Full Burst Combo --> reload --> Shell --> Stepping Slash --> Wyvern Stake Combo --> Wyvern Stake Blast (x2) Is fucking beast of a combo. You can only squeeze in one Wyvern Stake Blast, but it does a significant amount of damage when used against a downed Alpha Doshaguma. Another alternative is just triangle + circle twice into the new combo and concluding it with the Wyvern Stake Blast. The Monster Hunter team made sure we had a feast with the Gunlance this time around. I haven't been able to put the weapon down since I started the demo.
Lance mains are also happy about the blocking changes. I personally am very happy to see blocking become an actually good defensive option! Wilds is going to be the first game I actually try and play gunlance, and I'm looking forward to trying wide. From what I've heard about the weapon, that's a normal shelling focused style, and I would much rather use that as a go-to with the occasional full bursting. Helps my lance brain too because all them guard points I'm gonna be gettin.
I haven't gotten to play yet but it seems there's a lot more opportunities for animation cancelling into blocking than in any of the previous titles, but I'm just going by videos. This is a great change to lance, but I'm somewhat surprised that Gunlance got it as well, I was sort of expecting animation cancelling into guard being a sort of Lance gimmick but it seems other weapons are getting it too.
Hmmm, one lance main here and I while it's awesome to have a perfect guard into our regular block, overal the weapon felt more sluggish to me. I felt the pokes where slower (which comparing footage with World confirmed) and the ability to cancel the endlag on said pokes with Counter Stance (which is removed and replaced by a direct Power Guard) is gone or at least a lot longer. Sure you can use a regular guard, but that comes out way slower than counter stance used to do, it doesn't cancel the animation. Of course this is my opinion, but I was disappointed with how sluggish lance felt compared to the last two games. And I know Rise is a bit more arcade'ish and faster, but the lance seems to be even slower than World's lance now and no amount of charged or triplepoke finisher is going to make up for it for me. That being said, I am loving the Swaxe even more now. having two offset/counter attacks, especially the R2 + Triangle one in sword mode, is just chef's kiss. Edit: Ironically with the sped up guard on Gunlance, and the guard point on Quick Reload, this weapon is feeling better now than Lance did for me. x)
@@YYorleagreed that Lance feels a little off without counter stance. I hope they find a way to implement it before the full release. Another thing I’ve noticed is how weak the Lance hits feel, they’re not as meaty as they used to be in world and it makes it less satisfying to play.
Gunlance had an absolute glow up this time around. The number of combos and combo mixups is so much more fluid and fun. Think I'm still going to main switch axe, but GL has solidified itself as a top 3 for me in Wilds after this beta.
Amazing explanations. I've always liked the idea of gunlance but it was too immobile for me in past games. I've been thinking of taking CB+GL in Wilds and with how this was presented I will at least have a good grasp on the basic combos. Keep up the good work!
Gunlance has always been one of my worst weapons because as a Lance main my muscle memory constantly causes me to make mistakes, but I’ll have to give in another try for Wilds.
I think what might help you with making the consecutive backhops in a forward direction would be to change your stick control setting to style 2. This changes it so that the back input is relative to your character rather than the camera, so all you need to do is turn your character around, backhop normal, and then pull back on the stick and hit x again to do a long backhop. Hope this might help! (this also helps greatly with general mobility with directional hopping/attacks for weapons like lance and gunlance if your camera is a different angle from your character!
Ruri you literally inspired me to run Gunlance in wilds. Also my best friend is running Lance so that’s gonna be fun. I’ve been playing it in the beta but this will be insightful as hell.
The fact that gunlance now has such nice fluidity to it now compared to MH: World is exactly what I wanted. I always found myself just doing a overhead slam > Full burst --> repeat. It felt like there weren't much else to do in most scenarios past that as any other moves either had long animations without guardpoints or just didn't feel impactful enough. This showcase ticked all the boxes for me
Ruri...that was amazing! I've been trying some weapons and some of them still don't click on my brain with the new moves. Looking forward for more little guides like this one! (Specially hunting horn)
I love the new emphasis on the Shells! Wide Sweep followed by "RAAA!" into Wyrmstake into "RAAA!" into Wyrmstake followed by 2 Wyvernfires xD And yes shelling in World took you into Red after like 3 Fullbursts... Now however... Just keep on blasting! :D
I gotta be honest I tried gl in world, could not vibe with it at all but wilds looks amazing. Looks super fluid than it used to be. Definitely going to try it in the next few days.
something i heard from caos that i dont think u mention here.. shelling while empty puts u to a quick reload, and u can do the various follow ups after one
It’s gonna be my first time attempting to play a shield weapon in this series. It’s never worked well for me before but the simple fact that we can take two weapons now makes me want to try again! This way if I’m getting blown back I can swap to a weapon I’m familiar with to get myself some space
So is there anything stopping you from charged shelling and wyvernfire hard to reach/elevated targets like wings with focus mode? (Not sure on the charged shell range?)
I tried gunlance yesterday and I have to say, it went from no interest to possible main instantly lol. Now I have to decide between this, great sword, insect glaive(most fun for me so far), and lbg
I'm 99% sure I'm going to main gunlance with switch axe in the bag. I dont care to min/max with the hunting horn I just want to have fun. But these two weapons are pretty much my favorite so far.
12:22 Did you just do a quick reload from neutral? Or is it because there is already Wyrmstake charge so it became quick reload instead of full reload?
Ugh, thank God i can bring two weapons with me now. It takes a lot to pull me away from the horn, but having this in my literal pocket will be so good. Not to brag, but I tend to be so good with gl that i only put it down because things were too easy, now it seems like it will be way too fun to put down for very long.
Is there an option to toggle focus mode instead of holding it? Or better yet click once to enable, click again to disable and hold to only have it for the duration you hold the button?
Pro tip u dont always need ghille mantle for sneak attacks. So long as the monster is chill u can get one for free then put ghille mantle on for another sneak attack. Ive gotten 6 sneak atttacks on one rey dau😂😂😂
Damnit ruri what have you done to me...i thought i was set on 2 weapons n now you single handidly have put gunlance to the top of my list with your propagander 😅
Didn't know about the faster wyvern fire and the mount slam. They must recharge faster that way because it was taking forever to get back despite doing regular full burst constantly. I wonder if there are only certain moves you can power clash because I got like 3 perfect guards in a row and didn't get it once.
Getting used to focus mode is rough, cause you gotta hold the button down right? I wish there was a toggle instead, just hit it once to enter, hit it again to exit
Hmm... this isn't the character model I saw in ur livestream Not complaining Lmao noticed ur cat's called Gaijin Ok now that I know how the new moves work gaddamn Capcom cooked, can understand why u'ld want to go double GL
