Something to clarify from the video, Medic's Touch actually increases healing the palico takes, not the healing it does. Not sure if it's a translation error or bugged or just intended to not be very good, but yeah. Not really worth taking imo.
for the gathering palico i bet it would be better to change your palicos attack style to focusing on large monsters so that it focuses on stealing their parts instead of the smaller monsters which sometimes can get in the way during hunts
Yeah specially if you are in high rank. They can get jewels and shiny parts! I have seen youtubers saying that the gems and shiny monster parts are really rare and with some having only 1% chance, I can see why but as far as I have seen none have realised, said or made a video about that. Gathering palicoes make getting rare mats quite easy and I have gotten as much of 5 wyvern gems, 2 bird wyvern gems and 3 beast gems by just doing quest like normal in order to complete every rank.
I have pretty bad OCD so i saved my starter cat as a preset and in the buddy search you can load the presets and make all the cats you can hire look the same and then just change the preferred support type. So i pretend it is the same cat that is just changing his tools between hunts with minor changes such as eye and clothes colors matching his type.
Weird lol the point of this system is to have an army of buddies that go on submarines and scouting missions and all that so having “one” do everything is more unrealistic. Trust me I know what you mean about the video game ocd though
@@cameronweaver1270 We're talking about a game where you can eat with your helmet on, you don't die instantly from getting hit with a fireball and you can fall from a cliff and not get hurt from the fall at all, and what you have a problem with is that people prefer to use the same pattern for every Palico and pretend it's the same one?
I chose a Gathering type at the beginning. I got Healing Bubble, Camoflage, and Shock trap. But this Palico is my own personal one so I'll probably never change him out.
You can just load your palico/palamutes presets during character creation and load them on the criteria page when scouting a buddy. Then After each quest check the hiring stuff and you can basically reroll your buddies to get your desired skills then just rename them just like your original buddies then remove the original.
my palico was an assist type, which i named after a dead family cat, and got go fight win, the bongo ability thing, and flash bombay, so i'd say that i got purr-ety lucky
I will like to point out that the palico system is older than that and class based palico system where available in mh2 freedom United. Haven't played mh1 so maybe even sooner
It's actually more akin to base Gen, since we have no option so far to change certain unwanted skills afaik So hiring buddies is like a gamble again, where you have to pray for them to have the skills and moves you want I hope they add that feature later on or with the ultimate (G/Master Rank Expansion)
Been looking for a guide for this for awhile, for some reason no one seemed to think this was important. Personally I have a nice Gathering one with shock trap, mega boomerang, and status up took me awhile to get.
I chose the gatherer Palico because, I’m no pro by any means, but I do have monster hunter experience, so I didn’t really need the other ones early on, and thought I could just get some extra materials instead. When I get to higher rank quests and stuff I’ll probably switch to a different Palico
Thanks Alex. As a newbie to The MH universe I feel like I need a degree in the lore and systems before I even start. Hell, I set off on my first quest last night, only to realise AFTER I failed that I was on a 4 player version. So your videos are definitely helping as I feel like I’m better prepared for tonight’s effort.
Hey im 1year late, but if you still wanna know, quest of the great camp are designed for 4 placer ands are harder than "basics" one, But you can totally do them solo In multiplayer, the health of the monster augment with the number of hunter, so soloing these quest clearly is possible
I started with the healing palico because in world it actually did a good job at healing me. It is awful at it's job. The status ailment cleanser always comes after I use an antidote or herbal medicine, and if I wait it never puts the thing down. The healing fruit is meh because it's only useful after the monster runs to top off my health. The bubble heals don't heal enough and I don't have time too wait around for them to get bigger if I need a heal. It has good tools for the most part, but because it is AI, it just doesn't function well. If there was another player with the tools they would be an amazing healer. That's why I switched to the bombardier palico. Much simpler as it's really just more DPS and you don't have to wait on the AI to make it do something helpful since there really is never a bad time to launch a bomb at a monster
One thing I noticed about felyne silkbind is that like with wyvern riding silkbind, flying wyverns like rathian and akonosom will try to break free from it at least once or twice, giving you an attack opening. It makes assist cats a bit more useful in those matchups, if those matter to you when selecting cats. Great video btw. Exactly the type of information I was looking for. Are you going to make a video on palamute gear as well? It would definitely be useful.
2:49 - You excel at delivering concise, helpful information - but I think people should appreciate your dry, not-a-big-deal type of jokes more. That one made me more than just smile. =)
This game may not look as good as world but god damn it's more in depth like I think coming across a hunter that's nearly the exact same as you is near impossible just because of how insane the customisation is
Thanks ! I had no idea Palico were this strong in this version :O Normaly I always go with a healer by simplicity but the assist would work great with my play style!
Agreed I'm world I always stuck with healer well for most but then changed to the horn so they could buff me that was my favorite. But I agree with the assist seems like would be my favorite also starting the game for first time right now
I like how you touched on something relatable to what weapons your using, but I'm gonna do more research into which pair better based on weapon type; I'm not new to the series just this game. Lol it's funny how serious this selection is!
Palamutes don't really need as long of a guide. They ONLY get attacks and the passive skills. So, ALL you're looking for is 2-4 specific passives instead of a combination of 2-3 specific moves AND the exact passives.
i just wish you could have seen their skills on making them at the beginning, or being able to change and mix your main palico's ability... i will probs never trade mine out as i love using my own custom ones over random ones, but just wish i knew what i was getting before hand... or had more choice in how it turned out in combat...
I was already used to MH so I got a Gatherer Palico from the start & worked on finding a good Assist one for later. If I wasn't, I would've went for a Healer to partner with while I got used to the controls Side note: kinda miss Prowler mode after seeing this system again
Gathering Palico is super awesome.. I use two and set them to Large Monsters first and they pilfer so much during quests. Endemic Life Barrage is - at least so far in low rank - super helpful and has never failed at afflicting status on the monster. I've had one of my palicos land the sleep endemic life and immediately put the monster to sleep. I would wake up the monster and then my other Palico would land the sleep endemic life and again put it to sleep. Super awesome. Also rare materials come easy with them.
Welp, I've been playing for a few days now and I gotta say WOW. It didn't really dawn on me initially what the potential was with this system for Palicos. I liked them in World just because, but now I can spend time actually caring about setting up different ones for different uses. It's pretty awesome.
Hey boomstick! You being the sage of gaming that you are, which Monster Hunter do you recommend to play first: World/Iceborne (PS4 Pro) or Rise? Both will be played on a LG Oled C9.
I personally enjoy the combat and streamlined nature of Rise. However, World is much more of a "big budget experience", so you might want to play that first to get the Monster Hunter hooks in you. (Like World did for millions of new players)
Very well explained, thank you! Can you do one on Palamutes? I currently don't really see anything to look for wirh Palamutes or what makes them good - not sure if missing something or not.
I looked into making this but found the Palamute tools to not change things up combat enough to warrant an entire video. I ended up putting my focus on my recent "tips" video.
Gathering Palico is actually OP, I built my first armor in Tetranodon by actually defeating the monster only once. And my Palico brought me everything I needed
Are there any skills that are useful for the gathering palico to bring more items? Or does the gathering palico gather more items than other cats on default? Because from the skill list, it seems that it doesn't gather anymore than the other cats.
@@maximus7109 the gathering palico has access to the pilfer move, which is what gives it a better rate of acquiring items. However they might’ve made it like previous games where the AI for the gathering palico actively seeks gathering points more frequently than the others.
Best palico for EARLY game is Plunder Palico + and healing abilities, since having that +1 or 2 monster part items when you didn't know you need it til it you go forge weapons/armors and just need 1 more monster part is VERY handy x)
I always thought it was "Prison" (purr-ison), since it is a trap it'd make sense to call it that. Either way cat puns are fun. Thanks for the informative video.
My starting one is a Trapper with Go, Fight, Win, Flash Bombay, and Power Drum. I named him after my fursona, because I'm an awesome monster hunter as a cat and human.
Straight away went into the no buddy option. As a BushidoLancer I need every hit of the monster coming my way. The bomber looked by far the best and I think when I play it again on PC next year I could go with two of those for sure. Those are some nutty skills.
@@Perfectionado fair enough. I'm used to play multiplayer with my brother so monster aggro always switches around. But I'm mostly able to land my wyvern fire (gunlance)
@@Perfectionado oh yes great fun. Between the wire bug and the blast dash I now feel like I have mobility. Adding that on top of amazing defense, the ability to sever and break, and a means of damaging monsters even win the most armored part is facing me, I feel like I have all of the tools. plus if I do it right I never have to sharpen my weapon because I can just sharpen with the wire block. It all feels so much better than when I started in freedom unite
I run a Fighter with Whirlwind Assault, Power Drum, Flash Bombay; KO King, Attack Up L and S, Critical Up, Weapons are Blunt with Paralyze element. I run Hunting Horn, so having all these buffs and easy ways to stun or paralyze make my buddies very disruptive DPS.
Rise is a great mix of world and previous entries, but for the Palico, i would prefer a mixture of both systems, with the dojo where u can change it's skills not just level up , and have the option like on World to have a trigger to ask the palico to unleash it's fury or support...
In your Action Bar there’s a pink icon that says “Use Felvine!” And that buffs up your palicos and makes them use their abilities more often. It just goes on cool down after you use it
I chose bombadier, not that I need the extra fire power but it is fun to see him running around with that gig barrel. Also makes my least fave fight, Basarios, much more tolerable. Boom cats fur-ever
Bombadier fam for life yo. Dont even want the other cats after starting with muh bomb bappy buddy. I love when he plants the detonation spot right in line with my attacks when Im slapping faces with my gs true charge combo.
I chose gatherer but I realize now that it does pretty much nothing when you have the argosy to give you all your potions and honey. I don’t wanna hurt my lil friends feelings by choosing a different buddy though. I named them Joni :D
Didn’t even know this was part of the mechanics while making my Palico. Thought it was like World where it was only looks I was customizing. Luckily, healer is what I wanted because that’s what I got. Didn’t even bother looking into Buddies until I hit HR3 😅. I assume you cant change your starter buddy? Not that I’d want to, but if someone messed up like me.
You just can preload your Palico and use him as a model, then rename your new Palico. Basically you have the same Palico but more powerful and with new skills.
Do the bombardier palico's skills interrupt you? iirc in MHGU moves like barrel bombay could interrupt you and that could get annoying (ended up not using bombardier, only for giggles sometimes)
Once I noticed the assist type silkbind attack actually wouldn't let flying wyverns get in the air again, and all these free wirebugs started popping up in my face, I ditched the default healer pal and ran off with my great discovery. Cats are even more useful than dogs I would say, and as a veteran hunter I definitely prefer them.
Gathering Palico Lowkey OP I have one with go fight win camouflage and shock purr-ison Camouflage helps when Tsuki is doing his dance and he’ll get ignored by the monster It also has status attack up and knock out king My ultimate baby 🥺♥️
I feel that the AI of the cats change depending on their type. My gathering type tries to gather a lot more resources than the other types for example.
Are we sure the skill Medic's Touch will improve the healing the palico does? Because I seem to remember Palamute also being able to have this skill and they can't heal. It's weird. I think it only applies to the pet itself.
I'm a new player and I haven't even started my game yet (I just got it last night) so... What would be the best Palico set for someone who knows absolutely nothing about Monster Hunter games
