I could be incorrect but I believe scholar has no effect on your chances of getting an investigation. It's purely there to speed up the accumulation on ecological research and the 'special investigations' that you have to accumulate for the ecology researcher like pink rathian. There IS however a canteen skill that helps called "Felyne Researcher".
Tempered Kirin is only a nightmare if you try to do it with randoms because it seems most people are stupid and think blindly attacking is more effective than taking your time. Seriously, just wait to attack until it isn't attacking, it isn't that hard. Sorry, you mentioning Tempered Kirin brought back memories of failing the hunt like 20 times then giving up and just doing it solo.
Agreed. This is my first MH title, and I was able to beat tempered kirin solo my first try without carting. Granted I played it super safe and took my damn sweet time ;) Plus Kirin probably just wanted me gone as i spent at least 6 hours before my first actual attempt collecting footprints and getting over 60 tempered elder investigations.
