Oh my god... I just realized something In the Risen state, the slam Valstrax does when hovering forms an explosion, the explosion forms the shape of a cross. Valstrax can do this with BOTH of his wings. Two wings, Two crosses... A DOUBLE CROSS

For those that are unfamiliar with Velkhana listen up! Caster type dragon like Kushala. Loves AoE attacks. Max your ice res and bring some fire weapons. Ice constructs: it will make barriers and rain ice on top of you. DO NOT LET THIS THING KEEP ITS DISTANCE FROM YOU! If you ever fought the Kirin you know how hard it'll be fighting it from a distance with a bowgun. Close Combat is your best option. Got it? Good. End of lesson. That'll be five million gold.

i love that they seem to be making a bigger focus on velkhana's tail, the way it uses it like a rapier is really damn cool

Well, even though no more Brute Wyverns will likely get introduced, I am pleased that they brought back Velkhana.

In my opinion, Valstraks on its own was already op enough, you think you're far away enough to be safe and he STILL hits you... Yet Capcom decided to give him area damage and lucent Nargacuga's spinn attack -but with longer range... I think they just created my ultimate moodkiller 😅

Capcom you absolute madmen you actually brought Velkhana to Rise. I didn't have a chance to fight this monster on Iceborne. Now I'm motivated to get up to MR 10 so I can finally fight my second favorite Elder Dragon.

Love that so many of yall complaining about velk coming back so soon like he didn't get overshadowed by the previous flagship in his own game lmao. A little extra ice coverage hurts no one, especially considering this game has a substantially more varied roster then iceborne anyways.

As someone who hasn't experienced World Iceborne (yet at least), I'm quite hyped for my first encounter with Velkhana but still surprised it's back so soon. It's been on my team for most of the postgame in Stories 2 aswell

Oh, I have a good feeling that this brilliant duo will put a great many hunters six feet deep, I included as well. I wonder if Velkhana's armour changed much if not at all from Iceborne, or it's weapons, and I cannot wait to see Risen Crimson Glow Valstrax's set as well! Now, is the Amatsu the stormlord next or are we getting a surprise seventh title update where they will be included?

The only thing I dislike about World & Rise armor skill system is that decorations were not craftable and that you had way too many skills at the end. Not only that. World and Rise sets had WAY too many skills in them, it was ridiculous, if they are willing to keep this system at least they need to balance it out better, increase scailing, decrease points per parts and please bring negative skills back, idk how they would work in this system but it added another level of complexity trying to work around those and I think bringing back negative skill is required at this point. You just get to be too OP with the new world system, and it was more fun to build a set, like in 4U. It's kinda ridiculous in world rolling around with 20+ skills and no negatives. Hunters now have simply too many damage-increasing armor skills to use, and are able to stack so insanely many on a single set it's more than a little nuts. Enough to make the hacked-to-hell sets in 4U blush. Monster HP bloats in response to all the DPS stacking, and as a result it only favors more DPS stacking to compensate. We know where this shit leads - eventually you go off the deep end like Frontier did with AoEs, instakills, and then the game literally can't "progress" further, then just burning out instead. We need to start toning this shit down to something more reasonable and constrained. I would suggest a good place to start - first make environmental effects actually matter again, and have the items that traditionally allowed you to ignore their effects outright (Hot & Cool Drinks for instance) only dull their effect and not negate it, to begin restoring value to the non-DPS skills. Furthermore, bring back 4U Wyporium feature that let you trade monster materials that don't exist in current game like Lagiacrus for feck sake, or Yama Tsukami. Some people obviously don’t, but I feel in MHW, the abundance of skills makes it less fun to build a set. In no means do I hate the new system, I have almost 1400 hours on a single save, but I just prefer the old world system. I also dislike crit boost, because with it, your entire set becomes focused on that 1 skill. I feel like negative points adds more variety to the game since you don’t see 1 or 2 sets running around. First played 4U about a year and a half ago, got to HR 200, did some CQs with funny clear conditions, and spent about 100 hours after that doing level 140 GQs. I understand how the endgame works for all games past 4U, and in Gen/GenU, it’s crit focused. You can’t go a hub without seeing people using crit focused builds unless you’re in early endgame, or in the story. In base World, you saw 4 piece drachen crit focused builds. In IB, you see 4 piece fatalis with every effective crit boosting skill they can get, then maybe peak performance or attack boost. But in 4U, really the only thing I remember seeing a lot was a HBG set for pierce ammo. Otherwise, there were at least 40 sets I saw, each varying from the other. The main skills I saw were Honed Blade, razor sharp, and attack up L. That alone is really easy to get, and let you go for literally any skills you wanted after that. Evade +3, HG earplugs, tremor resistance, etc. Yes, I get that there was still a meta, but it was much looser than in games released afterwards.

Not a fan of Velkhana in every way possible, yet, i look forward to see how it will fight now, since all of World's monsters have been splendidly handled and upgraded, in Rise but also here, in Sunbreak.
