Exploring mark making with mono- printing, stencils and other techniques with oil paint on a primed wooden panel 12" X 16"
This is a work with oil paint that uses a ready made artists panel. I have used these before and they are a great alternative to working on a stretched canvas. Although the techniques that you see me use in this video are familiar to viewers of this channel I wanted to show how you can transfer these methods to different surfaces. You can also work on other types of wooden surfaces such as MDF, hardboard and plywood. Always seal and prime the panel before use. The panels are great to use when you want to create a heavily textured surface to work on and I will show this in a future video that will demonstrate how this can be achieved.

Watching you work is like listening to a Brian Eno album. Your work is inspiring, and I don’t often say that.

The gradual build up of complex texture and colour is fascinating. The subtle imposition of deliberate shapes makes the composition satisfying.

I had a microphone failure at 13:04 so I had to add some music for this short sequence. You can watch this demo with or without subtitles.

I have just updated the description with the information about the panel you see me using. You can also use plywood or hardboard. Always use a primer to prepare the surface.

Thank you for another great inspiration. Maybe for the next Video you can adjust the time for reading the explanation. Too long texts for that short time. Thank you in advance, Dan

Where can you get paulownia wood panels
@DanTirels

I got these fro a local art shop. Try other smooth surface panels such as plywood, MDF or hardboard. Always use a few coats of a good primer or white acrylic paint.

@@DanTirels I'm not an artist and haven't had art for 50 years. So I need to ask before I start doing this. When you say "primer" ... Is it the same primer I use when I primer my walls? Or it something special sold in an art store? Same for the white acrylic paint?
