Every time the gear-lust starts (currently MicroFreak) I pull out the Monomachine and remember there's still so much more it can do! Been back to this video a few times, great work ! Would love to see more MNM explorations from you 👍

Great video, I love exploring on the monomachine. Here's a nice trick that I'd like to see you explore; turn on the arp for each track, set to SID. Press play twice to trig the arp and pause the sequencer. It's a nice way to get different track lengths and randomization.

thank you! that's a good trick! have read about that a few times while looking through the 'tips and tricks' Tarekith compiled for Monomachine - haven't dug into the arp at all though so far, I have been mostly focused on timbres and sound design when I spend time with MNM. Maybe at some point I will make a video on a few of the techniques from there that people tend to bring up - another one that gets mentioned a lot is using the arp on the BBOX machine

Some awesome sounds here! It took me a long time to realise that a lot of the Monomachine's power lies in exploiting things like gain staging, filters, etc in order to coax odd sounds out of it. This video is a great example of advanced techniques. I love what you did with the noise!

thanks a lot man! Machinedrum has a lot of depth that way also, but Monomachine might be almost twice as deep in terms of the gain staging/voice complexity - I wasn't quite expecting that when I got mine and it has been the main thing I've been focusing on so far while I learn about MNM

Excellent. I was hoping you would do more monomachine stuff. This is great. Thank you.

I'm very new to Monomachine but I was immediately surprised by the depth of gainstaging in the voice architecture, I've spent most of my time so far with the MNM doing pretty much what I'm doing in this video :D

Amazing demo. So much you can you can get out of this beast of a synth. Looking forward to more.
@maxmarco

thank you! it's crazy deep, basically modular-lite, but in a very different way than Machinedrum

definitely will be making more - it's a great synth for exploring lots of interesting sound design concepts - but as per our conversation on FB I have to balance the act of producing a video about it versus getting sucked into it for hours tweaking a sine wave :D :D :D

Thanks for another great tutorial. One of my biggest regrets in life is selling my monomachine 6 years ago. So I guess I’m doing alright, but still… wish I had the monomachine… and my space echo.

if I hadn't gotten the Monomachine I may have ended up with a Digitone, it sounds really good. I'm glad I held out and kept my eye on the used market though, the Mono fits my overall sensibilities a bit better I think

You are fortunate to get your MnM when you did. Have you seen the price in the last couple months? I owe you a debt of gratitude for inspiring me to leap into the Elektron world. OT followed MD, and just now ordered an A4 on impulse ;) ... Most fun and inspirational experience I’ve ever had with hardware-and far easier to learn than I led myself to believe. It’s too bad Elektron are drifting away from their roots of appealing to power users.

The last minute or so the timbres are similar to early Aphex/Polygon Window.

the way the filtered delay sends can interact with the reverb often tickles my brain in a weirdly nostalgic way - to my ears the reverb is fairly lo-fi but in a pleasant way that's frequently reminiscent of lots of older electronic music recordings
@Claidheambmor
@Claidheambmor Год назад
@@maxmarco Much prefer working with lo-fi reverbs than modern expansive ones. The basic ones like on the MD and MnM feel like instruments in their own right with the gate and colour settings - modern ones are much better for realism and massive decays but lack the 'cosiness' of the older designs.

Which do you prefer, this or the machinedrum? Thanks in advance for your input and videos!
@maxmarco
@maxmarco 5 лет назад
in features and function they are quite different and complementary, so mostly just depends on what I'd be trying to do. In terms of sound they are similar but somewhat different flavors, I find the MD a bit more 'raw'
