This story is about my bass teacher. He is 65 years old and plays the guitar, but ill tell you, he can teach anyone to play anything. So there's this young me in my early twenties, holding this cold active Yamaha bass. At the first lesson he asked me if he can hold it - so he threw a few looks at it plucked a blues tune, and although I was pretty satisfied with it, and he said its a nice bass (but don't use those two nobs they destroy the real sound), his eyes told me that it was not good, but this short glance was captured in my unconscious mind. Now, 3 years later, I've learned how to use my years a little better - and I hear his glance on this specific bass. It's astounding to me, how in just 30 seconds he already knew everything about the bass, and also my playing (by hearing it for a few second). This opened my eyes to scopes that were beyond my youthful reach. As I progress in my practice and learning (of life itself, not just music), I find this scope-discovery pattern manifest itself EVERYWHERE. Then I became aware that the further you climb the ladder of depth, the less people understand what you do. The real journey goes inward.
