He was in good shape and released with a happy ending! Lol, I can only imagine the story he tells when he gets back with his buddies!!! "Hey Frank, you'll never guess what I did to a guys kayak today!" 😂🤣😂🤣
I had a similar problem with my Penn Fierce 2 2500 series. Large reds, 30"+ would make long runs & after about a yr or so I noticed my rod tip dipping more on these runs and within a few months after that, I started noticing a jerking motion until one day I kept having my leader pop during runs. Looked into my drag system and noticed my drag discs were horribly frayed & mangled up. Long story short I learned that a lot of manufacturers use fiberous discs soaked in oil as drag systems. Found a guy on the internet that said replacing your drags with carbon fiber discs would almost permanently solve the problem. Went on amazon & bought a 6"x12" sheet at 1mm thickness. Cut out the appropriate sizes and tested out. Things worked great and even better when I used a heavy layer of Penn real grease. Started cutting & installing on all my reels & learned not all disc sizes are universal so had to buy another sheet at .5mm thickness. I have tested this on a 19$ amazon reel 3000 series SOUGAYILANG. I have landed several 30-37'' reds a few 37" snook and a 29" jack on that little reel. Hope this helps.
@@woodystemms3799 yep i started there. 15$ isn't that big of a deal when it comes to not loosing that big one but I have 8 spinning reels and to out fit all of them was not reasonable in my opinion at 15$ a reel. I found out that i could buy a 6"x12" sheet for 20$ off of amazon and was able to get 40 discs of varying sizes for all and still have space left on the sheet for @ 20 or 30 more. Thats when i found out different manufacturers use differnt thickness of cotton or paper discs & had to buy a sheet @ 1mm instead of the .5mm. All in all 30$ plus 3$ for marine grade reel lube and I'm happy. I did test a lube called CLENZOIL that workred great on my range guns. It also wored great and required only a drop per disc
Wow....Dude! I don't even have time to watch the video right now....going to have to watch it when I get home, but I can tell you, 45 seconds into that video and I am hooked. Can't wait to see that fish.
Well fed bunker eating machine lmao -few weeks in spring catch stripers this size + at night here on yak -all swimming distance to shore -these reds been watching u wrangle has perked my interest - thanks for all vids over years aside from enjoying -serve as an awesome teaching tool
That first red I think he ate the cork, rolled on the line which wrapped it up just above where the tail starts and the pressure just snapped the line. Doesn't happen very often but I've seen it happen a handful of times over my years fishing in FL. Kinda like a foul hook except he it wasn't hooked...
I was gonna comment last video about the big fall reds. NC gets them big but we get them big down here in SC too. The real big ones are 55 inches and up. I've caught 3 over 55 in the last 15 years. You should do a series trying to break 50inches
cool video, Elias. That savage hit reminded me of an inshore red I caught on a 6 inch mullet under a popping cork in shallow water. He chased the mullet to the surface and hit it so hard that the red and my cork went airborn. He must have jumped 2-3 feet. I pretty much stick to artificials now, but I love the way reds and trout hit live finger mullet.
I'm with ya. PowerPro failure is damn near unheard of. I've used it better part of 10 years now in the Keys fishing wrecks and the reef and put that line to the test. A++++ line
No you haven't! Videos or it never happened! Lol In all seriousness, its def something you need to be wary of if sharks are around, and they normally are lol.
Awesome Video, I was in that same area 3 weeks ago and the Drum bite was off but the Blues 3-4 lbs were hitting like crazy. That looked like my buddie Joey in that Hobie.
I love the Battle of Blue's and 20 lb Jacks small or large bring it on. I caught a Blacktip shark using a 1950's Ocean City reel that had a small handle it took me about a mile down the beach I thought my hands and shoulders were going to separate from my body he was about 120 lbs after that I got a more modern rod and reel.
Hey Elias, what do you think about 2020 hobie outback handling rough water? I know it’s damn stable but Is it a really wet ride? I think this OB is an older model but I want your opinion about the 2019-2020
Is that a new fish finder? I've been looking for a good one I got a 4in Lawrence just need a bigger one. Your video's are on point,I live in nc I fish for sheepshead around the jetties haven't had to much luck lately but its going to pick up in the cooler weather. That drum was so big he could have tipped the kayak over...
I do a lot of surf fishing here on the Treasure coast of Florida and recently started to wad fish the inlets and Indian river which have a lot of Red / Black Drum , Snook , Tarpon , etc I enjoy the battle of any fish on lite line since I don't eat fish , the question is I fish with a 2500 series reel with 10 lb mono and 20 lb test mono leader what do you think about this ? , the reason I ask is I have never caught a Red over 12 " , plenty of Jacks , Snook and Sharks on much stronger gear thanks .
Awesome video. That first top water strike was really exciting. Have to drive my son to Norfolk Va. for MSC training in about 10 days. Might take an extra day and try to catch some Redfish. I have a package of your swim shads that I will use.
The reel is not made for 40 Pound test line probably rated up to 20 that’s the problem with braided lines those real drag systems are not made for that don’t go and locking them down or you’re drag system is going to be shot after one long run
