In 79 the TA's had Pontiac and Olds engines. When they went to the 3rd generation in 82 is when they both shared GM engines. The blue kit had 77 front and rear covers. The white is a 79 with 4 separated headlights. Glad to see that you're resin printing is taking off.

My 1975 Firebird had the Pontiac 350 V8, and I sometimes had trouble with auto parts store clerks who'd try to sell me Chevy smallblock 350 parts - NOT the same! An article I found online says Pontiac used their own engines into the mid/late 70s, and switched to Chevy/"Corporate" V8 engines in 1982.

Both are definitely Revell originally. I'm ancient enough to remember them when I was a kid.

Yup, even the instructions in the Monogram Firebird are only labeled Revell. Not the typical Revell/Monogram.

Great video. A couple things I noticed that would kind of tell you the years of the cars. The front nose and taillight panel in the Firebird kit are for a '79 to '81 Firebird and the "Firebird" nose & taillight panels in the Camaro kit are from '77 & '78 Firebird. The dash is definitely a Firebird dash. Camaro dash is totally different. So your Firebird kit is supposedly a 79 to 81 car & the Camaro could be anywhere from 77 to 81 as they used the same nose and taillights for all those years of Camaro. Hope that helps.

These kits are very reminiscent of the Testors Firebird you built a couple of years ago. I had the Camaro version of that kit, which said Lindberg on the chassis, and that kit contained Firebird wheels and i think a couple other Firebird parts.

Instrument panels on Firebird and Camaro were different. I never saw one with the same instrument panel. Gauge clusters are different, at least they were through '77 or '78. Never actually sat in a '79. Since the modified Camaro kit uses the Firebird taillight panel, I'd say they used the Firebird instrument panel, too.

I believe the 78 Camaro is the first year with the body colored bumpers. I can't remember if the dashes were the same, but they may have been close. I had a 72 RS. I still miss that car.

Monogram bought themselves out from under Mattel in the mid 80s when I worked at Mattel. Shortly after that Monogram merged with Revell, whose headquarters I drove past on my way commuting to work at Mattel. A guy I had worked with at another Plastics company before was then working at Revell. So they started mixing and matching brand names between Revell and Monogram back then. These kits both had wide body styling and wheels inspired by IMSA and SCCA Trans Am race series. Yes Virginia, the Pontiac TransAm is named after the Trans Am race series that the car has never won. The T-tops and engines sticking through the hoods tell that they are intended to be street machines, NOT road race cars. The early 60s pie crust drag slicks are rayher odd. Fine and accurate representation of early to mid 60s 10.50 x 16 drag slicks. Being 16" tires they were always difficult to match to wheels that in 1/25 almost always 15" scale except for the Revell kit wheels they came with, like the Orange Crate, Stone Woods & Cook Willys, Tommy Ivo 4 engine Dragster, etc. The slicks MIGHT fit on 1/24 scale wheels. Models by Monogram and Revell in that era tended to not be highly detailed. So now I'm gonna have to buy an arDUN from you. Accent on the last syllable. It's an aftermarket Hemi head for Ford Flathead V8s. Name comes from its inventor...Zora Arkus Duntov. A Ford engine Engineer. Then in the late 1940s Ford wanted to send him to Ford of England. He didn't want to go, so he resigned. Self employed he designed the Ardun heads. The he went to work for Chrysler and designed the 1st gen Hemi for them. Then in the late 50s switched over to Chevy where he took on the Corvette and by the 70s Chevy guys called him "The Father of the Corvette.

The Camaro was the 1st kit I ever built back in 1992. I've got 2 unbuilt 1s in my stash ( will be building 1 this year at some stage hopefully ). None of mine have the extra pontiac parts in the box though, they were all factory sealed so in guessing not all runs got the extra parts?? New to the channel, looks like you've got some great videos up! Looking forward to checking them out

That Firebird is an old Revell mold from 1979. They're just issuing it as a Monogram for some odd reason. It was from a time when Revell was going through changes.

There is a CHP version of that Camaro, I had one in the late '70's, or 1980. Revell had two sets of kits back then, these two that shared 90 plus percent of parts and a 79 Mustang and Capri, that did the same. I had both the Mustang and Capri (still have the Capri), but the Mustang and Camaro are long gone. They really aren't even any good for parts. Revell kits of the time went together well, but weren't great kits.

My 1975 Firebird got hit in the side in a parking lot once, bending the rear axle, making it undriveable. The shop I took it to swapped in a Camaro rear axle assembly. I never felt the difference, and put another 100,000+ miles on it. 😊
