I'm so proud of what MH has become. I feel like any of the 14 weapons have become fun and deep enough that I could play through the whole game with that weapon type alone. This is what over 15 years of incremental development and refinement has accumulated into and I know it'll still get even better in the future
100% agree. As a 14 year veteran hunter I usually rotate between 4 weapon types (Hammer, Gun Lance, Dual Blades, Great Sword) but so far I'm so enamoured with dual blades I don't think I'll ever switch.
What I need to know is, how do you make the SnS's guard point move work with the blows of other monsters besides small stuff like Great Baggi? Like Rathian/alos, for example? Would Guard & Guard Up skills affect the guard point?
Great video, learned a thing about Gunlance! A few other tips I've discovered: -You can perform the Gunlance's aerial burst by pressing ZR+A after the midair shelling -The Hammer's charge switch mentioned can also be used to immediately use max charge silkbind moves -You can perform a special aerial attack with Insect Glaive by pressing X during the silkbind vault -The Great Sword's plunging thrust can combo into a strong wide slash into a true charge slash -You can press A after the Sword and Shield's guard slash to skip the initial jumping slash of the perfect rush
An additional note for the Insect Glaive's airtime you showed off: if you hold A between wirebug dashes then tap B you can kill your momentum and then immediately accelerate back to full speed in any direction with the B input, after whihc you can continue to use Insect Glaive's airdash and airslash before using another wirebug.
@@WarudoWitch Just keeps you in the air longer and stops you from throwing yourself into an incoming attack. You can also reset your air combo of one dash, one attack by using the glaive's Y-button wirebug art. I forget the name of it.
little side note for the IG: u can cancel your last attack animation with your Kinsect. Either pressing ZR + X or ZR + A after u did a combo. It is way faster than rolling around (pressing B). It makes the IG so much smoother to play. Credits to Po Chi. :)
Im not SnS main, but That move Parry to Perfect rush is sooo goood..i think I'll main SnS... SnS FTW!!!!Happy hunting my fellow Hunters..the hunt is on..LET'S GO!!!
great guide! I'm a total noob to this game and was wondering if anyone can help me with how to properly aim while doing silkbind attacks like fanning vault for light bowgun for example. I find when do the ones that launch me into the air above the monster I dont know how to look down or aim the camera down to accurately see where i want to place the wyvernblast on the monster every time. Whenever i have done it successfully it always feels like a fluke. even worse in terms of aiming is when i try to do the greatsword silkbind where you launch into the air and do a falling blade stab into the monster. anyways if anyone has any tips on how i can aim my landings better for more accurate hits everytime i'd love to know!!
This was very cool to watch, just learning that the demo alone gives you the ability of all these tech for weopons is why I’m im gonna love the full game.
Excellent video again Alex, even better than I expected. I'm a GS main and haven't really deviated from it much, but will be picking up Gunlance properly after seeing this! Thanks again 👍🏾
I think it's just me... but the switch joycons are hard to use. Coming from pc and xbox. Hoping maybe the pro controller is a bit better. I was havin a heck of a time.
I main sns switch axe and recently started using lance before mhr but I wanted to try using dual blades and bow this game... guess I'm going to have to use them all then :I
I comment in a previous video about the dual blades feeling weak in this game compare to Generations ultimate, but you know what I'm going to try this combos, thank you for giving me hope to my first and favorite weapon.
Don't worry dude. In generations ultimate, a lot of weapons became op with the introduction of hunter styles, especially valor lol. So I guess it's not that weapons became weak, it's just that weapons were op in gu!
Enjoyed the video! Would really like a dps tutorial for each weapon so I can practice the best combos. The key is not too much information that it overwhelms the audience like some you tubers do.
for hunting horn if you use echo performance you can cast all your buffs twice, just input each note 1 time then press ZR then when the performance is done press ZR + X to perform magnificent trio, it’s super useful for horns with healing effects or buffs that don’t last very long
love the game but damn, when u play on all consoles, the switch is the more complicated one, with the japanese way of attrributing buttons even for us western ppl ... nintendo should add the options to map buttons the western way...
@@halosaft yeah but like on xenioblade chronicles i found out in the final game that u can switch the action of A and B.. to be more western audiences compatible.. so everything's cool and i love it ^^
@@AngeAlexiel I just think that it would still be confusing because that would just make B the action button instead of A, but people coming from Xbox would still be confused because A and B are the opposite on the actual controller. Don't think what the buttons does us the problem there, simply that the buttons are mirrored~
what armor set did you use for the duel blades combat tips and also for the heavy bowgun tips. (Sorry I haven't played yet the MHW and Rise. This is so sick 4:18, the light bowgun moveset too.)
Another tip on LS, from sheath pose if you do an IA slash its a 2nd shortcut into spirit combo and replaces the first attack in the combo, just like you can do with fade slash. This is especially useful because you can soaring kick, helm breaker, sheath pose, IA slash then go straight into spirit blade II hit and finish combo to hit red gauge in a very short amount of time.
Hammer. Its move set is quick enough for you to dodge, but meaty enough for you to feel like you are hitting hard, plus you will get "accidental" knockdowns on monsters by hitting their head as you learn how to dodge. No meters, or phials to worry about. It was what I start on in world, and I have no regrets. The game tells you sword, and shield but that weapon is actually complicated, and should not be used by beginners imo.
@@MattJBarnes I assume you didnt play MH World on ps4, or pc? Either way i would have still suggest hammer. Good luck, see you in game! Go for the head!
And if you feel like the hammer is too slow then I think Dual Blades are a good weapon for beginners too. But whatever weapon you choose, I would suggest looking up a weapon tutorial for said weapon, just to know exactly what moves and options you have while you play. Even I as a long time MonHun player always look up tutorial videos for weapons when a new game comes out~
hmm i thought about it a little more, and the above poster didn't have a bad suggestion. Dual blades are relatively straight forward, but you have to watch your stamina, and it will train you to dodge, and learn monster move sets. Also another suggestion is Lance. This will allow you to block most monster attacks letting you learn their moves in safety, preparing you if you wanna switch later.
Awesome video, but tbh a few classes were the same explanation of being able to attack after a rush up wirebug, however others were very useful and informative, (charge blade in particular, awesome! Gun Lance also, kicking myself for missing that shortcut to wyvernstake!) Will however say with long sword, you forgot to mention the other advantage of the plunging thrust, is that for every strike it makes, it also charges the spirit guage. The iai slash does not charge the guage, it just initiates the blue regen mode. Another LS shortcut often missed is the fade slash, it lets you counter a move (but I've never seen any major advantage using it as a true counter) however it also allows for swift repositioning and quickly builds spirit guage again when landing the follow up. It also acts as a shortcut into the later spirit reckoning combo. But yh, sorry to have been that guy, I did appreciate your vid tho! Thanks
This game is a prime example of Capcom at there most technical. A wise man once said... A good game should be easy to play, but hard to Master 🔥 MH is beyond anything out there within terms of longevity. The game is still the same as it humble beginnings, but refined towards modern tastes.
You're a Master!! I learned a lot of things!! Just one question!! What are those red guiding arrows that appear sometimes in the video? I never saw that before
So on the one hand, every weapon is getting a bunch of new things specific to Rise. One the other hand, Clutch Claw is absent so I'll have to get used to not flinch slamming monsters into walls, off cliffs, into other monsters and laughing maniacally as I seize the advantage.
Bruh wyvern riding and wirebug is way more fun u can not only still slam monsters into walls u can make them attack each other and control their actual attacks.
@@therealbalto24 well I play pc so I have to wait at least another year for Rise, clutch claw is all I have. But yeah, wire bug is looking pretty badass
Great video! I am a glaive main and as fun as flying around in this game looks the weapon just seems like it got nerfed into the ground. What am I missing? I feel like I am throwing toothpicks at the monsters in rise using it.
It's very probable that you're just used to your strong builds from the other games, demo weapons usually feel really weak and underwhelming. I was the same with SnS, I was so used to a Perfect Rush doing like 1700 damage with the Fatalis SnS from Iceborne that when I played the demo and a Perfect Rush only does about 150 damage I felt like the weapon had been ruined.
Really solid tips here for every single weapon... I was impressed with the thoroughness of this video and would really enjoy you taking deep dives into each weapon like this.
The hammer tip should mostly be used to get lv3 for maximum silkbind att damage, you can close the gap with the dash as well for impact crater. Also holding spinning bludgeon is not really a good idea since it actually takes longer to charge your hammer while holding the attack than normally charging it. Not to mention the monster is never gonne magically position himself were you're aiming.
Bow does not have healing as it's arc shot 100% of the time. Each bow has a different arc shot. There is healing/Affinity/Brace. Healing obviously heals(it's a regen not a straight heal) in an aoe affecting all allies including buddies. Affinity gives allies a affinity boost in an aoe increasing crit chance. Brace gives allies in an aoe a brace buff that stops them from getting knocked off their feet. You can check what arc shot each bow has in the equipment stats.
Also, for SnS: You can activate a roundslash by pressing X+A at any time during a combo. You can use this with a directional input to change direction around mid-combo, not unlike the spiral slash you might know from Iceborne. Outside of being able to turn, there's two things to note about this move: 1: If you are into this kind of playstyle you can use the roundslash for an infinite combo where you always round slash instead of performing one of the lengthier combo finishers. 2: However, there's a good reason as to why you might not want to do that which is: The roundslash gains a big damage increase if used after a full combo. Another bonus application of X+A that wasn't in World: If you are airborne from either the final strike of a perfect rush or from using the wirebug jump, you have a third option next to the mid-air slash (which is almost entirely useless) and the falling bash: Pressing X+A will instead perform a plunging thrust that hits several times on its way down and since it is performed with the sword, it still retains its elemental damage, possibly making it a better damage option than the falling bash if your build focuses on elemental damage rather than raw.
So about that SnS tip. You can trigger the guard with small bombs if they are in front of you. Also using the "A" button keeps you in space but you should use "X" For the perfect rush finisher otherwise "A" for reaper.
You can actually charge the silkbind attack with hammer before initiating the silkbind attack, just hold zr and move around while charging, then activate the silkbind while still holding zr, definitely the best way to line up big shots
I really wish the plumpeting attack of the greatsword scaled with height dropped/distance traveled It's kinda sad dropping from the top of the map to the bottom just to do a hit that deals less damage than if I had just done a unsheating draw
A faster option than the tip you gave for Gunlance is to charge a shell in the air to get the Wyrmstake shortcut. Charging shells in the air seem to be slightly faster than charging them on the ground. If you have a large opening then from the aerial slam doing fullburst > widesweep > wyrmstake is one of your strongest options.
