed.

I'm also verbal and on the high functioning end of the spectrum. I wouldn't hide under tables or anything. I would scream as loud and long and deep as I could when I was scared, up until I was 9. Then I fell out of a tree. from then on out I would freeze, lock up like a bird that's trying to go invisible. and around 8 years ago I managed to override my fear response because I got tired of the abuse at the hands of my own mother and when I get scared I become angry and assertive instead.

i have autism spectrum and-its like having 2 people in my brain-the cold and logical old man on the left having to pick up the slack of the inexperienced and underperforming little boy on the right. Here's how social interaction works for me-both sides have a screen showing what's happening and both can make decisions but neither can make a decision while the others is already in affect, the old man makes most of the decisions as the little boy doesn't know what to do most of the time- however if things get too emotional the little boy presses the only buttons he knows: cry and scream,this cuts the old man off from running interference and forces him to take a back seat,but if things develop behond the little boy's' control and crying and screaming doesn't work he shuts his side down for a random amount of time,leaving the old man alone and in control to do whatever he needs to do to fix the situation atm and get things back to normal *AGAIN*

Thing that makes it touching to me is that House continues to play that PSP throughout the next few seasons. So he definitely valued the gift.

As a parent of 3 (now grown) kids on the spectrum, I took it as a prompt to step up their game, or face the consequences. Dr. House's approach made perfect sense, and the parents could have already learned to communicate better with their kid.

it is unrealistic by the show's standards but totaly realistic by actual hospital standards. Maybe its different in U.S but where I'm from you would be lucky to spend 4 minutes with the doctor tops

He clearly said they only have little time using the scaner. Maybe Foreman is on the clock but other doctors need the same scaner for a bunch of other patients

Foreman was usually bad with empathising with patients.

i can only assume he only had a block of time to use the scanner, but, as a doctor, you would think Foreman wouldve knew better than to try and snatch away an autistic child's coping mechanism. it's been a long time, but i remembered i never really liked Foreman because he felt like the least patient and empathetic doctor House ever had on his team...which is ironic because House was the infamous doctor w/ no patience at all and all the sarcasm in the world within the hospital. Foreman also had the habit of allowing his personal prejudice cloud his diagnoses like when that homeless woman was brought in and Foreman just chalked up her behavior as "shes lying" and "trying to take advantage of the hospital for bed and free food" when in actuality she couldve died because she got inflicted w/ rabies iirc

they probably couldve, depends on how wild the kiddo was flailing. if he was flailing too much, to avoid injuring the patient and anyone else in the vicinity, doctors do not try and force sedation on them and may try to find another means of calming the patient down. yea they didnt that do here but ✨️drama, woo~ ✨️

Many parents are well meaning, but you don’t look to parents of autistic people as your main source of information. You look to autistic people. What you said was genuinely very hurtful. As well meaning as many parents are, looking at them as the authority on the subject as opposed to the people themselves is very condescending and demeaning. If you actually looked into what I said instead of just saying it’s fine because it’s what the parent of an autistic person said, you’d see that this is how the autistic community as a whole generally feels about such terminology. If I don’t say anything when I see a parent of an autistic child using terms that are harmful to the community, how else are people going to know? And if the parent really is all that well meaning, then they will want to know. If someone doesn’t, that’s what’s concerning. Making the mistake is one thing, but being mad when it’s corrected? That’s when it becomes actual ableism.

ADHD and autism diagnosis have skyrocketed in especially city areas without any statistical hint there are now hundreds of thousands more people with it. It's a political movement at first to medicate children instead parenting. Colombia is a great example. Medelin has more than triple the diagnosis than in countryside and strangely after school there are no found hidden patients. The last straw now is autism spectrum disability that can be diagnosed on every child if you want
